You can only charge so much before people quit paying for the privilege of buying overpriced merchandise.
Thank you.
Aw, come on now, it’s been at least a year since they had one. They are doing pretty good in that Dept. But the raising of the entry fee and table prices is what is going to kill them. You can only charge so much before people quit paying for the privilege of buying overpriced merchandise.
I see it more as an entry fee to a gun museum or library.

This^^ I usually go with the main intention of looking around. Lots of cool stuff usually
I haven't bought any actual guns at a gun show since the Crossroads show out at the hotel in Aurora...Most often, I see them at $retail++, and I can find better deals at the LGS, with a far lower "yayhoo factor"...
Yep. The gun shows around here are pretty lame. Not sure I?ve ever bought a firearm at a show in Colorado. Bought almost exclusively from the gun shows in Houston back in the 1990?s and hardly bought from actual gun stores back then. Those shows had great selections, lots of hard to find stuff, and fairly decent prices.
You can imagine my disappointment the first time I hit up one of the Denver shows.

I miss the good old days when gun shows were an event myself and several friends went to followed by a good lunch together and laughs. And usually at least one of us found a good deal that day.

You can still do that, but the laughs are at the show and the good deals are at Denny's.
The shows they had at the Astro Hall (next to the Astrodome) were so big you almost had to go both days to see everything. Even the shows at the George R. Brown convention center were way better than the Tanner shows. There was a smaller show in Spring, Texas that I think they had once a month and I could always find cool stuff and great deals there.

The 90's shows were way better here too. Tons of ex-LEO wheelguns, cool military surplus, and fewer stupid laws.
You are correct Richard. I was holding back on his identifying info until I found out if that was who brutal was talking about.
Quick side story. I did one gun show a year (in my home town) from 2010 - 2016, when they stopped having it. It was a decent small town show, $25 tables and my parents still live there. My dad enjoyed working the tables with me, and I got to see a lot of folks from my earlier years over the course of the shows. In 2010 (my first time "behind" the tables) Eldon and his wife set up at the same show. I had amassed a sizable cache of ammo prior to the show just before things really started to go south. Much to my surprise, about mid-day Saturday Eldon stopped by my single table and inquired about my set-up, inventory, pricing, etc. He ended up writing me a check for around $900 and put a nice dent in my table. A nice guy that was a pleasure to deal with, and I must say I do believe that that firmly convinced me that I wold go back the next year and do 2 tables.
Kind of rambling on, but that's my gun show story as it relates to Eldon.
Eldon is alright. I always enjoy talking to him. a couple years ago he had a 3 inch Smith 66-2 that I was looking at and stupidly put back b/c I was looking for something else. My friend got it for a really good price, I still kick myself for not grabbing it.

Just got back. I surprisingly didn't hear a single taser zap, so there's a plus. Tons of essential oil, jewelry, candy, garbage. Fudds wanting way too much for fudd related stuff. Plethora of AR junk at a premium. Few empty tables around too, which was surprising.

Seriously. Back in the day I used to stuff $1K-$2K in my pocket when I went in case I found something really cool or a really good deal on something. Almost always went home with all of my cash.
Went this morning with about $80 and figured for sure since I didn?t bring cash I would find something that called out to me.
Nope.

There's an older guy that always sets up, has a nice selection of S&W wheelies along with some other interesting items. We've done some dealing before and we treated each other very fair. Wanted to go today to see if maybe my M&P 2.0 might tempt him but got hung up at Sunday coffee with friends and have too much other stuff to get done today. Sigh, maybe at the next one.

Probably when he had a full head of hair that was other than gray . He's been there since the early 80's .
Then there is or was a guy named Mick.
Only guy i know who insisted the original USGI mags he had were .mil bring backs, why he was selling them for $50 ea.
I told him for that price he should have had a better story. Since it was my partners table he purchased all them from, for $20 each.

Finally made it to the show: fewer tables it seemed, more junk jewelry, pot laced honey ("this has cured millions from opiod addiction. Get educated!"), miracle ointments, new window sellers. I went for Beretta M9 mags, look for anything interesting. Saw/Wanted a Steyr S40, S&W99, older Ber 92FS, S&W 357PD in .41mag. Ended up w a derringer frame. ...still cheaper than a strip joint!

On the left kind of in the middle, heavy set with glasses and really in to Smiths-we had done some horse trading and were both happy, a nice guy who also sets up at the Collector's show. I think I know the guy you're talking about. If it's the same guy he bought a Uberti/Cimarron Arms SAA from me a couple years ago. Tried to trade for a Smith but he wanted a lot of cash on my end, just went for the straight out sale.

