^^^ Looks good. The front stinger isn't my style but to each their own! Is this a lubricon or standard JK? Looks like the axle is a D30? That's some serious axle gussets, better paint them up before the moisture comes. Overall that's a sick jeep and I wouldn't be embarrassed to wheel with it.........Im a toyota guy though[Beer]
Yeah it's a D30. I'm just going to play with it until I bust it up and drop the 60 under there. No reason to waste money on a 44 when I'm moving to a 60 anyways. The stinger on the front wasn't my style either but eventually the plan is to add some lights and tie it in with the flares and a headlight surround or even my cage. It's large but it's growing on me. Overall I am pleased with how everything came out. His prices blew away all of the "major" brands. I am all about supporting local business so I tried it out. Now we really need to get some wheeling done!
Sounds like what you have planned will work well with that stinger!! I sold the truggy a few years back but I'll be a spotter whenever[Beer]
That is way to sick T-Giv! I hate seeing bigger Jeeps than mine...it gives me a complex.
-Can you open the back gate?
-Can that front stinger support the weight of the rig if it needed to?
Yes the rear carrier is anchored on the sides with quick disconnect pins. Pull the two pins and the whole carrier rolls down and rests on the ground so that the gate is accessible. My wife can even do it by herself. As far as the stinger, probably not. If I put it up on its nose now it would bend. The plan is to anchor it with a hood hoop and potentially my cage down the road. It's a little big anyway but it doesn't look as big as it does in the pics.
Looks like glock21 and I are trying to get a trail run together for next Thursday. Is anyone interested in tagging along? Something relatively mellow and close would be ideal as my buddy is potentially brining his stock Tacoma.

it looks like big bird visited your truss :P
[ROFL2] Indeed it does! Artec is the company who makes it and from what I gather it's so that the truss doesn't add an excessive amount of weight. It's the best truss I've seen so far. They make one for the rear axle as well that I may have to add on too.

Glad I noticed this thread. 89 YJ, 350, SOA, caged, 35s. When's the next run? Thursday? I've got no heat and cooling issues, but am dying to get out on the trails. I'll post some pics up when I get home.
We are going Thursday during the day it looks like. I have a Doc appointment at 0930 and then we will likely head out. Maybe meet at the gas station over by 285 and run something up that way?

^ Nice TJ! You in for next Thursday? I don't believe I've met a lot of the people in here so that needs to change! Anybody in here have a good tool set dialed in for the trail? What about on board air? I am in the process of getting my tools set up and I haven't been able to budget on board air yet. I just dumped a ton into the fab work, spare tire, and paying the rest of the Jeep off so I need to work some more OT!

How is that trail? Do you have any info on it? links? I don't know about it but from the sounds of it, it makes me think i might not make it being stock and all.... What do you think?
Slaughterhouse is fun. I think a stock 4x4 could run it. I ran it with a wrangler with 2" lift and it was cake.

Do we have an updated headcount for Thursday? Looks like my buddy's daughter recked her car today into a curb. He wants me to go down to Colorado Springs with him on Thursday to help him attempt to fix it. It seems that there is little to no interest for a Thursday run anyway aside from me and David. David you can come with me and Todd to the Springs. LOL
Ill pass on springs. This will give me time to get the doors on the xj

Well glock21 just finished getting his doors back on his rig so he is ready to go. We are setting up another run for next Thursday since it's the only day of the week that he and I have off together. Anyone who can make it is welcome. It looks like we are going to Slaughterhouse still because that way the stock rigs can still play. We can meet over at the gas station at 285/470 in Morrison around 0900. Sound like a plan?
Im in. I need a cb if anyone has a cheap one.

Check Craigslist David I have found a few on there that I almost picked up. We all need to get some CB's to stay organized if we get separated. Would anyone be opposed to running something more near Fairplay area? There is some land there that I am going to go look at after the run. I have found two options that I think would be a blast. One is a easier and one is harder. 10mm if you think you can hang on Twin Cone we can look at running that, otherwise we can run Rock Creek Hills. Either one would be great fun. This will give me an opportunity to test out my new hardware and see how it holds up. I am having issues with some rattles in the tire carrier so I can hopefully dial in the pins on the trail.

I haven't found it yet. JUST joined this forum. It's one of those... it's for sale, but not really trying hard :D It needs a transmission pump that I don't want to fix. Other wise, she's awesome.
how long does this run take?
I am not sure. I would imagine we will see how much snow we get when we get up there and then decide between the two. Even with significant snowfall the easier trail should be very manageable. I would imagine it won't take more than an hour and a half to fully explore the area once we get up there. I have to be back in Denver mid afternoon-ish so it can't take too long!

I blew my front shock lol. Ill replace it and fix a few other things.
I beat mine up pretty good today too. I burned a small flat spot into my clutch so it is launching from a standstill kinda funny. I also completely threw off my alignment. My steering wheel alignment is also wrecked so I now have a dash warning for that. My tires got some rash too from excessive spinning. I'd say I put the equivalent of 5,000 road miles on my rig today easily.

