x3 on the Seal pup, I bought the elite model last spring, and took it on several camping trips, doing everything from cutting cord to chopping branches for firewood. Its still as sharp as the day I got it. The nylon sheath has a nice sized pouch on the front that I keep a firestarter and sharpening stone in. I have been eyeballing the Gerber LMF II tho, may be one of my next purchases.

I too have some of the very fine Western knifes, they were made to work and the steel is some of the finest I have ever put an edge on. I would have two+a Western hatcet with me if tshtf. hard to find better steel than wats used in a western!!!!!

I got a Seal Pup and the Gerber LMF ASEK at the same time (I cheaped out and wanted to save $20 by getting the Gerber without the sheath, dumb move on my part. Someday I have to buy one), but ended up giving the SOG to my oldest son (13).
It was so light and the handle felt like cheap Chinese plastic, I figured the thing would shatter if subject to anything rougher than a heavy sneeze. I don't go around intentionally destroying things so I don't know for sure, but now I'm wondering if I underestimated the thing.
A plan is just a list of things that don't happen.

Damn-did a search for the sheath for the Gerber LMF and it costs more than I paid for the knife w/sheath.
Don't pick a fight with an old man. If he is too old to Fight, he'll just kill you.

Yup. I sewed together a couple pieces of leather as a sorry excuse for a sheath until I can find one for a reasonable price. I'm still kicking myself for being cheap.
