Not police bashing, but this dog was doing what dogs do. http://www.guns.com/2014/02/11/dashc...ice-dog-video/
On top of that the officer was an ahole on how he handled the aftermath. Dont belive this officer is a professional at all.

Tough call on that one.
Maybe unprofessional, but definitely shook up. Sounded like that was a tough call for him and it took a couple of minutes to get his shit together. If I hear my dog growling, barking, and going after someone on my lawn, you can bet I'm not going to ignore it.
Guy was a total pos the homeowner handled that WAY better then I would have if someone (cop or not) came onto my property and killed my dog
As someone who as trained (Schutzhund, etc.) dogs and had large dogs (GSD, Rotties, Dobies, Mastiffs, etc). for years - there was NOTHING aggressive about that dogs posture. Zero.
Even worse it was a poor shot.
The cop needs a swift kick in the ass.
Many people are afraid of dogs or hold the opinion they are "just an animal" but with a cell phone and a radio there were other options. If the call was "animals on the loose" where was Animal Control? The dogs should not have been loose in an unconfined area to start with but kicking at the dog then shooting the dog wouldn't be my first choice versus getting back in your car and calling Animal Control or even the owner. Being "loose" and "presenting an immediate threat" are not necessarily the same thing, most notably the former allowing the opportunity for an alternate resolution. The most uncomfortable thing in the video was the fact it wasn't a clean shot and the dog was obviously suffering, hell you already shot it why not finish it as opposed to letting it suffer?
I don't have audio on my computer so I didn't hear the aftermath though I do know many on here advocate any form of retreat, remove yourself, call for assistance, etc. in regards to CHL reserving deadly force as a last and final resort, are those options unavailable to the Officer? Not cop-bashing just think maybe there were other choices left before resorting to killing the dog.
edit: for the rest of us that love dogs - link
I couldn't watch after the initial kick by the officer at the black/brown dog. What service is the dog doing for the owner if its outside barking at something. I have a service dog. She stays inside and ready to fill her purpose. I absolutely hate hate HATE animal cruelty.
What would I have done? Used the fancy loudspeaker on the car. Maybe the sirens. People will come out if there are sirens, possibly someone with whom the dogs are familiar.
There were options besides just being on some guy's lawn shooting at their dogs.
Since the owner was so concerned that his 9-yr-old could see, maybe send said child out to restrain the dogs.
Plenty of options for both sides.
I knew it was going to piss me off but I clicked the link anyway. Maybe someday I'll learn.
It looked to me like the adage "if the only tool you know how to use is a hammer, everything will look like a nail" might apply to that guy.
Yeah dog was way way way aggressive......... Kicking the dog won't help the dogs crazy "aggression" either..stupid cop.
There was plenty of stupid on this one. The owner was absolutely an idiot for not coming out to restrain his dog; the dog shouldn't have been out there anyway. The officer should have called animal control instead of escalating the situation by getting out of his cruiser. Poor dog was left to bleed out; that sucked! ...that was truly an asshole thing to do. They should have done the paperwork after attending to the poor animal.
There are a few dogs who come off their property where I live. I've had a few greet me in a threatening way, but they usually go home with a stern response from me. I haven't had to pull on one yet.
The officer could have pepper sprayed the dog.
I don't think I'm going to watch the video after seeing the responses here; I can't really stomach images like that. I will say I agree with the sentiment there are plenty of alternative options that should seem fairly obvious to professionals (e.g. cops) who may encounter such situations.
I got a call last fall from Aurora PD that my neighbors reported seeing two people leaving my house carrying bags. The thieves opened the gate, waited for my dogs to run out into the yard, and then went into the house to rob me, closing the gate behind them. They were long gone when the cop showed up, but my dog (a breed famous for being violent and aggressive) was standing on the porch growling and snarling at the cop. The cop sat in his car and contacted animal control and later told me he wasn't going to try to go in the house to see if anyone was still in there. When animal control showed up, they and the cop chased my dog back in the house... no shots fired, no harm done. Despite how often we hear these stories, I'm glad there are still LEO out there with a good head on their shoulders.
Dogs protecting their property are doing their job; it's one of the primary reasons I have dogs to begin with. It's just a disconnect in logic to intrude on the dog's territory and then shoot him for challenging you.