One shot of mine that I took yesterday. There were quite a few boulders hidden under the snow that I bashed into trying to climb up those steep climbs. It appears that I didn't break anything too serious. My tire carrier got all sorts of additional rattles yesterday from getting its ass kicked. I revamped the clamps today and so far no rattles at all. Can't wait to hit the trails again, especially next summer!

Yea, I seen you hit a few good ones thinking; I hope his lil Dana 35 holds up! Had me second guessing 35" tires and my front end. Glad she held up though!
Actually it's a 30 on the JK's. With my axle truss and gussets the front end is plenty strong for the time being. I'm more worried about blowing the ring and pinion with all of the crazy spinning I was doing. All is well though. Glad we had a great time. Can't wait for the next one dudes!

4.0/AW4/NP231
3.5" RE lift
RE Adj Track Bar
33x10.50 BFG AT's
I plan on keeping it pretty mild, some bumpers and skids as I get time to fab them up. Maybe a SYE depending on how bad the vibes are once everything settles out. The PO bought and installed the lift, he did an extra shitty job. The track bar was a hot mess and nothing on the front end was torqued to spec.

My 2012 JK on 35's. I chopped the fender flares down to flat flares, and the front and rear bumpers down to stubby bumpers. I have a hard and soft top for it and I recently got my CB install finished up. Cheers!!

I picked up this 96 Cherokee a couple weeks ago, drove it straight to the garage and started taking stuff apart. Here are some specs and pics.

I can't see what tires those are. Are those Nitto's? If you don't mind; How do you like em, are they good on ice? Your front bumper looks pretty good; how did you do it? These are some mods I am gonna have to do, others I have seen look pretty cut up.

The tires are Goodyear duratracs and I absolutely love them. They are fantastic on ice and snow. Really good offroad as well.
As far as the front bumper goes, when I was cutting it, I left a portion of the pieces that extend past the crush cans and cut the top and bottom off, but left the front piece of it, and then folded it over. I'll post some more photos of it if you'd like.

All nice rigs. Looks like we have a few more guys to wheel with. On another note. I have a wobble at 50mph, soon as i go 5 over or under that is stops. Any ideas.
Sounds like a slight bent wheel or possibly the balancing is off. I get that at 45mph but I have 2 slightly bent rims. If it puts you into DW then you may have another issue.

Tires lost balance???? Mine did that day until it kicked the snow, then it was fine. You might have lost a weight.....

This. I've had the same thing happen to me. I lost a balancing a weight. Unless you have really damaged something it's usually an unbalanced wheel(s).

Is that all aftermarket? Are they the solid Steering Linkage and Tirerod Bar? Looks great!
Hi guys! I just joined and luckily I found this thread, so my first post is about Jeeps! Here is my '96 XJ. It's about a 3.5" lift with 31's. She's a pavement princess with about 290k on the clock, so no 4 wheeling for her. When I hit the trails it's on my dirt bike.

All OEM Replacement parts from Napa. Cheaper than any after market DOM steering kit I could find, hell even cheaper than piecing one together.. Plus no knuckle mods to be done, just bolt on and go.
I used a stock XJ drag link as its allready a solid link. The tie rod is off any V8 ZJ (93-98? I think) and its also a solid link, 1" OD with larger rod ends than the XJ got stock.
Not as strong as going with a DOM kit maybe but this truck wont see hard core trails so I think it will be more than adequate.
Yes sir. The only thing that I've had to do, is a valve job at around 260ish IIRC. The 4.0 engines are awesome. I call them " the Cummins of gas engines". I'm also OCD about maintainence so that helps. The Aisin auto trannies in them are incredible too. It's never had any work done to it other than services.
I bet the hill at the end of Red Cone is a blast on a bike!

Not really. Actually, now that I think about it, it really stinks.
Here is my oldest son's Cherokee. It's a 2000 with a 4.5" BDS lift on 32's. It has the "Up Country" package with a LSD, skidplates, etc. We'll go wheeling in it.

I might depending on how the lift goes tomorrow. Were you thinking?
I was thinking of one of the trails near Loveland or Longmont. How is the lift going?
Well I got some more work done on my rig today. Added the hood hoop that is integrated with my front stinger. I also found a sick deal on a winch so I redrilled my bumper today, threw it on there and then wired it up. Works great and you can't beat Warn. Now I'm really ready to play! However, on the way down to the Springs this morning I started getting some weird vibrations when accelerating. On the way home things got much worse. I checked my rear driveshaft when I made it home (luckily) and it has sprayed grease everywhere. The boot is shredded on it. I'm glad I made it back home. I have had my lift on my rig for 5,000 miles and my driveshafts had exactly 5,000 miles on them when I lifted it. I had also never wheeled my rig prior to lifting it. So no trail ride for me tomorrow unless one of you dudes wants to pick me up. Bummer! Anyway, here are the pics!

