I think this illustrates very clearly what an arrogant, narccissitic, petulant little boy we have leading our country.
He will "negotiate" with terrorists, send them arms after circumventing the law that forbids it. He will "negotiate" with Iran, Syria and Russia.
But he will not "negotiate" with his own house and congress over a "law" that clearly hurts so many of his constituents.

The government is shutdown, I wondered why I felt better when I woke up this morning.

    Q. What corporation keeps "non-essential" personnel employed?

    A. Not a one, corporations have a duty to the shareholders to improve the bottom line. When a person is deemed non-essential to the improvement of the bottom line they are released from employment. This is not true in government which has no bottom line, no budget, and no accountability to the shareholders (the net tax payor).

I'll bet my definition of "non-essential" is different from the government's definition.

Non-essential = employees who are not vital to the safety of the nation and its people. Clerk and so on. Police, fire, military all essential.

I would assume that all the politicians are being paid during this time?

That is correct. Why would anyone think that the laws that the ruling elite pass have any impact on themselves? They're exempt from anything, even accountability.

I wish we could scrap all of the bloat and get back to the Constitution. This country needs a reboot.

Hey, since 60% of the government is working now does that mean the confiscation of money from my paycheck will be reduced by 60%?

No, they'll find some way to bill you for the overtime the essentials will have to put in.

It was my understanding that something has to work in order to shut down? Am I missing something?

    No doubt.

As I understand it the furloughed workers will get paid for their time off at a later date.
