California has banned sales of new gasoline powered cars starting 2035. Washington and Massachusetts have followed suit.
I am certain Colorado will follow that lead, the only question is how soon.
If the legislature continues being Democrat controlled, my guess is during the next session.
Place your bets.
Edit to add- In 2018 Colorado passed a law requiring the state to follow California emission laws.

Ford is shuttering new ICE development and letting go of most of the dev staff in this area… same with pretty much all the other car manufacturers in the world. Gasoline powered car will be impossible to own in all of Europe by 2035, my guess, it will be the same thing here by 2040.

Not only can't it handle it yet, it is going in the wrong direction. They are actively and aggressively CLOSING power plants. I haven't looked into the rest of the country, but Colorado specifically will have closed the vast majority of our current coal plants before 2030.Quote:

I figure the whole car thing will be solar powered. EV's will be mainstream. Going to Walmart will be the electric car. Going to granmas in Florida take the gas car or diesel. 20% of my neighborhood has huge solar arrays in their back yard.
If I could take a high speed electric train to DIA, I would use it. Not having a solar powered high speed train along the Front Range is silly. Even the rail could be made here using solar powered steel mills...all the groundwork resources are already here locally.

If they don't keep bumping the dates out as they approach, we'll start to look like Cuba, with a lot of really old cars on the road.

There is some overlap in the latter two. But they both exploit the tree hugger's noble goal of a cleaner planet.
I am all for clean water and air. The question few ask and fewer answer is if achieving the goal is worth the cost. The answer, especially when the federal government is involved, is usually no.

On a similar note, people in Colorado with xcel's "Saver's switch" got an ugly surprise last night when their home's thermostats were remotely set to 85deg and couldn't be overridden in an effort to save electricity.
We're so screwed.
Did not enjoy that surprise. Previous years, I only had it cut in for a short time after days and days of mid-upper 90s.

I am a customer, not by choice. I have seen these on a/c units. I wasn't aware they could change the thermostats. I was told they can "cycle down" a unit during peak usage.Quote:

Somewhere on the drive from Vegas to L.A., in CA, is a huge solar concentrator facility. It has been nothing short of a huge failed experiment. I saw this thing a couple of years ago and wanted to know more about it. I dug up a lot of research data and read up on it for days and found it is still costing more to use than it generates and (as I recall) it's only about 12% efficient - producing very little in the way of electricity.
