I agree, nothing good can come from castigating her for the mistake. Hopefully, one of the local gun clubs will offer her an opportunity to brush up on her skills.

One of the biggest threats to 2A is that the Dems have adopted gun control as a party platform. We have to reach Dems who value 2A and CCW to keep them from voting as a block against our interests.

Hound, I'm sorry, the Democratic Party has so embedded gun control into their national and state level platforms that I don't believe in 2A-friendly Dems anymore. I will consider believing in them when I see them stand up to Pelosi, Feinstein, etc. and truly stand up for 2A rights when it matters (not on toss-away votes where they can safely "vote against" gun control to protect their seats).

As far as castigation goes, I thought we were castigating her regardless of politicial affiliation simply because the old "negligent discharge while checking his/her weapon" excuse is so obviously bogus for anyone practicing good gun safety. The gun doesn't fire spontaneously when there's no round in the chamber. A round in the chamber doesn't go off by itself if the action is open and your finger is off the trigger. Saying, "it happens," is just an excuse and further fodder for those who would squelch the 2A.

Provided we were in a drunken stupor perhaps and decided that PULLING THE F&#*$@^ trigger was the BEST way to insure the weapon was CLEAR perhaps, yeah sound reasoning for a 'senile' moment I guess.

It was not an accident but she was negligent. If you cannot properly handle the firearm you have, maybe you shouldn't carry that firearm until you can properly handle it.

Someone should tell her she needs to hold the barrel in her mouth so she can have two free hands to clear her gun.

^^^ This, since when do we give people a pass on safety just because they are a nice guy or because they are "like us"???? If anyone of the members here were to pull this same stupid move, everyone else here would flame their actions, and most likely, the one that would be leading the flaming would be the person who did it.

The most irritating thing from the whole story to me is her BS excuses and attitude toward what she did. It screams of the elitist BS our "public servants" are known for, and I'll bet money it's only a matter of time before her, or one of her colleagues uses it as an example of "see even our own highly educated smart people can't be counted on to handle guns safely. How can we possibly trust the unwashed masses with them? "

"It happens"...if you're an irresponsible idiot.

That being said, her political affiliation should neither be a pass for this type of idiocy, nor single her out for exceptional criticism.
