At this point, I would be happier with cutting increased spending than I have been with the out of control spending by the profligate progressive Democratic Party.

There are: the ways I would like things to be, and then, the ways I have to learn to live with things, in order to get on with my life.

While I believe our nation is headed toward a cliff, I would like to go there as slowly as possible.

Classic throw a rabbit in a boiling pot vs putting him in a warm pot and gradually bringing up the temperature. I'd rather the train accelerate out of control if it's inevitable so at least those willing & capable of doing something about it know it's go time. Despite tons of internet chest thumping I think the actual # of those who would is minuscule at best.

    lol yup.

Honestly though, I would rather get there slowly, as cstone said. When the time comes, it's going to be awful and terrible and probably very bloody. I have a family. I want them to live happily and peacefully for as much of their lives as possible.

War is an ugly thing (but not the ugliest of things...). It is not fun or exciting, nor is it glorious or fulfilling. I want to spare my loved ones from the brutality of conflict for as long as possible.

I'm not getting younger and if I'm going to have to fight for my country/life I want to do it sooner than later. There's are reason you can't enlist in the military to fight for your country at 50 years of age and the longer we wait the older those who still believe in something bigger than themselves get. If they can slow roll this long enough all that will be left are the indoctrinated dependent and then... well... I think we all know how that story ends.

They tried and the Dems "made it hurt"... Shut down the National Parks...shut down the museums. Sent military men and women home. Instead of actually cutting spending on wasteful things that would not affect anyone, the Dems made sure the only spending that got cut was anything that would enrage and hurt the people.

The Dems are way better strategists and way better politicians. 99% of politicians are liars and cheats however the Dems have it down to a science...they have no morals so there is nothing stopping them from doing extreme things to win. And it's because they have no morals that all of them are willing to do anything for their party. They work together because they have no personal values to violate.

Conservatives by-in-large aren't willing to violate their own personal values to conform to the party needs. Many, as is evident by posts on here, simply aren't willing to compromise. This characteristic seems to be one that goes hand-in-hand with having conservative values...having strong personal convictions is honorable and just part of being conservative...the nature of the beast I believe. However it's also a flaw. A team simply can't win without many of the team members making a sacrafice of some sort...too many of the right not willing to take one for the team.

And this is precisely why Democrats have been destroying this country for years while Republicans sit on the sidelines.

I thought Obamacare would bring people out of the woodwork, but all it did was screw over people who work for a living and already couldn't afford exorbitant healthcare.

This is pretty much my thinking as well. I too have a family, and while I'd prefer they never have to experience their world torn apart like that, if it's inevitable then I'd rather it comes while I'm best prepared to protect them and fight back i.e. the next decade or so. I'd hate to be sitting there at 80 years old and have my son have to do all the dirty work because I'm too old.
Not mention with the wars of the past decade coming to an end (whether they should or not) we have a massive amount of GWOT vets with recent combat experience in urban and rural environments a chip their shoulders.
Now would be an excellent time.

While I agree with you in large part hollohas, I think it is deeper. It is not just holding to one's own personal compass when it comes to morality and integrity, it is the attempt by many conservatives to attempt to force everyone else to conform to their personal values. There are many things which, for me, are immoral and wrong and I will not do them. Yes, there are things which are wrong which I have done, and I try to alter my behavior to cut down on those. But, if you do not hold my same personal convictions, American values say that I am to let you be so long as your actions are not detrimental to my life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. When I shoot matches, I obey the rules and penalize those who do not as the rulebook says, but I do not tell them they have to shoot the course of fire that same way I do.

If we examine closely Christian values (like ti of not, the Judeo-Christian ethic is foundational to the constitution), they say that we are not to judge people, but actions while adhering to Christ's teachings. That went off in the weeds in the Christian church when legalism came in and said you can not dance, drink or chew or go with women who do. Christ associated with prostitutes and criminals, he did not condemn them. The American Christian church has sought to condemn "sinners" when if the true teaching were to be followed, ALL are condemned to sin. The politicization of Christian values left the acceptance and replaced it with judgement, even if the "sin" was impactful only on the sinner. By re-creation of the "law" most Christian politicians have lost their way in that Christianity teaches that everything done by man is folly apart from Christ. Bottom line, no-one can legislate morality and many in the Christian right think they can. If you want people to be better, you affect their thoughts, show them the benefits of better conduct, not condemn them by labeling in accord with their actions.

Republicans who want to get elected should not even be talking about issues which are already law. Rear-looking policies are the methods of Obummer, the republicans need to lead with a positive message and let the vileness of the Democratic party damage their candidates. Repeal, undoing etc. as it relates to Democrat policies is a focus on the negative. Identify the biggest problems and find solutions without attacking the Democrats directly...that looks like a winning formula for some GOP wins across the county.
