I would guess 6 benches made out of concrete.

Seeing as how Uncle Sam had me working Christmas Day, I decided to take today off and head up to Buena Vista with a friend.

The drive from Colorado Springs took just over 2 hours and it was not warm when we got there. Maybe 20-25 degrees.

Lots of steel targets to shoot. Many of the close up targets are difficult to see when prone. The bowling pins at 550 & 575 were pounded upon unmercifully. And the coyote and his little friend at 950-ish took some hits.

And that little skinny rat bastard at 1015 took some hits as did that 7-10 inch plate at 1020.

I shot 50 rounds of 338 Lapua and about 80 rounds of 6CM (almost a 243 Ackley) from my two AI Rifles.

I am looking forward to going back.

I'll be shooting at the DOW this Thursday around noon, weather forecast looks good. Everyone call in sick head to the range!

Metup with offgrid at this range today.

This is a very nice facility, would be nice if it was privately owned and cost money. But it is very well kept and layed out nicely. The rifle range where we shot (as pictured on page 1) is really a treat, lots of steel all the way out to 1020, I was able to get good dope on my bolt gun and had some fun shooting my AR further than I ever had (stretched its legs to 500 or so).

I highly recommend checking this place out if you can.

In a way I'm glad its 100 miles from me, or my ammo and barrel costs would probably go up.
    Dude, where's my can?

Nice shooting with you Chris. Lots of fun getting on that 10" gong at 1020yds.

The DOW is in the process of expanding the range. The boundary berm to the left has been moved about 50' farther left and moving the 100yd berm to the left side. Also adding another row of benches to the left side. Should open things up a bit getting rid of the 100yd berm in the middle.

I'm headed out to go camping in Buena Vista with a group of folks today. While they go rafting tomorrow, I might just have to shoot a bit. I'm not really a long range guy, but we'll see what my AR (and my eyes) can do!

Family owns my fathers childhood house up there. I just hate that as a kid I got drug up there so often with no tv etc. Now when I'm older with guns I've only been able to get to that range twice, and of those one was cram full of people spending an hour on 5 rounds to sight in for one hunting season or another.

Living in Fort Collins now also doesn't help with the distance.
