It has happened enough times this season that I think he?s starting to roll his eyes. LOL

He will watch them fly off and then he doesnt want to follow my direction. Instead he wants me to follow him in the direction of the bird. He knows what we are after. He just doesn?t understand property lines or that the bird likely flew a mile away?

My uncle had a German short hair that was awesome in the field with pheasant but would give disappointed look if you missed the bird he got up for you. If you had a bad day shooting he made you feel ten times worse.

My uncle would shake his head and chuckle, "you know you sucked when the dog comes home mad".

This is my other dog, Luna. She doesn't retrieve, she leaves that up to the GSP Finn. She's really small and just can't handle big roosters. She finds the birds, locks on solid point and watches them fly but doesn't care if you shoot them or not cause she's off to find more as soon as she hears a shot.

The GSP honors her perfectly and will run through anything to retrieve birds. He's still learning to mark where they fall but doesn't give up if he can't get right to a dead bird the first try.

    Pretty good team these two.

This is my first hunting dog, so one is plenty. But I?m sure it?s fun to watch them work as a team!

I think the retriever hunt tests we did all year helped with marking. He does pretty well unless the grass is over his head.

The rooster from Friday was just winged. It led Cody on a 100 yard foot race across the cornfield. This boy can take credit for most of my birds this year. There?s only a couple that I would have found on my own.

    Default Big Dog

Did lots of puppy and kitten fostering during school closures to distract the kids, but our big dog did most of the work.

I missed this thread for a while. Sorry to hear about Calvin. Hope he's making good progress!

Was busy dealing with life. Our doggo is finally healing up after his neutering a couple of weeks ago. Been stressful on everyone.

After x-rays, ultrasounds, and an MRI, they figured out that he had a bulging disc that had gotten infected. The infection ate the disc and much of both adjacent vertebrae. Luckily, they had a great neurosurgeon on staff who was able to operate the next day. It's been a slow recovery, with a long way to go yet, but he's happy and getting better every day. I've been sleeping on the floor with him every night that I'm home. He's in better spirits than I was after a lesser surgery!

Ah fawk Fente. Best for the dawg.

They are our kids and I hate to see them in pain.

These are my dogs, Jack and Harley. Jack (in the canoe) is a Belgian Malinois and Harley is half German Shepherd/Belgian Malinois. They?ve been great for us and our large family. Harley just had her first litter too! So that?ll be a fun new adventure.

There's a man who leads a life of danger.
To everyone he meets he stays a stranger.
With every move he makes, another chance he takes.
Odds are he won't live to see tomorrow.
