Then where did all this DPD bashing come from... Yes Denver gun laws suck but how many people do you know who were actually charged with violations of the Assault Weapon or Hi-Cap bans? It's the cities elected government that has been anti gun, not the Officers of the DPD who still do have discression to arrest or not even if you had 100 30rd mags. Also, most cops tend to search the cars of shady indviduals with prior drug, gang or weapon offense NOT law abiding citizens... Unless you decide to pull some attitude and treat the Officer with the same respect you seem to give them on here. In that case I totally understand why you'd get hassled. It's just like socializing with any almost any other person where you are polite and respectful and you get the same in return. Decide to be the tough guy that wants to have an attitude and you'll probably get attitude back.

I'd bet you $100 that you can drive down I-70 right now get stopped tell the officer about the AR15 in your trunk and probably won't even have to get out of your car because He'll probably say, "Okay, Thanks for letting me know" and walk back to his car to finish business related to the stop.

Your experience with your accident is going to be the norm with most DPD cops. They are not going to disarm you and arrest you.... There are plenty of gang members running around with illegal weapons that they can do that to.


As long as you don't hit the cop then run away you probably won't get slammed to the ground on camera..... Then again that part didn't really hit the airwaves.


Alxone, I'm glad to know how wrong you think I am but I guarantee you I know the DPD way better then you do. I've read the case files in some of those high profile firings and personally know most of the officers involved in those cases. Over the years I've also never seen a case on a law abiding citizen for having an AK47. I have on the on the other hand seen a few involving gang members but those don't even get the assault weapon charge but get possession by a previous offender instead.

I'm not trying to say any of you are wrong and I agree 100% that the Denver gun laws are stupid. I think the case should be re head due to the 3-3 split and that this home rule crap is garbage. If state law allows for something Denver should have no right to ban or further restrict something. If I lived in Denver and ever was charged with possession of a Hi-Cap magazine I'd take it all the way up to the supreme court because I should not be restricted from something that is legal for someone that lives just outside the City and that person can possess as they pass though the city I'm not allowed to have them in. It's unconstitutional! I think that that recent house bill should have passed allowing concealed carry for anyone legally able to own a gun in this State. Then there would be no need to OC if you didn't have the cash for a CCW and it would be a big F you to Denver city council. I'm just trying to say that the majority of cops even DPD are not out to get you, your guns and those evil 30rd magazines.

In the city of denver for non police law enforcement, you do not need anything to carry an open fire arm because of the open carry law, unless there is a special law for mall security to carry guns I believe it is under open carry.

As myself and others have stated, Open Carry in Denver for Non-Law Enforcement is illegal under municipal ordinance which is allowed under Denver's "Home Rule" status and the Colorado Supreme Court Decision addressing this.
