"She was emptying the weapon and she thought that it was empty and pointed it away and down and pulled the trigger and it went off" Sounds like someone doesn't know how to clear a weapon! Why would you pull a trigger when emptying the weapon with the safety off and without checking the chamber? Hell, I'm still a relative novice, and I know those things!
Probably not the ideal state for this to matter in. Now, had a D politician in CA/IL/MA/CT/NJ/MD/NY let one fly in their office, it'd have been somewhat more hypocritical, but a D politician in KY is likely to the right of a R politician in any of the aforementioned states.
Wow....
But were it an R pol, anywhere, it would be a shitstorm from the D's...

Geez, that's right in the area where my family is from and I was down there over Christmas. What I find most disturbing is that the article says she obtained a concealed carry permit years ago, and yet apparently she does not know how to clear her weapon. [facepalm]
From other reports, she stated "I'm a gun owner. It happens" and "I guess I should stick to revolvers".
Doesn't a LCP have a magazine safety?
Glad nobody was injured. I think she needs to have that ccw permit revoked at the very least.
Are there no laws for negligent discharge of a firearm in that area? I can't even shoot a rabbit chewing on my Christmas lights with an air rifle without worrying the PD will show up.
I'm sure it was exactly this. As for yanking her permit or other repercussions, same thing should happen to her as would happen to any other person. Likely pay for damages and move on with life. Unless someone wanted to press charges that is, think back to the thread on a ND in Boulder that turned into a loss of gun rights.
[facepalm]
Fucking elitist's....Why Cant I take mine to work?
"State law allows Combs and other lawmakers to have weapons in their offices and to even bring them into the chamber if they wish, said House Speaker Greg Stumbo, D-Prestonsburg."
[fyou]...Em all!!
Guys, if you want tolerance you have to be tolerant. The party affiliation should not matter. She is Pro-Second amendment and regardless of party should be supported. It was an accident that she acknowledged and any of us could make in a senile moment. She got lucky nobody was hurt. If she tried to hide it, voted against guns while carrying, etc... Go for it. A vote for the Second Amendment rights is a vote for Second Amendment rights. It does not matter what party you are with. The laws we defeated last year were not because of an R vote it was because of a D vote or lack there of. I get tired of both sides being holy'er than thou and ready to drive the bus over people they agree with because of a lable. Niether side has all the answers.... From what I see, both sides combined don't even have half the answers!!!
What? Is anyone denying that you can empty a firearm by pulling the trigger, over, and over, and over [facepalm]
I agree, nothing good can come from castigating her for the mistake. Hopefully, one of the local gun clubs will offer her an opportunity to brush up on her skills.
One of the biggest threats to 2A is that the Dems have adopted gun control as a party platform. We have to reach Dems who value 2A and CCW to keep them from voting as a block against our interests.
Don't talk on the phone when handing a firearm, cell phones kill!

Hound, I'm sorry, the Democratic Party has so embedded gun control into their national and state level platforms that I don't believe in 2A-friendly Dems anymore. I will consider believing in them when I see them stand up to Pelosi, Feinstein, etc. and truly stand up for 2A rights when it matters (not on toss-away votes where they can safely "vote against" gun control to protect their seats).
As far as castigation goes, I thought we were castigating her regardless of politicial affiliation simply because the old "negligent discharge while checking his/her weapon" excuse is so obviously bogus for anyone practicing good gun safety. The gun doesn't fire spontaneously when there's no round in the chamber. A round in the chamber doesn't go off by itself if the action is open and your finger is off the trigger. Saying, "it happens," is just an excuse and further fodder for those who would squelch the 2A.
Ever hear of "give an inch they take a mile?" or pro-herownass.... jury's still out. Provided we were in a drunken stupor perhaps and decided that PULLING THE F&#*$@^ trigger was the BEST way to insure the weapon was CLEAR perhaps, yeah sound reasoning for a 'senile' moment I guess. No sh!t *cough* believe it when I see it *cough* *cough* not affiliated *cough*(Actually agree with this part.)
Someone should tell her she needs to hold the barrel in her mouth so she can have two free hands to clear her gun.
^^^ This, since when do we give people a pass on safety just because they are a nice guy or because they are "like us"???? If anyone of the members here were to pull this same stupid move, everyone else here would flame their actions, and most likely, the one that would be leading the flaming would be the person who did it.
The most irritating thing from the whole story to me is her BS excuses and attitude toward what she did. It screams of the elitist BS our "public servants" are known for, and I'll bet money it's only a matter of time before her, or one of her colleagues uses it as an example of "see even our own highly educated smart people can't be counted on to handle guns safely. How can we possibly trust the unwashed masses with them? "
"It happens"...if you're an irresponsible idiot.
That being said, her political affiliation should neither be a pass for this type of idiocy, nor single her out for exceptional criticism.
