Yep. I couldn't see myself ever wanting one over the SA. Or at all for that matter.

the socom would be my first choice...but I already have an AR or two!

ammo will be cheaper for the ruger...keep that in mind, and you can add all kinds of tacti-cool stuff to the ruger. An AR platform is awesome, and the ruger is a great gun, nice piston set up and a very nice looking rifle
All I have in this world is my balls and my word and I don't break em for no one.

Personally, I'm a full size M1A fan. While I love my Loaded model dearly, I'm just not a huge fan of the SOCOM. Thats just me. When it comes to my 7.62 carbine, I'm gonna have to look at a FAL; I think that the ergonomics would make it a better carbine. Perhaps the SOCOM would be a better carbine with an aftermarket stock, but those are pretty prices in they're own right.

I'm undecided about the Ruger. I recall someone breaking down the price though on parts, and from what I remember, you're actually getting a lot of gun for the money. Look at the rails, the sights, the piston, things like that.

What is 5.56 going for these days? I'm pretty sure that 7.62 is more, I just don't think it is a whole lot more. Thank God I reload!

I'd say really look at what you want the rifle to do. Honestly, I think you'd be hard pressed to do wrong with either one.

Ruger makes a great gun.... but IDK about their AR. I'd get the socom personally.... but I also have a few AR's already.

My thoughts exactly, for what you are getting with the Ruger it is a pretty good price, also, I really think they did a great job on this Gas Piston AR, by making the gas adjustable. The Socom is nice though, I like the hard hitting aspect of it, and it is a very nice platform. I appreciate everyones input though. I dont know if you any had read this article on the Ruger SR556 but it is a good read, check it out when you have time.

They are both great guns, I have the SOCOM II. I shoot the Ruger 10x as much. If I HAD to get rid of one, it would be the SOCOM. I had 5 AR's when I got the SR556, I'm down to just 2 now.
Hell, come down here and you can shoot mine before you spend your money, and then you will know which one to buy first.

The socom is sweet but I think about the price of ammo every pull of the trigger and the price of mags. The ruger looks cool, but for the price am looking hard at the Stag Piston AR I think its called the 8 or something

Prices of mags aren't too different; CMI mags for $21. What are PMags these days? Just sayin'. I have no interest in paying $40 for USGI issue, when I can get CMI, which are new USGI issue. I could care less if it says TRW or W or whatever else is printed on them; just as long as they work.
