    Default Glock Trigger

Precursor: Before I get into this, let it be known that I do NOT care for your opinion about what weight of trigger pull is "unsafe" for daily carry and should only be a " range" or "competition" weight...I dont give a damn for it...it's a bunch of bullshit and Weapons dont ND due to trigger pull weight or modifications (**unless improper installation occurs**) they ND due to the NEGLIGENCE of the Owner. (My Daily Carry gun is an M&P at 3.27lbs pull and Yes I carry it chambered, and NO I haven't ever had a Negligent Discharge)

I'm not trying to kick the dead horse, but I also didn't want to bump the 3.5lb connector thread due to the slightly different relation of topic.

Regardless, I have a couple brand new Gen 4 Glock 19's waiting for me at my local gun store, and yes...I'm already planning to F**K with it. What can I say, I cant leave shit alone...

Either way, I see a lot of options for Glock's as far as triggers, springs, barrels, etc. And I'm trying to determine what I want to do.

I hear a lot of talk about different poundage connectors, I understand there is an 8lbs, a stock one, and then a 3.5lbs connector, and from what I understand it simply adjusts how the trigger bar makes contact.

I have detailed stripped few Glock's in the past, just not a Gen 4, I'm sure the internal components are very similar..

Moving on, here are some questions and observations I've made..

I find it interesting ho similar and yet dissimilar parts are from my M&P to the Glock, mostly what I'm referring to here is what Smith Refers to as the "Striker Block" Glock refers to as the "Safety block" or something...

In the M&P This striker block was beveled and polished to change how the trigger bar makes contact with it to help smooth out the action...I'm curious as to if this is the same concept with the Glock...I understand its purpose and I understand why It is done in the M&P, but would this same premise apply to the G19?

    Reference:

Next is all the different spring options, The M&P I didn't change a whole lot of the springs, just the Sear Spring and trigger return spring, then with the glock I see a lot of different options, does anybody have any knowledge or feedback on different products and how they performed in their weapons? Or perhaps brands or particular products to avoid and why you feel that way?

The 3.5lb connector is too light for EDC.

ok. Now that the obligatory antagoniziton is out of the way... The striker block on the glock doesn't seem to be as gritty as te stock block on the M&P. After looking at both, I think it is due to geometry changes on the connector. You could probably have some small gains there, but the gain is minimal enough that no companies want to produce such a replacement part without the demand.

Do the .25 cent trigger job and a ghost rocket trigger kit. I changed out all my springs to the ones that come in the kit. I dont have a trigger guage but would say its under 3.5lbs with no overtravel! Cheap too...$40

I fired another members Glock and it had one of the nicest triggers I have ever felt on a Glock. I can't remember all of the details, but I do know he had the striker block plunger thingy rounded off and polished.

    Good insight in the OP.

Yes, doming the safety plunger on the Glock does help some, mostly in being able to reduce take-up. There are several comanies that make a domed safety plunger. There are guys you can find who also sell modified and recoated stock plungers. A lighter spring here also helps a little. Reduction of the striker spring weight is similar in effect as on the M&P, but if you don't use a reduced weight striker, you may end up with light strikes. The trigger spring is the opposite as in going heavier reduces the trigger pull weight.

As far as the connector, good insight there as well, but they are not all the same. The feel...spongier, crisper is also affected by the brand of 3.5 pound connecotors.

You can use a 3.5 pound connector with a NY trigger spring and get almost a revolver feel instead of the two stage feel or going towards a single stage pull. There are several guys that run NY trigger springs with Ghost connectors and a domed plunger with a tuned trigger pull that ends up feeling close to a Kahr, but not quite.

For what it's worth, I tried the NY spring thingy with a 3.5# connector and hated it. Seemed the "take up" was way too stiff for my liking.

Dumb question maybe, but I'm not sure if I fully understand "light strikes" you saying that their isn't enough force behind the striker to hit the primer adequately to cook off the round?

And as far a brands, could you name a few that I should avoid? I'm looking at the Ghost Rocket 3.5lbs Connector.

My current plans for the gun is quite simple, Ghost Rocket 3.5lbs Connector and a "$0.25 Trigger job"

I'll look into the domed striker block (sorry if wrong terminology for the glock...its an M&P habit) however I might just purchase a replacement stock one and try my hand at modifying it myself. Anyone have a DIY/Info or link to somebody who has modified this part

I'm looking for around 3.5lbs overall pull weight, and to keep it smooth, crisp break, minimal over travel and take-up and a good reset.

I hate to keep using this as a reference, but I absolutely loved the Trigger on my XDm...It spoiled me.

My M&P has just about the best trigger I've ever felt on a polymer pistol...but for what's in it...it better. ha. (if anyone wants to meet at the range some day and get some rounds through it I'd be happy to meet up to get opinions)

Now you have me curious. What do you have in your M&P?

Ray, I don't like the modified NY either.

NightCat, yes, reduced striker spring and full mass striker results in not enough energy to ignite some primers reliably. Um, the Ghost Rocket is one I don't particularly like. The ZEV race connector is pretty good. The domed safety plunger does not help a ton with weight, but allows you to take out a little more take-up. You will want an overtravel and pretravel pin, block or screw in the housing as that is the most reliable way to take out the length of the total pull.

J, I have a APEX ram and competition spring kit in my M&P, tuned by a local Pro. I spent enough time fidling with Glock triggers.

The Glock trigger will never be as good as the M&P or the XDm. I ran Glocks for 20 years...now have M&Ps.

So, what would be a good combination then to achieve a over all pull weight of 3.5 lbs and keep a smooth action?

@ J - I'm not sure who you were asking about their M&P, but here's whats in mine..
    - APEX:
    Duty Carry Action Enhancement kit
    > Ultimate Striker Block
    > Striker block spring
    > Hard Sear
    > Sear Spring
    - APEX Reset Assist Mechanism
    - APEX AEK Trigger

I'm running the DCAEK Sear Spring with the AEK, brings pull to low 3lbs.

Also polished Sear and trigger bar.
