The key is to buy more than one Service Grade at a time. If you only order one- you never know exactly what you will get, and the stocks will more than likely be firewood grade. Buy 5, build the best one out of the five using the best parts, clean up and sell the rest for a profit.

I found this one on arms list I don?t know enough about them if this is a fair price or not. Or maybe you can point me in the direction of one

Not knowing what you?re getting is half the fun.

Nowhere near as much fun as building one from the best parts- then building the rest and selling them.

I found one which seems to be in really good shape. Since I hardly know anything about these rifles, would someone here be willing to look it over? Or be able to recommend a place or person. Yes I have watched YouTube videos and read, there’s still something about “the knowledge of hands on” if that makes sense.
    Thanks

I found a guy that works on the Grands, 30 Carbines, 1907 and so on. He went over the rifle with me and it ended up a course on the rifle over 2 hours and 45 bucks later I now know the workings and what to look for and a whole lot of tips and tricks. He does parkerizing, wood refinishing and so on. Here is his card.

Anybody order one from the CMP recently? I was thinking of picking up another one and see they have some Field Grade and Service grade available on the site.

I have an order in right now with them. Only field grades they have are winchesters, and the service is luck to the draw HRa or Springfield. For 1080 you can get a service grade IHC

I was thinking of taking my chances on one of those field grade Winchesters considering the price is pretty good. I already have a Korean War Springfield which would probably be considered a service grade (I didn't get it from the CMP) so I'm really just looking for a WW2 piece for my collection. And since the Winchesters are all WW2 era I figured I'd be better off that way then potentially getting another post WW2 Springfield or something like that.

I just signed up for the Garand Collectors Association this week and waiting for my card so I can complete my paperwork with the CMP for one. I guess I missed the boat on those 1911s I heard about.
