DENVER (CBS4) – The Sports Authority bankruptcy filing has raised questions about possibly renaming the Broncos’ Mile High stadium, and a marijuana company is one such interested buyer.
Native Roots is one of Colorado’s largest dispensaries, expanding from one to 14 stores over the last year. The marijuana dispensary chain said they are fully ready to make a multi-million dollar commitment if the contract with Sports Authority ever ends.
They also acknowledged the poor timing of announcing the news on April Fools’ Day, but insisted that they are serious about the proposal.
“It’s not a joke, we’re very serious,” said founding partner Rhett Jordan.
The company released a rendering of possible new branding for the stadium, which they say is just preliminary. They’d be willing to forgo the marijuana leaf in favor of its more well-known symbol, a simple tree with roots.
Native roots says the affordability of the contract isn’t a problem, whatever it may cost. For Sports Authority, it’s at $6 million a year.
“We’ve always been huge fans of the Broncos, we felt like this was a great opportunity to bring two brilliant brands together, said Jordan.
The company says it has begun the process of acquiring the naming rights. However, since the contract still belongs to Sports Authority, Native Roots says for now that process has consisted of internal meetings.
If everything were to go as planned and the naming rights approved, its founder says the stadium will be called Native Roots Field at Mile High.
“Native Roots was born and raised in Colorado and we are the natural candidate for this. I don’t see cannabis going anywhere but up right now so we are prepared for that,” said Jordan.
CBS4 reached out to the Broncos for comment and all they had to say was, “Sports Authority has been a great partner for many years and we certainly hope to keep it that way.”

It’s likely they thought it was a prank.

When the NFL wants to step up and pay for a stadium instead of burdening the local tax payers, then they can have a say.

I can't say I'm surprised by this, and figure it's just a matter of time... Once legalized and legitimized country-wide, these companies are going to be marketing themselves everywhere... The irony of "Mile High" is impossible to ignore. It will be up to the Broncos organization to make the decision to take their money or not...

After the NFL's recent threat against Georgia over not supporting the ghey, I doubt they'll put up a fuss over this.

So people are ok with all the ads from Bud, Miller, Coors, Corona, Jim Beam, Jack Daniels, Smirnoff and more alcohol manufacturers, but no weed allowed? Because, no one ever ruined their life or other peoples' lives by drinking alcohol...

What's the ROI on these test?

Estimate cut to the welfare roles by 80 - 90%. Plenty of return to cover the tests.

Where do you get your data, as the results to date in places that have tried it don't seem to meet your claims.?

Just threw it out there. Not inclined to research the subject since it will never likely happen, and if it did, as you say, it will be so mismanaged and overmanaged that the ROI will likely be negative.
The idea of people receiving tax payers' money while purchasing drugs irritates me, but I'm not going to get caught up in the already lost battle of trying to fix it.

I'd like to see voting rights contingent on passing the same civics test given to naturalized citizens but that'll never happen under this Supreme Court. The societal rules laid out in either The Moon is a Harsh Mistress or Starship Troopers (the book, not the POS movie) also have my approval (and therefore the approbriation of Democrats and other left-wingers).
