Thanks.
I guess I?m going to keep holding off on buying any firearms right now.
All of the really good shops to deal with are thirty miles south through the heart of Denver and it?s lovely traffic. Making that crappy drive once to go pick something up isn?t the worst thing but making the trip down and forking over cash and filling out the paperwork only to leave empty handed and then make another trip back in a day or two just has zero appeal to me.
I hear you. Took the kids to Frank the Pizza King in Englewood yesterday for lunch and my God it was a disaster in the middle of the day.
Yeah. The most direct route to Ark Tactical from my house is 28 miles. I?ve made it there in 35 to 40 minutes a few times but that?s pretty rare. It?s typically a 45 to 55 minute drive with traffic and once it took me nearly an hour and a half to go that 28 miles thanks to road construction and an accident.

Frank the Pizza King??? Oh man the last time I was there was 1986!! I have other pizza places I frequent. How was it?
I sold a gun last Saturday, did the transfer at Ark. Haven’t heard yet from the buyer if he picked it up.

It's good. Franks has always been one of my favorites. It's the large amount of quality toppings and thinner crust that isn't as hard as a cracker that I love

Understand completely, I frequent the places I have dealt with lately, otherwise it would be the same for me. It took me almost 3 hours to get to Ark when I went there a while back, great guys, but I could not spend much time there since I had to drive back.

Man, I drove past iFrank's this evening going home! Almost stopped but it looked too busy, ordered a large pep pie from Big Bill's instead LOL (my favorite for a long time). Sorry for the food drift!

Either way I'm irritated....I have a ton of gift cards (I pay everything with a credit card, which I pay off for points) and I have money to spend....there's nothing I need, just a few wants, but those aren't even available.

Or maybe it?s a way of stimulating the economy?
I?m likely to spend more money on two trips to the gun store than I am on one trip.

Any new info on wait times?
If you would have purchased what you wanted a week ago, you'd have it already. How is waiting for times to go down any different than just waiting for what you bought?
Friend bought pistol yesterday. Pickup on Saturday allegedly.

I don't know what I want...I just want to spend money but not wait...geez
If you don't know what you want, then wait time should not be a concern. Could move either way by the time you decide. Or just stay as it has been........2 to 4 days.

I waited 6 months for my latest tax stamp approval to come through only to find out that I now have to wait a few more days another round of back ground checks. Now how much since does that make? Stamp arrived yesterday and I was told it might be Thursday by the time I get the phone call to come get my suppressor. System is messed up...

If you have a tax stamp you only need to fill out the 4473. No need to run it through CBI.

I'm reaching out to see if there are any FFL's here that are based in the Ft Collins area that will handle a private transfer between forum members.
If not, any suggestions for reasonably priced FFL's you have had good experience with in that area?
Liberty is currently charging $40, and I was hoping to do it for a bit less.
Thanks

3-4 hours is not bad.
I am going to ARK tomorrow to sell my firearm. Later this week, I need to go to USA Liberty in Ft Coillins to finally buy a CZ.
I would dislike to go to Ft Collins twice.
What time are you going to Ark? I'm thinking about heading down there to see if they can get me a new hunting rifle with enough time for me to set it up before first rifle.
I want to switch to 6.5 Creedmoor and have a threaded barrel. I like Savage stuff, and people recommend Bergara.
I weighed my Savage Axis in .308 with Vortex Diamondback scope, Boyd's thumbhole wood stock, and bi-pod tonight right at 10lbs.
The Bergara stuff seems like it all starts at $2k and all weigh at least 9lbs. I can get a Savage Axis II for $500. However, for $1,500 I can get a Savage Ultralight with threaded barrel that weighs under 6lbs. That's extremely attractive to me since I want put my heavy can on the end.
More than I want to spend (at the moment), especially since I'd buy the same scope to go with it, and I want to upgrade my binos. But it'd get me a fully set up back up rifle (what I have now) that I can let new hunters use. I'm bringing my cousin with me for first rifle and it'd be great to just hand him my already set up rifle with dope chart on the lens cap and everything.
Oh yeah, I weighed my muzzle loader with sling at exactly 7lbs and it is very comfortable to carry.
What time are you going to Ark? I'm thinking about heading down there to see if they can get me a new hunting rifle with enough time for me to set it up before first rifle.
PM incoming.
Went down to Ark and ordered stuff. Nice to see MrPrena for the first time in at least two years. They said they've been cruising around 24 hours on background checks.
I swung by Sportsman's (Thornton) on the way and there was a big line at the gun counter and still the most empty shelves I've ever seen for ammo.
Nice seeing you again!
I did the same thing. I went to Sportsmans' while on the way home. No handgun ammo at all.
I called USA Liberty around 4pm, and they told me that it can vary 4 to 24 hours on Wed. It will be a 2 trips to Ft Collins.
22 hr wait as of 4pm.
I gotta go to Ft Collins again tomorrow.

