We have been with USAA for over 20 years. We called today as we had heard that other insurance companies were giving discounts. They took off 20% for the next two months and deferred our car payment for two months
without penalty or interest. Wow I am impressed.
If you are a member I suggest calling and taking advantage of this.

And of course we just switched to State Farm because they were $100 a year cheaper. lol
We switched last year and saved almost $200 a year on the house, plus $100 per month on the cars (their renewal went up $70 per month for no other reason than "Colorado"). Their service was great, but it just got too expensive.Quote:

We got a similar message from Allstate.
Progressive is doing the 20% give back for April and May. They may extend it into the months after that if the pandemic continues.
The deferred 2 months of car payments isn't automatic... so yes, you should call if you have an auto loan with USAA or call your lender regardless, for that matter. I bet they're willing to work with you somehow.
I got a non-renewal notice from Auto Owners on my commercial auto policy, but only because the agency that writes my policy lost their business.

Used to be with State Farm but my wife does not have a great driving record and in her last accident seven years ago State Farm called to tell me they were dropping her. They wanted to keep me but at my new rate of $250 a month and the best we could find was about $300-$350 a month for my wife everywhere else. Another veteran told me to check USAA and they got us fully covered at the time for around $275 a month. Yes it was a steep increase from what I was paying, but a lot better than what anyone else would do. I've been happy with them. Wife's car totaled from hail in 2018. They came to the house to appraise the car and then scheduled a pickup, I didn't have to do anything. My roof was destroyed from hail in 2019 and the process to get it replaced was extremely easy. Got the check directly to me and I paid the bills with it rather than having it sent to all the third parties involved. That really upset the mortgage company.Quote:

There must be something else going on with BMB's case. What he relates is just a polar opposite to my 30+ year experience (and my father's 50+ year experience) with them. I'm not saying BMB is wrong or lying, just that there must be some information about the case or aspect to it that we're missing. The airlines can't charge you twice for the same ticket but they CAN charge more than once for the same TRIP if you make last minute changes or if you purchase a replacement ticket for one that's voided (e.g., for not showing up for a leg by check-in time). If the flight was canceled due to the Wuhan Coronavirus, both DOT and the EU are requiring the airlines to refund canceled tickets.Quote:

I've had USAA quote my auto insurance several times. Always WAY higher than GEICO...even when we had USAA homeowners. Had homeowner's with them for one year. Terrible, terrible experience. I have had two auto loans with them and had great experiences both times. After the divorce my ex re-fi'd our/her house with them...she wasn't happy at all due to non-existent communications from them as to the status of the loan process.
So for us/me, it's been a mixed a bag.
My best insurance experience by far has been with Country Financial on both home and auto. Unfortunately they can't help me where I am now. GEICO has been a close second...but I hear so many people say they've had bad luck with them, too.
I had progressive for my motorcycle, and they were ok, but they have/had a deal through USAA. I have taken quotes from Geico and State Farm in the past, but they could not offer as good of coverage for the money. Perhaps it being quite a few years since that has happened,things have truly changed.Quote:

Before USAA had an official relationship with Progressive, they were willing to give me a quote for motorcycle insurance but the rep I spoke with said she would recommend I go with a company that specialized in offering motorcycle insurance like Progressive. When I asked her why they even offered it then, she said some members really wanted the convenience of dealing with a single insurance company or were overseas and obtaining insurance was difficult so it was offered solely as a convenience. Some years later, USAA solidified an official relationship with Progressive and reduces rates so I moved my policy from a Denver agent to my USAA account.Quote:

I bought a round trip ticket from Denver to London for $2K. On the return leg, British Airways said I had cancelled my flight. I did not cancel the flight.
They wanted another $2K to fly me back to Denver. So I paid it thinking I could sort it out with USAA credit card when I got home. USAA has only credited half my original fare, AND told me tough shit. If I knew they were all going to rip me off, I would have taken a US Air Force KC-135 back to the USA. I would have probably had the plane to myself. Most of the KC-135 crews could be found in the enlisted club at the base I was staying. The KC-135 flights are way faster than the commercial flights and since you leave from a military base, there is no TSA! No groping!
MORALE OF THE STORY: Don't use BA or USAA ever again. They will NOT help during a crisis of a pandemic. The US Air Force was great. The facilities were great. The US Air Force even treated me at their hospital and pharmacy over seas.
I don't mean to offend, but... you had round trip tickets and you successfully used half of the round trip tickets. USAA refunded the half that wasn't used.
The airline f'ed you over and charged you for a one-way flight, and you paid with USAA thinking you could get a refund of that one-way ticket after having flown back. USAA said no, you flew on that ticket, we can't charge-it-back to the airline.
You're dispute is with British Airways, not USAA, which appropriately refunded the merchandise to which you paid for, but did not receive. British Airways can prove it was in fact, you that bought the ticket, and you did in fact, fly back home on the ticket. A charge-back would not be successful and USAA would be on the hook for $2,000 that you voluntarily paid.
If you had paid for travel insurance or something that covered itinerary changes on the part of USAA, or if your terms specifically covered that, then I would agree with you.
That's not to say it doesn't suck to be f'ed by British Airways, it's just to say in no way is any of that USAA's fault and they did appropriately refund what they could, and it's not implied to trust that your card company is going to refund a ticket you paid for any used. [sorry]
They airline figured a way to get more money by by deceit and the credit card company thinks it is just fine to use trickery in business. That is why you use a credit card, for insurance you are not going to be defrauded. The case still isn't decided and final, because the airline has to answer to US DOT. At first USAA decided in my favor, then reversed and only refunded half. IF YOU CAN"T SEE WHAT THE AIRLINE DID, YOU ARE BLIND!
The redeeming factor in all this is, I can fly to the UK really cheap now. British Airways had to lay off 36,000 employees and ground 90% of their fleet. This loss is basically my COVID-19 stimulus check. The loss to USAA is about $30,000 in the next ten years as I am dumping them and their "products". I'll just find another insurer.
What is funny, is the sudden appearance of a BA website to complain. They didn't have that when the dispute started.
I have a feeling I will probably get a refund, but what a hassle. You call the airline and they hang up on you. It is obvious the person you are talking to is a call center in India. Now if you call they direct you to their new online "complaint" form. So does the US DOT.

State Farm has said they are doing a 25% credit on auto policies for March and April. I guess that's something.
My biz policy is due shortly and may let that go/cancel it. Auto do at the end of the month and wondering about that one too.
I've been driving, maybe, 3 miles a week and can do that with one vehicle.
Be careful, Skip, about letting car policy lapse. There may be penalties (in the form of higher premiums) to pick it up again after a lapse in coverage. Every company I've ever got a quote from asks me if I have a current policy or if there's been any lapse in coverage.
On the other hand, I'm no expert and may have no clue what I'm talking about. Maybe Irving can chime in on that or one of the other guys who does insurance here.
Yeah don't let your auto policy lapse. You can call your agent and set-up something like just comp while it's sitting in the garage.
