FTR, people who advocate taking money up front and letting them deal with it fail to realize that is a HUGE asshole move to the dealer.
You go to the dealer to transfer your gun from party A to party B. If the dealer is following all the advice on private party transfers, they are not filling out firearm info and if denied, your weapon has not been entered into their books at all.
So for a presumptuous customer to say "Whelp dealer, its your problem now, you are obligated to sell it on your shelf and fight with this guy who wants his money back"
....
I know a few dealers who would tell such a customer how far a fist can be shoved up a butt. Not attacking anyone here, just remember that when you are doing a private party transfer, everyone - please don't be a dick to the dealer.