This police officer is at best stupid or at worst an ass. He totally escalated the situation, and there is no reason to discharge a firearm unless somebody is being threatened, which would not have been the case if he didn't get out of his cruiser and start yelling and kicking at the dog. If he called animal control, this situation would have ended with a citation and no shots fired.
Sorry about the theft. Glad the dog part worked out.
Violence towards people is (for the most part) easier for me to stomach than violence towards dogs.
But then I like most dogs more than I like most people.
+1 Pepper Spray
Im gonna get labeled a cop basher now. THIS is the reason people don't like cops. What a fucking asshole, this guy deserves to be beaten with a rubber hose, and then left to die just like he did the dog. I belive 99.9% of cops are good dudes, but fucksticks like this fuck it up for the rest of you. Knowing me and my temper, this fuckstick would have been greeted at the door by far more firepower than that pos glock gave him.
I watched the video.. the cop has ZERO idea how to handle a dog. Not to mention he states 'the last time I was bitten by a dog, I had to get stitches. Your dog could be friendly but I'm not going to be bitten again'.
He has a fear of dogs and reacted VERY poorly to the situation. A lot of other things could have been done..
Get your ass back in the car and call animal control. More than one opportunity to get away and get in the car. Hopefully he loses his job and has to go run a flash light at the mall.
That was just chickenshit.
I shouldn't have watched it but I did and it always gives me that pit feeling in my stomach. My chocolate lab acts the exact same way. She barks AND wags her tail when she is excited especially meeting new people. She runs up to them and barks and wags her tail while she moves away. We have had her since a pup and that is her personality.
That video made me sick. Like others, I can't stand animal cruelty. I am no cop basher but he had many more options than using his sidearm. I first thought pepper spray? Why didn't he use that? Then thought, why not just go back to your car and ask for animal control. He didn't even try to greet the dogs just tried to muscle them out of the way. If dogs are truly that dangerous why don't animal control cops all have sidearms? Just plain stupid.
Exactly! He was there for a loose dog call, not to capture an escaped murderer. If the dog barks at him and he's scared, then get back in the car. Call for help from Animal Control, or just get on the damn PA and holler for the resident to come out. Getting to the door to get to the owner of a loose dog is so goddamn important that it justifies shooting the fucking dog? Bullshit.
Let's see dog had aggressive posture. Other cop said the shot was OK and Clubb was cited for allowing animals to run at large.
So they guy broke the law.
All you saying it was a bad shot are just cop haters (tm) !!!
If I called the cops for every loose dog I've seen. I'D probably get shot.
Uncalled for.
Yes, the owner is pretty dumb for leaving his dog out there and not responding to the dog's barking. However, I can't believe this officer followed procedure.
What are the police procedures for responding to an animal at large? Who is trained to contain and capture the animal? Is the officer trained or not trained? What are the procedures for the use of force? ...under what circumstances? Either the officer didn't follow procedures or the department doesn't have them. Either way, I think the owner has a case either against the officer or the department or both.
By the way; I am generally an advocate for LEOs, but this guy didn't know what he was doing and allowed his emotions to guid his actions. The shooting of this animal would have only been justified if another person was threatened by it.
If this was a "civilian" dude would be in jail, but...once again....the biggest gang in the country gets away with yet MORE bullshit.
Not so sure about that. yes there was proably something else the cop could have done, the dog wasn't just barking it was growling and snarling, probably more just for show, this looks like the kind of dog that even if it did bite you would have been just as scared as you it would have been a nip and then out, not a full on dog attack.
The cop handled it poorly for sure, but i have known others that have shot a dog at large and there is no jail time involved.
In the end it is the dog owners fault, the dog should not be out roaming the neighborhood, someone called the cops on this dog for a reason, obviously his neighbors don't love his dogs and don't want him running loose.
there are leash laws for a reason, it keep other pople safe from your dog and your dog safe from other people.
Just like any other group of people there are good and bad, the people that think everyone else must love their dog because they love their dog are just kidding themselves. Their are a lot of people who would muck prefer not to interact with your dog for any reason. My son is one of them. He was attacked twice by dogs when he was very little, thankfully it was only minor bites. I have to say though even though he is not "afraid" of every dog he sees, he has very little desire to interact with any dog no matter how friendly.
