But yeah, just calling my rant stupid with absolutely no valid argument works too.

No it isn't. You can get insured on anything in the world, if you can afford it. What is the difference between Workers Compensation and Life Insurance? They are not the same, but it is a great example of being able to be insured for doing something dangerous, and it not being stupid, or a bad move.

Insurance covers against sudden, accidental loss. Stupidity is covered.

Just for your mind's health, there are policies that remove certain coverages if you were found to not have been wearing a seat belt. That is a pretty common thing if I remember correctly.

Wife and I have been using our seat belts for every time we venture out in the vehicle regardless of destination. Way back in 1961 we used to attend a lot of stock car races in Soldier Field, Chicago and after seeing so many of the stock cars having some serious pile ups and the drivers walking away, we got a set of belts from the old Warshawski store in Chicago and I installed them in our new 1961 Chevy Impalla. Drilled and bolted them right into the floor. Have used seat belts ever since (right at 50 years). Almost makes us some of the earlier pioneers using seat belts long before they were required by law. I do carry a sharp knife to cut our way out just in the unlikely event we ever get trapped in the vehicle by our belts. There are a huge number of serious accidents on I-25 between Pueblo and Trinidad and so damn many of them are from over correcting when the vehicle runs off the shoulder. "Click it or ticket"!
