I usually go for the Great Divide Hibernation...store was out and gave this a try. This isn't bad...needs to warm up a bit or the alcohol taste is a bit hot. Not very high abv but not as soft and rounded as I remember

For you vodka drinkers who haven't tried Dripping Springs vodka, do yourself a favor and pick up a bottle. And while you're at it, try a bottle of Dripping Springs Traditional Gin. Both are outstanding. They make two gins...the Traditional at 95 proof and Artisan at 85 proof. I prefer the Traditional...tastes more like a good Bombay botanical.

I've noticed this distillery/tasting room open near my house recently. Like the other businesses in Adams County, they got shut down right after opening. They are open again. The regular bourbon has a pretty smoky flavor profile that I like a lot.

Not a great picture, but the distillery is called Molly Brown. I met the owner and he basically built the entire distillery himself, from the stuff in the back to the decor in the tasting room. Pretty cool guy. The bar top is a main beam from a Gander Mountain up in Wyoming, and the backdrop of the bar and the booths are from the Briarwood in Golden after they closed down.

So, I'm not a big fan of super peaty flavor, and you could smell this Ardbeg Blaaack from across the room. Only the "room" was the backyard where we were watching a movie tonight. I poured it, and didn't take a drink for a good 10 minutes because I was so nervous. It is peaty, but it's VERY smooth. I've been guilty of pounding through "sipping" whiskey before, but not this stuff. I was able to enjoy my few finger pour for over an hour. It was quite the experience. I'd recommend this scotch to the expert scotch drinker.

I did notice on the receipt that they seem to have charged me more ($20 more) than the listed price. I wonder if they'll do anything about it. Probably not.

I agree it’s heavily peated, Irving. That’s what Ardbeg is most widely known for. Sipping is a must. I usually spirt a touch of water in mine, about the minimum amount one can get from the fridge water dispenser, is enough. Eating a snack with it can change the experience too. The flavors do seem to change over time the longer it takes to finish. Sorry to hear they up charged you though.

Spring is in the air here in the Grand Valley and I have a hankering to make some blackberry jam wine. I used to make a lot of fruit wines but haven't for several years so I needed to review recipes and procedures. I will make a 5 gallon batch and need 4 pounds of jam per gallon so I have to buy more jam. Interesting that 9 years ago jam was sold in 18 oz. jars but now it's in 13 oz. jars. Inflation deflation.

To lubricate my reacquaintance with wine making I took a chance and opened a bottle of Peach Riesling wine that I made in 2012. It's been stored in a wine cooler but 9 years is a long time for most wines to still be drinkable. What a surprise that it's still light and fruity with no sign of oxidation! Very nice. This was made from fresh peaches off our trees and Riesling grapes from a friend's vineyard.

The prettiest wine I ever made was Cranberry Apple from fresh fruit. It was a beautiful translucent orange and one of my favorite fruit wines. One of the blackberry jam wines I made began refermenting in the bottle the following spring, not enough to break bottles but perfectly effervescent like a blackberry champagne.

Ha! That's actually our front view from the dining and living rooms. Mount Garfield, Mount Lincoln and the bookcliffs in the background. We have no lawn but native grassland and a brush pile of apple tree branches full of birds including Gambel's Quail right now.

It's a relief to get out of the mountains where we recently had 56" of snow over 12 days.

Green: Special Reserve most common
Red: Antique 107 not common
Black: 12yr hard to find
Yellow: CYPB (Create your perfect bourbon) very hard to find.
Orange: very very hard to find
Blue: Full Proof very very very hard to find.

39.99 is a decent price, msrp is 23.99 for Weller Special Reserve. I would not hesitate at 39.99, it?s not the highest proof but really good wheater.

It?s the same mash bill as Pappy?s only difference is Pappys is barrel selected by the family......the rest is Wellers from what I understand.

As a fan of jalapeno infused tequila and jalapeno margaritas, I had to try these. The Ancho Reyes Chile Ancho Liqueur and the Chili Poblano Liqueur are truly yummy sipping neat or added 50-50 with tequila in a margarita. The Ancho is a bit hotter, and the Poblano is like liquid roasted poblano. If you like roasted poblanos you have to try this.

Mrs. Hummer just fixed me an Ancho Martini. More on that later....

Buddy of mine back in OK has been home brewing beer for decades, maybe wine too, not sure. But he also makes spirits - he recently sent me 375ml samples of two kinds of bourbon and one gin that he made. Since he controls the process, he can refine all the impurities and crap out that the mass producers leave in. I tell ya, his moonshine was mighty damn good and tasty! Very clean and smooth, especially the gin. No mixers needed, just chilled and sipped neat. I want more.....

I rarely drink alcohol any more but I went looking for JW Dundee's Honey Brown Ale @ 3 different liquor stores yesterday. I found it @ 2 places, but they only had cans so I passed on it. I was sort of looking forward to enjoying a smooth ale with today's dinner. Looks like it'll be Dr. Pepper for me today though.

I guess I've never actually checked this thread.

I have a small group that does whiskey tastings a few times a month. At least we try to do it a few times a month. People bring in interesting things so others can sample them. We don't get drunk, the whiskeys tend to be expensive enough that it would be rude to sample enough to get lit.
It's been a great way to try a lot of different whiskeys at a relatively small cost. I bought a bottle of 9 year redemption for the group to try recently. It is darned good. I'm having a little of that tonight.

I found this bottle at my in-laws after my father in law passed. My mother in law said take it was probably a gift from a client. Can?t bring myself to open it. Going to have to wait for my kids wedding or college graduation which is many years down the road
