if you kill someone breaking into your car you are guilty of murder.....chances are it was just someone lost....i dont think car thieves are scouting cars like gone in 60 seconds most are just targets of opportunity

Update- it's almost 2200 and still nothing... going to bed soon, I don't really think I have to worry because my CSP neighbor is home (she parked her cruiser here- I'll have to ask about that sometime)... Also I now realize I don't think they were scouting me because they'd have to be the dumbest criminals on earth. By the way, I wouldn't have drawn down unless it was a very last resort, I'd confront while carrying but wouldn't bring it to drawn unless I had no other options. And the whole letting them follow me home- the entire time they followed while suspicious, I thought it was coincidence, it happened to me once where I thought I was being tailed and the guy turned out to be one of my neighbors- he even unlocked and went into the apartment above and across from me. Damn you uncle sam for installing the hyper vigilance app on my brain!

Gun Control - seeking a Hardware solution for a Software problem...
exactly. he lied after the fact, he didn't call for a while, he didn't get a lawyer right away. He did lots and lots of things wrong that looked suspicious and still got off.
If you walked outside to go get something out of your vehicle that you left in it, and you saw these guys trying to jack your car and confronted them, then they didn't run and tried to escalate it and make you think you are in imminent fear for your life, I don't see how that wouldn't be justified.
For some people a car is all they have, maybe their way of life and it deserves to be protected. Insurance is nice to have but some people can't afford full coverage insurance. And like the people trying to steal a car, who may be down on their luck, the guy whose care they are trying to steal may be on the verge of losing everything but is trying to scrape by doing things the right way. In the end it is a personal decision to decide whether or not it is worth it. That is what life is made of.
The correct use of a gun when dealing with a common criminal
maybe I have too much tinfoil, but if I have a strong assumption I am being followed, I instantly start looking for ways out; a place to pull over and sit or a parking lot to go in to so I can watch what they are doing while driving.
I have had one guy follow me when I was a teenager....17 probably. he was riding my ass while I was in my dads truck and he was in a honda civic, I was heading home from a golf tournament. He got brake checked and then I drove 10 under for about a mile on a one lane road. He started following me even at speeds in excess of 90 mph. I pulled into a very nice neighborhood and he followed but I zipped out the back way and lost him. went and sat in a parking lot for a while and didn't see him for about 10 minutes then went home. i was prepared with my 3 iron and a pocketknife.
