1. The first big bill to pass the Senate last week was SB-252, raising the renewable energy requirements for rural electric associations (REAs) from the current 10% standard to 25%. REAs say this will take billions of dollars to accomplish and will increase electric rates significantly. After filibustering the issue all day and all evening on Friday of the previous week, the Republicans spent most of Monday giving our final comments. The bill passed third and final reading with no Republican support (two Democrats also voted no, but that was not enough to stop the bill).

2. Other bills that also passed the Senate last week:

SB-001 - creates a permanent program for a refundable child tax-credit.
SB-111 - creates a mandatory reporting system for elder abuse.
SB-191 - gives pipeline companies the power of eminent domain over private property owners.
SB-200 - expands Medicaid in Colorado, spending over a billion dollars more per year.
SB-242 - $53,000,000 Medicaid expansion for dental benefits,
SB-260 - $5,500,000,000 school finance act, including expansion of preschool programs,
SB-222 - sets in place the mechanism for a statewide vaccine purchasing program,
HB-1006 - creates a new school breakfast program "after the bell" (during the academic school hours),
HB-1152 - creates a new tax on natural gas and electric vehicles, without a vote of the people, and
HB-1222 - expanding the Family Medical Leave Act to include civil unions in Colorado.

This shit is out of hand. The democrats are fucking us left and right,

SB191 giving eminent domain to private business, even foreign business's is a deal with the devil. My bet is that was part of the deal to vote for all those gun bills. This shows they are pro-business after kicking Magpul out. So what is to stop them from drilling anywhere now? You legally can't stop an oil company from stealing your property. What the hell?

The reasons to GTFO are stacking up.

Anybody have any confidence that a republican legislature would repeal this BS?

I don't know how you plan for the future, but I look ahead and speculate(after looking @ evidence) what is likely to happen then formulate my plans to accomplish my goals.


Reality is we are being driven further into debt and are having our freedoms taken.

That is the new status quo, if you support it fine, but I am looking to formulate plans to change it.

I have a really difficult time seeing how anyone, of either party, can wrap their head around any eminent domain issue, it just seems wrong on so many levels, regardless of who is doing the annexing of land.

Wondering what the (R) would have done had they been in the majority is moot. They aren't in the majority so speculating on what they might have done is wasted energy. The (R) aren't likely to be in the majority ever again, too many parasites vote for "free shit" and the (D) will always win that game.

You haven't been reading my posts because I've been writing what you wrote and I bolded for quite a while.

Eminent domain is just another part of the socialist puzzle. Property ownership is under attack. The government thinks your paycheck is theirs, why not your property as well. Remember, the government always knows best, just comply and everything will be OK. ;)

Its always been clear that the government can take property for public use. The Constitution merely requires that they pay compensation.

And that makes sense, if the government is going to build a road you can't have one property owner hold it up. The controversy is when government takes property on behalf of a private person or company with the excuse that that person or entity will make "better" use of it.

This statement was reference to the 2014 election. The jabber has been that we need to make sure R's get elected, if we do does anyone have confidence that they would repeal the recent legislation.

Given what I have seen from the current crop of (R) I'd say none of the legislation above or previous gun control legislation would have passed. The question remains, How do we beat Santa Claus with his bag of taxpayer funded gifts.

This evil was instituted with 'good intentions', but it was wrong in principle and naturally morphed from facilitating road and canal building to stealing land for strip mall developers. Eminent domain is but one of many flaws in the Constitution.

I have been thinking on this for a long time and I just don't see any other way to do it. There are other solutions but they require the government and citizens to completely revamp their thinking and that is definitely not going to happen.

That's true. But what bothers me about that is when they decide to go full-on commie. With the current crop of elected officials and electorate I'd say that's a more logical progression than moving to the right and correcting the issues in a conservative sense.

Despite how bad it is now, it CAN get worse. I'm glad I'm not 25 and have to live my entire life watching the downfall of my country.

And seriously...how do we change it within the system? Can it even be done? You can vote for those that share you ideals, you can encourage and educate others to do the same, you can send letters, you can complain, you can sue in court, you can even run for office. When that fails, and we're still sliding downward, what then?

There are reasons for eminent domain to be used but they are rare, very rare, and should be used with great exception. What is VERY concerning is giving this over to private companies, and foreign ones at that. It was never meant as part of capitalism.

I think in my life time something will change. At some point the gov will go too far for most people and the country will be headed down a different track for awhile. I also wish people would realize nothing good comes from a liberal controlled state gov, just a bankrupted state and in turn more taxes.

That is precisely the problem with 'compromising' your principles - it invariably leads to outrageous abuses. Principles are absolute or they are merely rough guidelines.

I was just cold-called about SB-252. The guy went on a rant about how rural people are only currently required to have 10% renewable and 'it's time we tell them to step that up'. 'Can I connect you to your local legislator's office so that you can tell them you support this legislation'?

I told him he was more than welcome to put me through to their office because I was against the legislation and I would love to tell them all about it.

He said 'okay, if you'll just hold a minute'

Where does the money come from to pay people to go down a list of suburban residents and cold call them so that they can get them to shit on their rural brothers? We had the entire 'gun lobby' in our corner and I didn't hear of a single call tactic like this used. Just where is the money coming from for this?