Back up to about 24 hrs according to the guys at Ark this afternoon.
My daughter snagged the blaster I wanted so I had to spend more money for 2nd choice and she will only have to drive 10-15mins to pick hers up, my drive is 1 1/2hrs.
Ark called me this afternoon, going in tomorrow.
I went to ARK again.
Buyer wanted to transfer at a Bluecore, but they do not accept any firearm from non-FFL seller. Buyer and I drove to Ark, and did a transfer. As of 3:45pm, employees said it was about 24 hours.
I might need to go to a gun store again for transfer this week (wed or thurs).
Any ideas how long now? I assume not too long, because most of big box stores are bare.

Can’t say I’m surprised, Brass... the gun policy on the Biden/Harris website is cause for alarm.... as is the lunacy going on with the election.

There is no sense to be made of the variances in wait times, nor the order in which people are accepted. To me it seems that the wait time is being purposefully kept high, as very few people get cleared per day, as compared to the number entered.
I assume they clear about 800 queue per day by looking at their wait time.
I think 1 person can clear about 300ish queue per day. I remember background wait time was about 2-5minutes when there were no queue.
I thought they are going to hire more people and cross train by raising $0 --> $6 ----> $10.50.

You are not allowed to fill out the 4473 remotely as the dealer has to verify you via your driver's license and that you filled out the form.
Dealers are allowed to meet and deliver firearms outside as along as it is at the premises address listed on the FFL license and does not violate any local laws.

So, for a private transfer, does the FFL keep the firearm being transferred and do both parties come back?
Or, does just the buyer come back?
So, for a private transfer, does the FFL keep the firearm being transferred and do both parties come back?

Probably just depends on how the FFL handles it. There are no real rules in place.
When I?ve done them in the past the FFL usually takes possession of the firearm from me and enters it into their book. After that, I?m pretty much done as the seller because technically the FFL sort of owns it since they took possession of it from me. Once the buyer passes his background check they will release it to them.
I?ve done deals where the seller and I couldn?t meet up for the deal. I?ve dropped off my firearm with the FFL and went home. A day or two later the buyer goes into the FFL and does the background check and picks it up.

It's up to the FFL. Some FFL's don't want the liability of holding onto something that is someone else's property, and I get that. I do know that Ark Tactical will hold onto the firearm so only the buyer needs to come back. Once the BGC is initiated, the seller pays the buyer, firearm is turned over to Ark and the seller walks away.
I suppose if the BGC came back with a denial the seller would get a call from Ark telling him to come pick up his firearm and paying back the buyer would be between the seller and the buyer. I've never had an incident where a BGC was denied so I don't know.
Damage Factory does not hold the firearm so both the buyer and seller have to come back which IMO is a hassle.

Last week Damage Factory held on to the firearm. You might want to call them

Its really up to the FFL if the firearm is kept by the dealer. IF it is kept by the dealer and the buyer's BGC came back as denied, the FFL has to conduct a BGC on the original owner in order to transfer it back to him. If the owner keeps the firearm and comes back after the buyer's BGC came back G2G, then the FFL takes possession of firearms and transfers to new owner.
Once the BGC is initiated, the seller pays the buyer
That?s not how I roll but next time you?re selling something I?d probably be interested. You know. Since you?ll be paying me for what you?re selling.

