They said that was an option but also said that there will "likely be a fee" for a tech to come out and investigate, even if the error is on their end. Looks like I have to go that route because nothing else is working. Anyone here using satellite internet?

    I use Centlink DSL

    pay for 40Mb... get 50Mb... ( 20Mb up)

good solid line rarely any issues...

A bit expensive but the bill never changes.

I host my companies email and websites . no blocked ports no BS .

Dsl on the otherhand while it might be a slower advertised speed is a guaranteed speed as you are on your own 'node' of the network rather than sharing with your neighbors.

There are also ther issues when it comes to internet speed. Your speed is also limited by the server of the website you are visiting. Just because your internet service is 20mb or whatever the website you are visiting still may not be able to give you anything more than a few megabytes.

The misinformation is strong from this post. DSL is not guaranteed and if you can get 1/10th of the advertised speed you are rockin! As previously stated how far you are on their plant determines your speed. Grandpas porn doesn't run on the same frequency as your Comcast internet. If its a 5101 or similar series its docsis 2 and while capable of speeds over 20 meg it won't be as reliable as a docsis 3 at it. Airports are known for slow speed and failure (I know say it ain't so) but my suggestion would be to have a tech check it out. If one of the 10 downstream channels has issues do to bad cable/splitter/fittings you will see issues when the modem switches to that channel ESPECIALLY if its a 5100 series docsis 2. If resetting the modem fixes it temporarily its most likely ingress in one of you lines, the modem or router.

I had to deal with Comi-cast and the issue I had is the original burried line from the pole to the house was inadequate, just a basic Coax line from when house built in 1997. I was told by the Comcast guy (who told me he had Sattelite for TV and another carrier for internet!) that my line could not support more than one of their services and because it was thin and burried, my signal would get interference. When it finally died, it took them 7 weeks to get us a new line which is a 1" conduit very well insulated but we never hooked it up, went with Quest Bundle and have had same speed Comcast was up here in the Mountains, however their supplied modem sucks, still using a older one we had.

And Some misinformation in this post too .... LOL

Generally you get what you pay for with DSL. I've personally never seen a line under what they payed for . That being said yes you can't always get the 40( or 50 in my case) meg speed but they wont charge you for the 40 level and only give you 20 .. you pay the 20 level.

As for "airports known for being slow" the original ones had some issues but the newer ones have NEVER been a problem for me or any I've helped hook up . my 4 year old time capsule ( Airport extreme with a hard drive built in for back ups) gives me full speed with 802.11n speed ( and 5ghz)

the best way to see if the problem is the airport .. next time the slow down happens... unplug and replug the power ONLY the airport if the speed goes back up then perhaps you have a bad airport .. get that sucker replaced at the apple store ASAP . if the speed does not go back up ... the airport is not the issue.

Internet is the one think comcast actually got right. I bought my own surfboard and use a standard air poor base station and all is well. The Airport Extreme isn't known to be a great router, I'd personally ditch that and see if it helps.

I don't know about you, but comcast "upgraded" my speed/package a few months back for free, and I started having all sorts of problems that required me to hard reset the darn thing. I had an old Motorola surfboard, swapped it out for the latest-and-greatest I picked up online and seems to have fixed the problem.
