Just thought of a great analogy:

There are 35-40k deaths annually by traffic crashes in the US (over twice as many as total homicides, btw). The lawmakers, in an effort to curb deaths from speeding, outlaw aftermarket aluminum mag wheels. DeGette thinks this is a good idea because when the tires wear out, the wheels have to be thrown away.

Now that's funny! If she actually did say something like that, I probably wouldn't be surprised- yes, I do believe she is that dumb, no matter what the subject matter is. Watch out! If you drink that entire bottle of water you have to go buy a new one and throw the used one away.

Gun Control DeGette claims to support the Second Amendment, but also wants bans on semi-automatic firearms like those used in the 2012 Aurora shooting which happened in a gun-free zone movie theatre near her district. DeGette believes that “the sole purpose of these guns and these magazines is to kill people.” ^[11] DeGette and Carolyn McCarthy introduced the Stop Online Ammunition Sales Act of 2012. ^[12] Both the National Rifle Association and Gun Owners of America have given DeGette 0% ratings.^[13]
During a public hearing in Denver, April 2, 2013, DeGette's comments revealed she does not understand that magazines or clips are designed and intended to be reloaded as often as needed with more cartridges, also referring to cartridges as "bullets".^[14][15] Firearm magazines are spring-loaded metal or plastic boxes designed to be reused hundreds of times. Her office's clarification compounded the error by saying she meant "clips," which is incorrect as clips are metal strips that are similarly designed to be reloaded as often as necessary. Her opposition has stated they find it scary that a person who would be lead sponsor of a bill would have such a profound misunderstanding of the proposed bill.^[15][14]
