    I take many foreigners/recently naturalized friends to gun ranges. In my experience, public or indoor range where there are plenty of other normal folks there are the best. Last thing you need is to make target shooting look as 'exclusive' or out of norm by taking him/her to a private and quiet range.

    My experience has been much different, I've always had miles of BLM out my back door until moving to Denver. I appreciate your thoughtfulness.
