I know my mechanics always check my diffs with the truck in the air but I don't know why.

I don't know if I would go that far. More of a tool addiction I am barely paying for.

I understand that - I've been buying american made hand tools like Snap On off Ebay lately. I don't use them regularly but I sure like having them when I need them.

Excellent reputation for Armstrong, Wright, S-K, vintage Proto, Mac, and Matco, some are hard to find though. Snap On is far and away the easiest to get on Ebay and their older tools are excellent quality.

Can you hear the electric motor on the diff engaging the locker? If you can chances are your you just need to massage it a little by slowly weaving back and forth under 5 mph. It took me long enough to get mine working that i caught the attention of a LEO and he made me do a field sobriety test once i got back on a public road so i would suggest doing it in a parking lot to avoid a careless driving ticket.
I think that has the same traction control system the 4 runner had so you may want to look into how to wire up a by pass because it is really intrusive and almost worthless off road.

I have tried that, got a bit car sick doing it and still just a flashing light on the dash. Going to backprobe it and make sure it is getting the correct signal soon.
