Eh, you'd be real disappointed to learn how common this kind of thing is. Probably only made the news because the officers talked to the news (poor form by the way). In Tucson we had two bariatric ambulances, that were used on calls for patients over ~500lbs as a rule of thumb. City of under a million had too many people over 500-600 lbs to keep just one. And there were a couple of times I had to wait for one to free up. We did use them occasionally for other stuff, like patients in Halo braces too, but very very uncommon.
The toilet thing must be common, I knew of one call like that in Tucson. She was just fat, not retarded.
