Another surprise to most people: Nuclear winter doesn't exist. (Even if all the worlds nukes were launched). The researcher was an unaware patsy, but they managed to make it go mainstream and embedded in every facet of American nuclear-thought even though the science backing it was completely false.

Don't believe me? Compare for instance, some of the very large volcanos that have erupted to which even the TSAR can't begin to compare insofar as energy release. The debris ejection for some of these mega-volcanos by themselves pretty much surpasses that of all the worlds nukes.

Would nuclear war be terrible? Absolutely, not dismissing that. Millions die. However, the "extinction" event wouldn't actually happen. Growing a third arm out of your back? More likely...
