You laugh but I watched a guy ND a .45 into his own leg a couple years ago in a 3-gun competition re-holstering during a transition. The guy happened to be an NRA certified instructor, local LEO w/SWAT designation, range owner, competition RO and all around bad ass who had been shooting and competing many years. The point is, no matter how much experience you have you're still 'playing' with a deadly weapon and a moment of carelessness can cost someone their life... regardless of how experienced you are.

Yeah, I don't attend those competitions any longer. I hear now they adhere to the normal 3-gun type rules where firearms are tabled before proceeding. The crazy part is I was up after him and was standing about 5' back and to the right of him as he competed trying to see how he ran the course and it all took place right in front of me. He tried to blame a faulty serpa holster but I saw his booger picker inside the trigger guard when he attempted to cram it all into the holster. He did it. Not the holster. So after attending to his wounds and seeing him off to the hospital in one of the police cruisers that happened to be attending it was my turn to compete. I ran the course like a boss but after I had some time to think I decided I didn't want to be within range of anything those folks put on.
