    Default Sex Ed Bill HB19-1032

HB19-1032 passed committee last night. If you're not paying attention, you should be.

    https://www.thedenverchannel.com/new...ve-sex-ed-bill

Lontine said the bill is about wellness for youth, and teaching them about all forms of sexuality. An effort to push for acceptance, in hopes of pushing out shaming and bullying of LGBTQ relationships.

    [snip]

State law already bans teaching abstinence-only sex education
in Colorado, but Lontine said right now, Charter schools can apply for waivers not to teach comprehensive sex ed. Her bill puts an end to the loophole and adds funding for rural districts to teach it, if they chose to opt in.
"They're teaching abstinence only education which is harmful to kids. It's not an honest conversation," she said.

The value of abstinence only isn't some puritanical fantasy about kids not having sex, it merely encourages them not to until they are mature enough to make that decision. This is key in the development of children.

We again see Libs working hard to take this space away from parents in an effort to introduce children to sexuality well before they are ready. If your personal values conflict with the sex ed being taught your public school student now has to weigh the sex ed curriculum with what mom/dad said. And understand you have next to no control over this in public school.

Also you'll find no age restriction on when these things can be taught in the bill or guidance on age appropriate material. We've already seen LGBTQ normalization as early as kindergarten when children have no concept of human sexuality. We are seeing gender dysphonia in elementary aged children, not brought on by an internal conflict/issue but by activist parents and teachers.

It is interesting that the first significant bill the first gay governor will sign effectively forces his lifestyle on the children of the state.

    Was reading through this yesterday.

Not only is it an issue w/ the inability to teach abstinence-only, but also ropes in the LGBT angle where those relationships must be taught as well.

While currently the bill only extends to public and charter schools, the East Coast model eventually extends to private schools and, somehow, even homeschoolers based on what else I've seen in researching it.

You can't say that kids aren't ready for sex after they've gone through puberty. It's one thing to try and teach responsibility, but it is an exercise in futility to pretend for a second that any lessons of responsibility are going to put weigh raging hormones. I'll have to read the bill later to see if there is anything bad in it. Teaching only abstinence is criminally stupid though.

Denver Archdiocese says they plan on fighting and resisting. They think it will eventually apply to all private schools.

But not the Jewish or Muslims ones, of course.

So kids having sex at 11-13ish is a good idea? Even if a child uses this "education" to avoid STDs and pregnancy that is putting kids on a course to fail when they have yet to establish themselves as humans. I knew kids (boys) in high school who had their whole lives altered. Thank God I wasn't that stupid!

"Raging hormones" aren't even an excuse to look at a female the wrong way in 2019. Funny how kids are supposed to navigate this complexity of having sex as children but not saying the wrong thing to a female (MeToo).

If this fits with your values, fine, but you (and Libs) have no right to force that on everyone just as I would have no right to force my values on your kids.

Thanks for posting this. My wife went down to provide her testimony against this bill, as it is much more nefarious than they are admitting. 300+ people showed up to testify against the bill, plus thousands of emails.

Only 40 or 50 showed up to testify in favor.

The bill passed on party lines, as the liberals never listened to the people.

Irving, they're going to "teach" (indoctrinate) them in early elementary school. This isn't just about puberty aged kids.

Do you think it's ok to teach this to 8 and 9 year olds???

PS - do you think it's the school's (government) job to teach kids sex Ed at all???

Students can't recite the Bill of Rights, create a budget, cook or change a tire, but they'll learn all about transexual relationships. Nice. American public schools...preparing kids for nothing for decades. Now coming to a private and charter school near you.

I haven't read any responses yet, but thought I should ratchet back my suggestion that abstinence only sex Ed is criminally dumb. People generally try to do what is best for their kids and I can't begrudge anyone that. I disagree with it, at least on its face, but it isn't criminal. There are much worse things to have in school, like equality of outcome and other socialist trash.
