    A few quick ideas:

Watch Groupon for those discounted helicopter rides over the city. http://www.groupon.com/deals/colorado-heli-ops-1

It can be fun to incorporate the kids, too. We have 2 dogs so I wrote "marry me?" on a tennis ball. We took the dogs to the park to play and I threw the ball and had one of the dogs bring the ball back to my then GF. I went to one knee behind her and pulled out the ring for when she turned around after she got the ball from the dog. So maybe something like that would work. Go on a family hike and have the kids call her over because they "found(a rock with "Will you marry me?" or something)" something and want her to see it. It also depends on how old the kids are.

Do they like to shoot? He could write "Will you marry me" on a sign and put it down range as a target and have her look through the scope.

Also, this time of year allows for a lot of the typical ideas such as carriage ride around Denver and other fun holiday stuff.

But to help with a budget, I'd keep an eye on Groupon for deals on activities. Then find a way to incorporate the proposal into the activity.

We got married in Vegas for a total of $5,000. We had 50-60 people. We paid $900 for a house With a heated pool and hot tub with a 60' covered patio with plenty of room for guests since we held the ceremony and reception at house. The house slept 10 peoplr as well. In Colorado, you can get a mediocre venue for $5,000 for 3-4 hours.

So my suggestion is that if it will be snall and they'll be flying folks out anyway, fly them some where cheaper to get married.

My buddy lives in the suburbs and had a bunch of neighborhood kids holding signs spelling out the "will you marry me" and she saw that when she got home from work. No wait, that's from a movie. There's a sign someone nailed up along the hike up Mt. Falcon in Morrison saying "will you marry me". I've pointed it out to girlfriend's I've taken up there to hike (with an advanced warning that I'm not popping the question). I'm kinda partial to mountain tops. There's effort involved in getting to the top that I think adds to the experience. Then again, I'm 34 and single. My idea of date night is the GF cooking up dinner and watching Duck Dynasty reruns while enjoying a Guinness, so what the heck do I know?

+1 to the helicopter idea. Night flying this time of year is awesome. Colorado heliops at KBJC does that sort of thing.

My venue was $5k and that included $1,000 for liquor, 3 meal choices, salad, champagne toast and we had the venue from 8 am until midnight. Our final total came in around $11-12k. That was for her dress, photographer, flowers, venue, DJ, everything we possibly needed. About 110 guests.

If she isn't the romantic kind.. Use that money to fly to Bali, ask her to marry and have a private ceremony there.. No need for annoying family members or in law to be there lol