Some vendor had a ND while I was there today.
I was on the other side of the room, so don't know the details, but a ND none the less.
From the announcements, it appears a firearm was not zip tied, loaded and the customer picked it up, pulled the trigger and bam.
No injuries reported that I knew of.
As far a selection, seemed typical of the shows I've been to down here, although I haven't been to many recently.
Lots of knives for sale, several tables of those.

I appreciate that purchase!
I had several people come by and show me their "finds" at the show.
A few rare items and a couple of things that are hard to find that were well priced.
A lot of out of state customers came thru that were in town for the MJ growers show.

I don't use, dont care who uses, just curious of dealer liability if any.

I overheard a dealer complaining to the show promoter about the people reeking of pot and wanting to handle the firearms on his tables.
He had to keep telling those people to leave his tables and explained that he wasn't legally able (by Federal law) to sell them a firearm.
I have read the ATF guidance (an open letter to dealers published in 2011)

A few years ago I was at Machine Gun Tours making up a purchase. A kid was waiting for his background check to be processed and decided to go to his car and smoke some weed. He came back in and stunk up the store. The owner Allen had a field day with the idiot. Lets just say he did not get his money back for the background check and was ridiculed with no mercy.
It was quite funny and no, he did not get to purchase a firearm that day.
Even if it's legal, I don't think I'd take issue with the gun store declining to go forward with the background check, like in the example above. Having an FFL is serious and should be treated as such. Same as if someone was drunk at the time.

Understandably. yet thousands of people are walking around like zombies from the drugs their docs prescribe. Crazy isn't it . Can't write a script for weed and own a gun, so here's 25 morphine tablets

Is their a better day/time to go? Sat vs Sun? Morning vs Afternoon?
Ok, they need to change there ad.
On 93.7 they something close to this : instead of buying from the internet, handle your new gun while you use your negotiation skills to get the best price.
Not a direct quote but very close.

New Year Update From That Tanner Gun Show
Tanner Gun Show would like to wish everyone a happy New Year.
To say we are frustrated is probably an understatement, a couple of our neighboring states have allowed several thousand person gun shows without any health consequences.
We petitioned appropriate health officials with several ideas like spreading vendors out in the entirety of the Denver Mart, rope off part of the parking lot, and have some vendors outside or even a completely outdoor event but each time local authorities insist on restrictions which make a show impossible.
We pursued litigation but that would take months with significant legal fees, unfortunately, we wait and cut our operating costs in order to survive.
Tanner Gun Show will be back providing an essential resource bigger and better than ever, hopefully, sooner rather than later as we truly miss our customers and world-class vendors.
Connect With Us And Stay Up-To-Date
We plan to communicate in a variety of ways as we organize our next round of shows.
In addition to email, we are encouraging everyone to like our Facebook and Instagram pages to stay informed as changes happen quickly.

I wonder if they could do a little more scaled down version. Basically have a guy counting heads at the door and allow up to the max capactiy. One person leaves they let another in. Petition the City / State to have an allowance for a large audience based on sq footage of the building. Maybe extend the show an extra day and longer hours to filter people through. Ask people to limit their time inside to an hour so they can let the next group of people in. It sucks. I don't think it's right but I think we have to do SOMETHING and even if we have to start a little smaller than usual we can get things rolling again. We can't give up.
For the record, I work in the event industry and have been a part of hundreds of events across the country including many in Colorado at various facilities. This isn't unique to Colorado or the gun show industry. It's killing the entire expo and event industry in America equally so while I know many in our local government aren't sad about how it's effecting the gun shows specifically, it is literally EVERY event that's going through the same crap here and we are not being singled out.

I have to say that this past TANNER show at the Penrose Event center drew the biggest crowd of any show I have set up at in a very, very long time.
There was a long line stretching up the hill when the show opened at 3PM on Friday afternoon.
The number of customers we saw on Saturday wore the 2 of us out!
Sunday felt like a good Saturday at the Denver Merchandise mart.

I noted lots of ammo on tables, lots of AR stuff, lots of new guns.
I saw a post WWII MAS-36 for $875 and said "no" to myself.
Same seller had a Sauer 38 pistol which seemed like a good gun and fairly priced.
It was a regular tempo gun show for us, sold slings, holsters and a couple of bayonets.
I had a few good chats with some regular friends and made a few new ones.

