Fortunately our community has signs posted at both entrances, with the ARS spelled out. Only door ringing at my place is the neighbor kids wanting to play, or Amazon, UPS, etc. But no, I'm like you, I don't answer the door for anything usually.
I've got two and it doesn't stop door-to-door salesmen. If everyone stopped buying from door-to-door salesmen the problem would go away almost overnight. The fact that they have any success at all though is what keeps them going. Same with phone solicitors... people complain about them but they continue to reward the bad behavior. If I don't know who you are when you ring my phone or doorbell I couldn't care less.
