Canted front sight

Went shooting the other day with a friend of mine, he wanted me to help him sight in his AK.....so I did.
Noticed that his front sight is canted, so we tried to fix it but no luck. Is there anyone that can help get his sight properly fit. Or any suggestions as to where I can point him to make it right.
His AK is a Yugo M70AB2, he is also having problems with the grenade launcher thing-a-majigy. (Don't know much about these)

canted sites are quite common on wasrs -never heard of one on a yugo
not saying it isnt
but with todays builds(century)you never know
first before trying to remedy it-shoot it and try adjusting it-if it ajusts out leave it
but if its off the paper its an easy fix
i had to do a wasr-first get a straight edge and mark the center line on the barrel from the gass block
knock the pins out-while the rest of the barrel is squared in a vice twist the front sight with a pipe wrench or a wrench that fits so it lines up with the centerline you marked on the barrel
redrill the pin holes slightly oversized and install new oversized pins-done
i heard some guys just vice up the barrel and twist the front site to center without removing the pins-worst you get is bent pins-aint goin anywhere

and what kind of issues is he having with the grenade thingy?
just might need a good doucheing-there usualy caked with coz

Problem with the grenade launcher is when he is shooting, it pops up enough to block the front sight. We taped it to get through the shooting session.
We got on paper (about an inch right @ 50yrds) and that was the limit as far as wind adjustments.
We knocked out the pins but couldn't budge the front sight at all and actually ended up bending the hood on the front sight.
Thinking about just buying a totally new sight and having it installed, call it good.
We are in Colo Springs so if there are any local AK gurus please let me know........

Huh... I remember the Yugo that I used to have, the grenade sight was difficult to even move up into position, so I didn't play with it much. It sounds like some adjustments need to be made to keep the sight in the down position. I don't know without seeing it (and I can't remember mine). Just get the hammer out and start banging... you might be able to fix both problems

Canted sights are a common issue with the WASR's as noted and will pop up time to time on other rifles. There was a slew of Arsenal 107's that were canted but it was more of an asthetic issue and Arsenal was great as far as repair/replacement.
If you value your weapon DO NOT attempt to twist,pry or hammer on the FSB with the pins in place.
The pins MUST be removed to repair a canted FSB correctly. FSB's are pressed onto the barrel and some can be quite tight. I will usually soak down the FSB with Kroil prior to doing anything to it. Sometimes you can get lucky and the pins will drive out easily but most of the time I won't even try to drive them out. I just mill them out with a 1/8th carbide mill. Sometimes you may need to heat the FSB to break it loose.
To align the FSB I set up the barreled receiver in the mill vise and center on the notch in the rear sight with a dead center. I then run the table travel to the FSB and center up the sight post on my dead center. If it won't center up by turning the FSB then the barrel is bent (usually by somebody twisting the FSB) or the receiver is tweaked/twisted (again, usually the result of being Bubba'd). If you don't have a mill a very good way of aligning is to take a piece of bright thread and run it down the center of the rear sight. Then hold it taut and center up on the front sight post but have enough thread to extend a few feet in front of the muzzle. Any misalignment will be very apparent. Adjust the FSB as needed.
Once aligned and square the pinholes are milled through the FSB/barrel and new pins are installed and peened.
As far as the grenade sight/gas cutoff being loose that again is an easy fix. It is sheetmetal and the springiness is what acts as a detent. There is a small dimple that registers on depressions on the gasblock. Remove the grenade sight and gently squeeze the base of it. You just want to add a bit of resistance to the fit of it on the gasblock. Re-install it and you should have enough resistance to prevent it from popping up during recoil.

FWIW- an inch at 50 is acceptable accuracy for an AK- they are built to "Minute of Man" standards as opposed to "Minute of Angle".

Bptactical said good stuff just for future reference when I hit the sight or other barrel parts with a hammer it's a brass hammer and light enough that it doesn't damage it, if that doesn't work I press parts back off and press them back on I proper alignment. If you're unhappy with how you bent to hood and are wanting to get a replacement front sight then I would check apex (either m70 or m72 front sight) though they will be blued and I assume your us built m70 is phosphate coated. If you're not comfortable re-phosphating and replacing your sight then maybe take it to a smith, I can't comment on smiths as I do my own ak work but I have seen a rifle phsosphated by bp tactical so I would trust them with my stuff (not advertising just my opinion).