Vendors, we have an exciting ONE TIME event next weekend at the Grizzly Rose August 13-15th! We will have 200 tables inside, then we are fencing in their back parking lot putting a tent overhead, and 400 tables outside. Outside is where most of the action will be and where we still have availability but bring a battery as power will be a challenge for outside tables. We currently have 39 billboards around Denver advertising the first show so close to Denver in over two years. The outside tables will be secure, along with fencing all around we will have police lighting to ensure visibility for our two guards patrolling all night long.
As you can imagine tents, our massive marketing campaign and venue rent are very expensive so inside tables are $100, outside tables are $80 and power is $50 for this show only. Inside tables can start setting up Thursday, we will not have an overnight guard but will deadbolt lock the doors with an alarm system. Outside tables can start setting up Friday at 8am. The southern and northernmost tent will have a sidewall to block the wind but the rest of it will be an open marketplace for gun and ammo with the best vendors in the west and if online ticket sales are any indication this is going to be a monster show. We have stuck our necks out there pretty far on this show so thank you very much for your patience and support.

I stopped by Saturday, I was hoping to get some of those I DID THAT stickers, or a T shirt that shows how Biden is sniffing Idaho (check the map, you can't unsee it, you're welcome). I got hit on and pawed by a 70 year old, stroke surviving woman selling jewelry so I went home and cried in the shower.
Is the Aurora show any better than the Pueblo, Denver and Colorado Springs shows. In and out in 20 minutes and disappointing. I'm going to Tulsa for the shows now.

Because the show are in different areas, they all have different venders, different selections. Not all venders but enough to make the shows unique. It just depends what you're looking for.
Just my 2%......... the Colorado shows are pretty bad.
Yeah, different areas have a FEW different vendors.......... but 97-99% are the same..............
(In case my whining isn't clear, I stopped going about 4yrs ago....... Went to that Aurora show last month? and was depressed, same crap)
Tulsa IS NICE and usually a very good show for me.

Tanner Gun Show this weekend?
There has got to be a way to make a better living than gun show after gun show?
Perhaps do an online gun show?
Perhaps start a tiktok/twitch channel about how knowledgeable you are about guns, and how you can help people find the guns they desire?

There is a TANNER Gun Show this weekend here in Colorado Springs, at the Event Center at Palmer Park and Academy Blvd.
I have seen the billboards up and a bunch of other advertising.
Gloria and I will have our tables near the entrance.
I hope to see some of our regular customers and some new faces!
Richard
Wish i could go. I'm still afraid of crowds. We have so many friends with the virus. Vaccinated have milder symptoms, but are still sick. I dont want that, even though, i could use some things from the show.
Hope the show goes well.

The show was busy, a big crowd on Saturday.
I saw quite a few customers and a few dealers wearing masks, not cloth ones either.
I wonder if Sunday will have a lot of people in attendance?

This was just a short. I suspect he will post soon.
Check out Life With O.B.
He visits all the shows in CO.
Gives you an idea of what?s out there.
I bumped into him yesterday and said hello.
I am going to say something that is meme worthy - so do they have beef jerky along with Mountain Man Nut & Fruit Co?
Don't get me wrong, there are a few parts and what not that I would like - if the price is just "ok". And if I can find the right box or three of ammo, it would be worth the price.
But I could sure use some good quality trail mix for work.
Side-tracking the thread a little.
Do any of you know if vendors at the gun shows still accept Colorado Drivers Licenses with the current address written or labelled on the back of the ID as proof of address when purchasing a firearm? Colorado DMV often advises people to print out a label with their new address when they move vs issuing a new ID. Last time I attended a show vendors would not only accept them, but would sometimes hand them a permanent marker or bLank label so the could make a change. I may be wrong, but I believe ATF’s position is that someone just writing an address on their ID is not valid proof of residence.
Do they still accept them and is it legal per ATF?

Was that in Colorado? Lots of freedom capacity magazines in those handguns. The emperor won't be too happy.

TANNER Gun show this weekend here in Colorado Springs.
NO masks, NO metal detectors, bring in your unloaded guns, bring cash, buy stuff!
Gloria and I will be there with a few new things on our tables.
I hope to see some forum members attend.

I've been in that situation a few times, and it seems if I had a couple of other documents. ATF stance: https://www.atf.gov/firearms/qa/what-form-identification-must-licensee-obtain-transferee-firearm
Essentially it seems I needed some other government issued document with my name and address in addition to the license (so something with your picture, and evidence of your current address)...if I recall I ended up using auto registration along with DL.
