With a pre-made shower pan, there is meant to be a small "weep hole" along each side of the pan that will allow any moisture that gets thru the tile/grout to drain down into the pan. Same goes if it's just pre-made panels on the walls, still a chance for moisture to get behind, and you want it to drain out. Think your second pic shows one of the notches meant to drain water from sides back into the pan.

Not to totally derail this thread but there is a caulk called Cleanz that will not mold.

I just bought 10 dimmer switches for the new house.

I just replaced a bunch of new rocker switches in my new place with these smart dimmer switches:

And replaced some really cheapo style fan controls with some smart digital versions
    old:

    new:

Re-wiring made easier by using these Wago 221 "lever wire nuts":

These made it easier to keep the wires clean and neat, and made more space in the boxes, which was needed cause all these "smart" switches are extra deep.
Biggest benefit of these was when joining in stranded wires (that were internally attached on the new switches) to the exisiting solid copper. Every existing fan switch had the stranded wires, and in every case, the solid wire was untwisted with the stranded just wrapped around it in the wire nut. New connection with the wago is much more secure.

My brother does lots of electronics testing work, took a couple to work with him, ran 1500 watts thru them and measured with a thermal camera. The connector got no hotter than the wire itself.

Installed a few of these as well at the kitchen island:

It's been a challenge for me but it's been rewarding to see the progress. I'm getting tired of washing dishes in the bathroom sink, though. I'll be glad when the countertops are done.

Neither of us like the modern grays and neutral colors. It may not be the norm but, like you, we really enjoy the look of the wood. It just feels warmer and more homey than the newer schemes. We're even gonna trim out all the windows and doors in a darker-stained pine.

Yeah, I know about doing dishes in the bathroom sink. Kitchen remodels aren't much fun.

We also like the character of natural wood. We went with rustic hickory cabinets that have natural character in the wood. We've had nothing but compliments on them. They were built by a company in Oregon named Kemper. https://www.kempercabinets.com/
