I found it scary that apparently up until something like 1979 or so, the "secret launch code" to the missiles was something like 11111111.

Yeah if the missile silos were cutoff from the rest of the world, the "fail safe" launch code was "000000000". I was in Little Rock, Arkansas when this happened! I watched it explode live on TV...

My dad (AF) was an electronics tech for Titan II silos. Primary specialty was launch control/modules. I wonder if he ever had a little theoretical voice on his shoulder saying "dood, you could totally start WWIII all by yourself"... I've never asked that question though, lol.

Kinda crazy when you think about it.... that potentially one guy could do it. hahaa
