So many better options for that price and what you get... candle power forums is a great resource but for that price I would be looking at a couple of flashlights

    Fenix
    Streamlight
    Some Surefires
    M3-2I (Greg McGee engineering)
Or even some other 'off brands.'

I'm open to suggestions. My only requirements are that I can mount this on a gun and it survives, LED, single mode probably momentary switch, and is not priced stupid. Good range and some spill on light quality, but thats just my ignorant position.

The two lights i grab now are the Surefire Fury and the Fenix PD35.

The Fury fits yours needs. The pd35 is multi mode, but has a momentary on tailcap. The modes are changed from a separate switch by the head, so it doesnt impact the on/off or momentary on

    Mounts that I have used:

    Viking Tactics: http://www.vikingtactics.com/product-p/vtac-mk4.htm
    Gear Sector: https://www.gearsector.com/view/product/261/

Both really good mounts. For the price, the vikings tactics is hard to beat. It has always held my lights in place and I've never had any issues. The gear sector is more pricey but for the SBR, I wanted an offset for the config.

    Lights:
Streamlight TLR-1s - Requires no mount, frequently goes on sale through various suppliers, easy to use. Has strobe and single stage, 300 lumens. (https://www.amazon.com/Streamlight-6.../dp/B0037CJCMK)
Surefire G2X - Comes in single or dual output. Different switch configurations as well, 300 lumens (http://www.opticsplanet.com/surefire...20-lumens.html)
Surefire 6PX Defender - Pretty similar to the G2X, just with a aluminum body and defender style bezel. (https://www.midwayusa.com/product/45...aluminum-black)
Streamlight PROTAC-HL - Multiple settings (strobe, high, low, SOS, etc) programmable, 750 lumens (http://www.lapolicegear.com/st-88040-protac-hl.html).
Greg McGee M3-2I - Again, similar to the protac-HL with settings. The one I had was 1000 lumens but looks like they offer it in 1200 lumens now. He is also local in Denver.

For me, I wanted to keep my light setup -$150. Pretty much all of these will accomplish that with greg mcgee including two tinergy batteries and a charger. Don't get too distracted by lumens as 300 is PLENTY! I really could not tell that much a difference between my M3 (1000 lumens) to the others that are around 300 lumens. I've also heard very good things about fenix but I have yet to own one.

i would argue you can tell a pretty good deal of brightness difference between 300 and 500 (and now 600 on the fury). However, I don't think one can tell much difference between 500 (especially a surefire 500) and 1000 lumens.

+1 for the Fenix products! The TK09 is nice because it doesn't have memory, so always turns on at the highest setting (LE requested feature, this was made for many LE agencies).

Also take a look at the Olight products. One of the vendors on the site here carries them, IIRC. They make a nice offset mount also that's been solid for my applications...

TONS of choices, there may not be a "clear winner", so decide what features you need and try and get your hands on a few.

Thanks for the tips. Believe it or not, candlepowerforum just spit out elzetta as an alternative, and the other AR forums go straight for the über expensive lights. I'll take a look at the suggestions and post again with probably more questions.

I will agree that there is in fact a difference but more on paper. You would think 1000 lumens would be twice as bright as 500 but that is not the case. Aside from other hobbies, I really enjoy flashlights. You can spend as little or as much as you want. For firearms, I would say buy a quality light (doesn't have to equal expensive) and you will be happy. A cheap 1000 lumens light will not be as bright as a quality 300 lumens light.
