Hey LEOs... Duty gun?

Too funny... I was issued a Sig P228 (M11), before that a Beretta 92FS (M9). Couldn't stand the M9. Didn't like the M11 either, but I had no other options so I practiced with it regularly. I was shooting Glocks competitively at the same time and preferred them.

The OP question at it's roots doesn't really matter. Whatever pistol, it's practicing with it that matters more.

Let me guess.... you were .mil? I didn't like the M9 either.
And I already practice the hell out of my Glock now... so maybe that will be the best, but I'd kind of rather have a 9mm since it's about $30 cheaper for bulk at Bass Pro (250rnds for IIRC $60something).

Since finances (or lack thereof) is one of your frequent complaints here, shouldn't you be more concerned with getting on with Jeffco before buying and trying to become an "expert" with whatever duty weapon you might be carrying?

On another note...fundamentals are fundamentals. Either you have them or you dont; you can shoot or you can't. Glock vs Sig doesn't matter much there other than difference in grip angle. Everything thing else is all personal preference and some presentation practice. I would worry about other skills you will need immediately before what pistol, you will be carrying.

Finances are a problem of the past- I'm good now since moving out of my outrageously expensive apartment. And I'd want to be the best shot I can be with a pistol before getting on a department (something I wish I had done with AR platforms before going into the Army) so I can better my chances of graduating as high as possible in my class.

Then you better hit the books rather than the range. You are sounding pretty ignorant of the realities of the job, the academy, and the expectations of law enforcement.

You want to graduate at the top of the academy class? Read up on Constitutional Law, read and memorize as much as you can of Title 18 and Title 42 in the C.R.S., the Criminal Procedure Code, Criminal Rules/Constitutions, Criminal Procedure Guidelines and officer field manual within the Colorado Peace Officers Handbook. The range consists of a couple of days of a 12-15 week academy.

I noticed the same with the army, a lot of "hunters" thinking they were top shit but would bring bad habits to the range whereas pvt.joeschmo who's never fired a gun in his life learns the fundamentals and shoots better overall.

Actually that's not the first time I heard that advice, and I intend to utilize that advice- so you can sit down now - I'm already quite a good writer from what people have already told me, and one of my deputy buddies said that is one of the biggest parts of the job and a good way to stay on supervisor and other superior's good list is being able to write a clear, coherent, and concise report every time, and everything they do has to be written in a report.
