Apples and oranges friend- most people I know who build cars do so from a pre-existing model... and the rest of it, you're comparing something that's totally different to the point I was making. I understand making your own bow, I understand doing a rifle build, but I don't understand going back to a technology that has been proven by history to be beyond obsolete. Spear fishing is one thing, but spear hunting? Maybe I don't get it, but the practice doesn't interest me at all... seems to me to be extremely counter productive.

And pride? You don't think people should take pride in hunting with modern methods? Rifles have been used for hunting since rifles were invented... guess our forefathers can't be proud of putting food on their table, in your eyes. Do you want to put yourself on a more even plane with your prey? Is that why you use knives and spears? I'd rather have a slight advantage (and rely on my skills in using my weapon). That's what separates the men from the animals, our ability to create and use tools. I understand your stance on purity in hunting, but to criticize others for their methods? Being pompous in saying "I wouldn't take pride in shooting an animal" that just comes off as being a massive douche. Not trying to belittle you, just trying to give you a little perspective. Personally, I find hunting a predatory animal, like a mountain lion, to be pretty impressive no matter how it's done. You may disagree, but being an ass about it is probably not the best way to go. Just my advice.

That's fine. Most hunters will agree with you. I just prefer to make things I do more challenging instead of less, it really boosts the sense of accomplishment and enjoyment. The racing example I have is a perfect analogy, I am far more impressed and feel better about it when there are no electro-aids than when someone uses every modern advantage they can get. The more challenge you take out, the less enjoyable and less impressive the activity is. That is all I am saying. And I am not saying everyone should be out there spear hunting, I have only done it once myself, it's just a statement about taking pride in doing something that you can only really do because off all of the advantages given to you by other people. To me it's like taking pride in getting an A on a test when you copied most of the answers from your neighbor.

People can take pride in whatever they want. I could still enjoy it, but I am not going to brag about how all my tech and advantages let me bag an animal.

That's fine. I don't really care how I come off, I just speak my mind as I see it. And I was not being an ass, there is no more gentle way to say what I said. It was the others who launched into the childish personal attacks, not me. I never called anyone ignorant, a douche, asshole, moron ect. for having an opposing opinion. That was exclusive to other users. I never even criticized others for doing it or taking pride in in, just stating that I have a different perspective. Some people say they take pride in being a hustler/gangsta, would I be a douche for saying I wouldn't take pride in that? To them I probably would be, but that doesn't make it true. It just means that they are taking the issue personally, so to them it appears more offensive than it really is, which is probably what is occurring here. All I did was state an unpopular opinion, I didn't attack anyone or anything like that.

Yep, I actually did. Again showing that you don't seem to actually be reading what I am saying.

You said you have HUNTED HUNDREDS of times. So you are telling me you only hunt with your own handmade bow and you find dozens of people just willy nilly without talking to them online who are into the same thing and will hunt with you? Please excuse my cou*bullshit*gh.
Out of all my years of hunting, of all the hunters I have met, of all the animals I have killed, of all the times I've taken animals to the processor and all the hunting shows I've attended and all television shows of hunts I've watched...gives me the knowledge to know you are full of shit.

Nope. I actually said I have hunted with many different styles. Including with all the newest hotness tech. I just said I don't brag about it. AGAIN showing that you are not reading what I am saying and you are instead just inserting whatever thought you want and replying to that. And you do know there is a world outside the internet, right? And that people with common interests have been managing to find each other since long before the internet existed. I have met literally thousands of people in the real world, some of them have common interests and some do not. That is how I tend to meet the people I interact with. I have also played golf with hundreds of people, not a single one I met online. People do seem to be able to figure this out, somehow.

ill explain to you why hunters don't enjoy talking to you, because of your attitude toward their way of life, toward the way they were raised and your general attitude that what we do is not sporting, hard, or a lifelong learning event. You act like it is nothing to spend the time, money, effort, etc on hunting, all when most people have relatively low success rates. You belittle them by telling them their technology doesn't make them hunters, it makes them killers. I don't care if it is online or in person, I would call you an asshole right to your face if you told me that.

Yes, like I said, they are unwilling to tolerate an opposing opinion. Just like saying I don't want to converse with gangstas because I would not approve of their lifestyle. And it's fine to call me an asshole. From what you have shown here I wouldn't put any stock into your opinion of me anyway. It seems to be based mostly on things I didn't even say.

and you are okay using a truck to get to your hunting grounds, probably an atv to help pack it out, but using a bow or firearm to cleanly take an animal is not ethical in your mind and makes anyone who uses them just killers of animals? How many hogs did you stick with your spear that You didn't find?
you are very obviously not a hunter as no hunter I have EVER met has this attitude. Some guys may be purist now hunters and only hunt with a long bow or recurve but I haven't met any who weren't dropping their jaw at a trophy animal taken with a compound. The hunt is much more than the final kill. The hunt is the chase, the opportunity to be outdoors with the animals, to see other animals even if they aren't the game you are after. The hunt is spending time with your friends, your family, and passing down the traditions. Hunters take pride in the fact they contribute so much to the economy of small towns, they fund wildlife programs, they get kids into shooting and hunting and fishing.

I never said anything about ethics. Hell, spear hunting is probably one of the least ethical ways to kill an animal and I did that without a second thought. You are once again showing a massive failure to understand what I am even saying and are just replying to thoughts that no one has expressed but yourself. I agree, the hunt is the chase, and the chase is the element made most easy and least impressive by modern tech. That was my point the whole dang time man. And I love all the other elements you mentioned. The main reason I hunt in ways that I am not such a fan of is the reasons you mentioned, but like I said I just don't brag about how awesome I am because of all the tech I bought.

We stuck 3 hogs. Two we found and took, one got away and took a spear with it. But again, at no point has this been about ethics.

so you coming on here belittling people in their way of life makes you an asshole and proves to me you are not a hunter. In my mind you are a troll.
You are right, I am intolerant of people who speak lies about something they know little to nothing about. That is why so many people jumped on your initial post and why your follow up posts were jumped on by me.

Again, I never belittled anyone's way of life. I am not saying anyone shouldn't do anything, just expressing my opinion about the difficulty and sense of accomplishment. I have even stated I feel the same way about racing and other competitive sports, it's not even about hunting in particular. That's not belittling anything. It just seems at no point in this entire thread have you once understood what I am saying or responded to the core idea I presented.

with that, I'm done with this thread.

Wait, you ask for more info, then say you are done? How does that make sense? Just another piece of the puzzle falling into place.
