If someone slams on their brakes in the middle of the road and reverses toward me, yes, that'll count as road rage for me. I'd be ready for them to jump out of their car and act like a badass.

Fair enough. I get the impression that the stop was due to traffic and he backed up after stopping. Not sure why you would have to wait for traffic to clear if you randomly braked. What you mentioned sounds like a brake check to me and that would make me angry.

What I wouldn't give to drive a cop car for a day and everyone around me follow the rules, use their signals, let me in when I signal, etc.
Every driver out there seems to do what they please, I don't know they get away with it.

It definitely wasn't a "brake check."
    I don't do that shit.
Again, had the phone not come up, I would have continued on with my normal morning commute.

As far as using your turn signals go when making a lane change, you are supposed to turn it on in advance, check over your shoulder, then make the lane change when it is clear to do so. Not put the turn signal on after your tire crosses the lane divider while making a lane change and bulling your way in. The traffic in the lane you are moving to has right of way and you must yield to it.

As for the original post, the way the OP wrote it up, the Woman used an Exit lane to pass slowing traffic, then tried to cut back in across the painted gore point, that was wrong.
But, the OP is also ring by doing the brake check and backing up after stopping.
My T.P. wheeling and dealing feedback is here.

Opinions are like assholes, everybody has one, and it stinks more than mine.

But don't take my word for it, go to just about any DOT site and you can read it for yourself. Minnesota's DOT page comes up first on google (though in this case it's construction specific) so here's their description of a zipper merge:

    http://www.dot.state.mn.us/zippermerge/

Of course if you have road ragers not letting you in when you get to the lane going away, that's when problems arise.

    O2

So so why was it today I saw several signs indicating when to merge over (merge now) when clearly over a half mile away was the actual merge point where the cones etc were located? Do you wait until you get right next to a vehicle in the emergency lane then snap over to the other lane and snap it right back? What about when a lane is ending ahead and signs mention them a half mile ahead, do you wait until the last second when the solid white starts to push you over or do you start over early, say at the 1500' mark?
do you also honk every time you pass a bicycle when having to cross a double yellow letting them know you are going to pass?

I don't let stupid people in front of me. When it is clearly marked that the lane ends, traffic merges, lane closed, etc, people have plenty of time to realize it by reading the signs instead of their damn phones or trying to take advantage of others that are following the rules. At that point I say screw em, they can sit and wait for somebody kinder than myself.

And dont worry OP, Cops know people are stupid ass drivers and a picture means squat. I've called in some d bag on 70 before that was pointing his finger at people like it was a gun a tug like he was shooting at people. never even got a response back from the cops and I had him a safe distance in front of me for over 30 miles without a single cop showing up from anywhere.
All I have in this world is my balls and my word and I don't break em for no one.

Why is it some people in this thread remind me of the NPR-loving vegan animal rights activists I used to contend with back in DC? The woman tried to sidestep traffic by using an exit lane as a passing lane. Eff her.

    This x100!

Lately, I've seen more examples of road rage from women than I have from men.
In the wrong, but pissed they still didn't get their way like the OP is describing.

Letting anyone in after that only reinforces the bad behavior.
