But with the deaths from tasers, would it be worth the risk of taseing a minor in front of all those witnesses? Could have ended pretty ugly.

Sounds like he should have thought about those deaths from tasers before he jumped into the field.

Personally, I'd rather use lead for those idiots that can't follow protocol, rules, ettiquette, etc.... but I guess I can live with electricity.

    No, no, no.

I'm not trying to get all soft on you guys, but a kid being stupid and running out on a field is NOT, in my opinion, justification for a taser unless he got violent.

Just grab the kid and drag him off.

Tasers kill people often enough. they shouldn't be used unless the offender is a danger to himself or others.

Take my little brother for example.

he has a heart condition, mitral valve prolapse.

A taser could EASILY send him into cardiac arrest.

And before someone says "Well then he should know better blah blah blah"

He wasn't diagnosed until he was near 19 years old, and had done more than his fair share of stupid things.

Luckily no cop ever tased him.

    Why?

He was never dangerous, he was just being an idiot kid.

    Tasers are a LESS-LETHAL weapon, not a NON-LETHAL.

A baseball feild is a large area for 4 or 5 security guards (who are often out of shape, etc) to patrol and keep people from running around. People know the rules. I say fair game. By the age of 12, concrete reasoning skills are instilled in adolescents. Unless they are retarded, they are fair game. They know the rules. As someone said, "play stupid games, win stupid prizes." That's rough about your brother, good thing he was never tazed. Cops are not held responsible for an individuals personal health however. They do not have the advantage of knowing whether someone has a heart condition of not... Once again, the audience should know not to jump on the field.

Here I agree. I would rather see patrols armed with AA-12's with those bean bag slugs.... I think that would be a lot more fun to watch.

    A) He was shot by LEO, not security.
    B) The poor physical shape of the officer in question is not a valid excuse.
    C) Yes, you're right, cops cannot be expected to know the conditions of the people they encounter, and in case where the cop or other people are in danger, of course, go ahead and use the taser, but this kid was just being an idiot. who was he going to hurt even if he ran around for another 10 minutes?

He was being stupid. Not dangerous. And in my opinion, that does not warrant the use of less-lethal force.

We've delt with crazed sports fans for PLENTY of years without using tasers.

So long as he doesn't vacate his bowels in front of everyone, I'm good with it.
