I may have posted something like that jokingly at one time or another. It's a running joke around my house that I celebrate my 27th birthday every year. Makes it easier to pretend the rest of the year too.

Whew... I was scratching my head. I was thinking, "I've met the dude (SAFriday) and though he seems to be in great shape and is extremely knowledgable and has great life experiences... I don't think he's in his late 20's. At least that's not how I'd profile him." I was starting to think I had my faces/names messed up.

I do think there is some glamorization of teen pregnancy in the media. The MTV show Teen Mom comes to mind. Next time you are standing in the check out line in Safeway, look at the magazines...you will see these so-called teen moms on the cover of many of them.

That being said, I have to question that some of the girls you are seeing at Walmart may not been teenagers anymore. I am only 27 and I can hardly tell anymore...I bet it's even harder to tell when your 40. I say this because my wife and I had our first kid (fully planned) at 26. Everywhere we went, people were criticizing us for being too young to have kids. Got pretty old. The wife of a very good friend of mine also had her first at 26. While she was going to baby swim lessons, all the 40 year old new moms with babies gave her a hard time about being too young...many even going so far as to ask if he was an accident. Others asking why she would want to have a kid so young.

What I see happening is the culture is switching to having babies at an older age. It is perfectly accepted now to have your first child when the mother is 40+. This used to be a no-no as it increases the risk to the baby to get all sorts of bad disorders, etc. But now women are choosing their career over being a parent until they are much older. Nothing wrong with that of course from the woman's perspective but what is does show is our culture's general lack of support for working moms. These women are choosing to have children later because having a child can ruin their career. That is wrong. My wife, a soon to be licensed architect at age 28, has seen her career take a steep dive after having a child. The people at her work have stopped respecting her, they no longer view her as part of the team because she doesn't go out to the bar after work with them anymore. She sits at a desk all day but her work refuses to let her do the same work from home when the baby is sick and can't go to daycare. The she gets flak when she returns for everything she missed. They say "how sick could the baby really be?" Also, daycare costs a shit-ton. It helps to have an established career making some good money in order to still work and afford to have a child...something that many younger adults can't do yet.

Anyway, I guess that is a rambling way to say that I see the average age of moms increasing, not decreasing.

Default TOPIC #2: Some People are Picky to the Point of Annoying

"You're out of original Yoplait Key Lime flavored yogurt? Well, that just pisses me off. I shop here all the time and you don't have any today. I'm pissed."

You can't believe just how common this is. There are 80 fricken flavors and at least three different brands on the damn wall. Pick something else or move along. If this were a rare tantrum, I would chalk it up to the individual, but this happens a lot. It reflects an aspect of our current society and who we are becoming as a whole. We are definately becoming spoiled and soft, and it's stemming from our consumeristic nature when it comes to food.

If the shit hits the fan, the herd will cull faster than any of us can imagine. If it's a fast reacting impact to society, grocery stores will be the first looted and subsequently turn into killing fields. A slower SHTF scenario will take longer to get there, but ultimately still end in a killing field. Most people just don't have to be flexible in their lives anymore to sustain a level of normalicy.

People just don't know how to cowboy-up anymore.

I buy the Greek Yogurt because of the protein, and I was quite miffed when Wal Mart stopped selling the Dannon and Yoplait Greek. Even went as far to send a letter to the Manager.

Not really, i'd never do such a thing, and have to roll my eyes at the people that Bit$% about small things such as being out of Key Lime yogurt. I mean REALLY?

As I was reading your first two paragraphs I was already formulating my response which was going to look almost EXACTLY like your third paragraph. I just kept flashing to the book One Second After while reading those first 2 paragraphs and thinking how totally screwed these folks that share that mentality really are.

We used to have a friend that is a vegan. She is by far the most unrealistic person I've met. I kind of hope for tragedy just so I'll know that she is out there suffering. Absolutely unwilling to move on any topic at all. If she has a problem with a very simple solution, so simple that EVERYONE will tell her the same thing, then she'll do the opposite, just to avoid doing what someone else suggested to her. I give her 6 months before she lets the bank take her house and declares bankruptcy. SAFriday, you unwittingly tapped into a rant that has been simmering inside of me for months now. I don't even want to talk about it.

C'mon Stuart! Rant away! I bet it isn't going to be much different than the musings in all our heads as well.
“Every good citizen makes his country's honor his own, and cherishes it not only as precious but as sacred. He is willing to risk his life in its defense and is conscious that he gains protection while he gives it.” Andrew Jackson

A veteran is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America ' for an amount of 'up to and including my life.'

That is Honor, and there are way too many people in this country who no longer understand it.