Yep.. thats how it works. If the buyer gets denied, not my problem. I got my money and the gun is technically property of the FFL. It would be up to the buyer to clear up whatever caused the denial. If they can't, then the FFL & buyer can workout a deal to sell the firearm or whatever. But as soon as I accept payment, deal is done, no refunds.

I would buy a lot more stuff if I got paid for it.

Isn't that what Rich Wyatt got into trouble for, taking payment without delivering any product?
Depends on which ffl , they have little different policies mentioned on this thread.
I did a gunsforeveryone transfer around April or may 2020 and they told buyer that they need to pay seller. If background doesn't pass,it is upto the ffl and the buyer to coordinate it. Seller is good to go.
Other ffl has slightly different policies.
However I would like to get compensated for the background fee and the gas money at least, if buyer doesn't pass the background check.
As for purchasing it from the store, it is same as usual. Pay background and wait. Upon pickup,I pay for the firearm.
ETA: as a seller , make sure to get paid before dropping it off to ffl. If that is a problem for buyer or ffl,it is NO GO.

Well, that was one of many things. But he also charged full price, then refused a refund if there was an issue with the background check.
What I miss is being able to start the bgc while the gun was being shipped to the shop so when it arrived I'd just have to go in, pick it up and be on my way. My most recent was supposed to be delivered today, 1/22, but of course due to shipping backlog I'm hoping it'll come in on 1/23 so I can go fill out the form and hopefully pick it up before next weekend.

well, that's not a federal crime, nor what he was charged with. frankly, i'm not sure that's a crime at all. However, none of that is relevant to the purpose of this thread--background check times.

I, for one, would not prepay for a firearm. I will pay when it is my hot lil hands
The way we're doing it at Iron Horse Armory is you put a deposit down for the total price of said firearm + tax. "IF" you come back denied, the only thing we keep is the $10.50 for the background check as we have to pay that to the state whether you pass or fail. The deposit is returned to the customer and then we release the firearm back to the shelf for the next customer. I think that's a pretty fair way to go about it. Another thing that helps with is when you come in to pick up the firearm on a later date, you just have to re-sign the 4473 and your out the door.

Regarding Private Party transfers, at Firing Line we do not take possession of the gun until the "buyer" passes the background check. Then both parties come back in, we put the gun in the books, give it a log number, then one of the 2 parties pays the transfer fee, the buyer re-certifies the 4473 and you're out. If there are hi-caps involved in the transfer we tell the 2 parties it is not legal for us to sell or transfer those hi-caps, and to do what they feel with those mags, out from under our roof.

After a bit of difficulty getting everything sorted, Big R in Thornton. All said and done, their lack of responsiveness delayed the deal by about a week.
My item should be delivered Tuesday, hope I can get in tomorrow to submit the bgc so hopefully can pick it up Saturday. The usps attempted delivery today though the shop is closed Sun/Mon. I'd expect the carrier would know that but oh well. Fingers crossed on the wait for the bgc to clear.

According to CBI, Instachecks in Colorado involve interactions with eight federal, state and local databases rather than just NICS, and it's likely that they aren't linked to accept a single query.

I would suspect several causes for the decrease:
- Many of the potential buyers in this climate have already made a purchase or purchases.
- The White House has been pretty quiet so far on the gun control front. No EO's banning import of certain firearms, mags or ammo. No public rhetoric. Obviously that can change instantly.
Maybe folks are waiting for the next Covid relief gun bonus checks? Again. And again. And.....

I had something come in last week and it took three days. I had something come in Monday and it took three minutes. Go figure.
That means either CBI suddenly became vastly more efficient, or demand fell off a cliff.
I'm guessing it's not the former.

About an hour and a half for me today.
Hope it doesn’t get longer any time soon, selling a gun Saturday.
When demand spikes I do believe CBI probably brings in on call and hires more. Otherwise it could leas to untenable situations that would collapse their own system and perpetuate a snowball of panic. Imagine if wait times were 30 days, for instance. There would be a strong movement to return to NICS. And allllllll that money that we know is always so responsibly spent would vanish from our system.
