To complete the camping experience I suppose... Or to cheer for your favorite college team :).

I don't get RVing.
Camping makes sense to me (even though I don't like it) ... but if you're going to RV you might as well rent a cabin or stay in a nice hotel (you seen what those things cost!?).
Anyway, I suspect if the fire was started close to the road that it was probably smokers. That or maybe a vehicle.
The official cause of the"Maxwell" fire in Lefthand Canyon is being listed as an unattended campfire. Send that to 9news and tell them to quit slandering shooters.
Those are discourteous RV'ers, most are quite polite. I, for one, do both. I take my camper when I want to have a great view in nature, want to still do things like campfires and the like. When I rough it, I rough it, as in a backpack only and make fires from scratch - i.e., no helpers - but when I comfort camp I comfort camp and get far better views then if I rent a cabin somewhere.
A few decades ago, a man was sitting at his desk thinking, "How can I invent a product that combines all the maintenance and expense of owning a house AND a vehicle at the same time, but that offers slightly less value than either product on it's own?"
And then the RV was born. ;)
Sadly the Lefthand area is out of control. My bet would be some partyers left a fire going. It's not just shooting and off-roading up there, even though they are the most visible. Sadly, the shooters don't help the situation.
