So... it was night, a young female was alone in the passenger seat of a parked car, with its emergency lights flashing, parked down the street away from your house. An observant Dudley Dooright passerby, apparently concerned for the welfare of said female, stops and asks if she is okay. The whole incident then ends just as quickly as it begun, with a stunningly non-climactic realization that said female is, in fact, okay. Concerned citizen then goes about his way. The incident justifies the authoring of a thread dedicated to said incident. Multiple posters proceed to opine on how much Dudley deserved to have a gun screwed into his ear.

    Did I miss anything?

I would have to disagree. First off, assuming he really was a cop (which is not at all a stretch of the imagination... he saw something out-of-place and investigated, which is what cops do) he probably simply wanted to check if the girl was in need of assistance. The OP didn't specifically mention it, but I will venture a guess that his girlfriend is both young and attractive, which makes for a textbook "damsel in distress" scenario, and the guy simply wanted to help her.

It should be noted that PC has absolutely nothing to do with checking the welfare of a girl in a parked car with her emergency lights on. The police do not (and have not ever) needed PC in order to talk to somebody. Talking to somebody and attempting to ascertain their condition through a closed car door can clearly be problematic, so the guy opened the door to talk to her. Was that really so horrific? I dunno, I can see how it would be odd if the car window was already down, as opening the door would seem unnecessary. Altogether, as I alluded to in my first post, it seems like the guy was just checking on the girl. She was okay, so no harm no foul. No guns drawn, no tragic and senseless death, no lives forever destroyed by irrational momentary machismo. And heck, if the girl DID need help, the guy might just have been able to provide it to her. Seems like it all turned out okay.

It's pretty stupid to walk up to a strangers car and open it without trying to get their attention. You would be in the minority if it wouldn't startle you if a stranger opened your car door. I would go on high alert anyway. I don't think he was a cop. If he was he's not acting like most cops when they stop to check something out. They usually error on the side of caution. IE walk up to the drivers side window with their hand on their sidearm and stand back with a 2 bajillion lumen flashlight shining in your face.

Yes You did, not only you but everyone, ESPECIALLY the OP, missed one very important thing
WHY WAS A CAR DOOR UNLOCKED?????????????????????
NEVER have any door unlocked unless it is for entering or exiting the vehicle

    unless Someone is taunting you

    I forgot his name lol.

Second Mistake was not contacting the LE ASAP after the encounter. Calling today for something that "happened" yesterday does not work. The GF's and your skills are weak and need to be reviewed together to avoid an incident from happening again.

Kinda strange, door is usually locked until I get to her car but last night she left it unlock. Just curious why he can't tap the window to get her attention instead of opening the door and startling her. I wouldn't have mind if he did this in his uniform if indeed he was a cop.