Wow, that looks great! Bummer to hear to hear about your driveshaft woes. That sucks. Does the rear driveshaft have a CV?
Edit - Forgot to mention. I went and ran Sevenmile Creek up the Poudre Canyon this afternoon. It was mostly hardpack snow with occasional ice and dirt. I was solo, so didn't run any of the offshoot trails that were bigger climbs, but it was still fun. Only used 4 low once to crawl a bumpy section. I'll post some pics up soon.
Yes it does. I am running the Jeep by Rocky Mountain Driveline first thing in the morning. He told me that their "1000 HP rated" driveshafts are as legit as it gets. I may end up just swapping one of those in. If you guys are running tomorrow let me know. 10mm man would have to roll past me to get to your neck of the woods so he can pick me up.

Sounds good to me. I'll run again tomorrow. I got a bit hot today (need to upgrade e-fan with the taurus unit I have), but will venture out to ride a trail. Lets plan something. We'll have to find something in the Longmont-Denver area that's still open. A lot of the trails are closed.

Yes, it's a Supra, JDM supra no less. We took brought it with us from Japan to Germany, then sold it there after running into import issues with DOT and Customs. :( Yes. I miss it every day and am looking for another. That car was a blast on the autobahn and the Nurburgring.

I have some pics from the trail yesterday, but some reason, I'm unable to add them. Account limitation maybe? Doesn't even open the browse window to attach the files.
Well did some more tinkering today with my driveshafts and it looks like my front one also has a pretty large amount of play in it. I can grab it by hand and wiggle it and I get some lovely ticking sounds. [facepalm]So I am putting Rocky Mountain Driveline on hold for a bit to plan this out better. I know that I need to finally upgrade my rear upper control arms to get the pinion angle dialed in once I get the new shafts. Does anyone know how much I should expect to pay from Rocky Mountain for a front and a rear? Do they do a package discount?

I will have to find out on the paper work for the tranny, I am running 4:10 the build sheet is in the jeep.
Well if you have the manusl 6 speed here's your crawl ratio:
4.46:1Transmission 1st gear (NSG 370)
4:1Transfercase low range (NV241OR)
4.10Axle gear ratios
Crawl ratio 73:1
With 35's should be pretty decent on/off the trail!

Dang dude nice! i have an auto just not sure which one, think there are a couple options, right?
I think there is a couple but not 100% sure.
Take the 1st gear tranny ratio and times it by the4.0:1 t-case times the r&p and youll get the crawl ratio.

I was thinking mid day, so it has a chance to warm up a little. I haven't been on any trails outside the Ft Collins/Poudre area. The only two trails that appear to be open in NoCo are Taylor Mountain (NFSR 330)aka Bright Trail and Sevenmile which is way up on 14 in the Poudre Canyon. Do you know of any others?

I know were there are some in So. Co. not up towards you though. T-Giv do you know of any? What time you thinking? How far are the trails you speak of?
EDIT: Dentist appointment I forgot about today, let's set a time sometime after next week to get together and go. I can also do Saturday!

From CR, I think Bright Trail is about a little over an hour. Sevenmile would be two hours.

Yikes. Have fun at the dentist. If he tells you "you're going to feel a little prick in your mouth", be sure to ask for extra gas. I may be able to do Saturday as well.

That lil prick would be scary considering she is a "she"! lol..........
So who is up for Saturday?
I went to Rocky Mountain Driveline today. They checked out my shaft [fags] and they said that my front is okay to still drive on. The rear is getting worse with every mile. It clicks and clacks just on normal driving. So tomorrow I am getting a new shaft from them. I was going to throw it in myself but apparently there is a special torque wrench needed? The wrench is allegedly $80 which is what this shop is charging me to throw it in. Bottom line, after tomorrow I should be good to get out on the trail again!

Hmm, never heard of any "special" drive line torque wrenches..
If it were me I would just buy the wrench, that way when you have to do this again you wont have to pony up another $80.

How much were the shafts? I am sure I will need to do this as well...
Only the rear with their thicker material was $425.

That is not installed though. It looks they ended up changing the CV joins to a new type of mounting system now so the install is much different. They are charging $245 for the mounts and to balance/install it.

Apparently one of the joints for my driveshaft was not in stock at Rocky Mountain (even though they assured me it would be) so my rig is down until Tuesday at the earliest. It's just sitting in the lot with no rear driveshaft. [facepalm]
Saturday would be fun but we're going to the Pro 2A rally at the capitol. Hint, Hint.

We all need to pick a time and get together....... Maybe plan two weeks out?
Agreed! At the very least we should get a Jeep gang meet-up scheduled. That way we can put names with faces, exchange numbers, etc.

No doubt! You know it's tough now a days for me to get out being a new father and having a family to take care of. Shit's difficult but I am sure soon it will pan out. We just need to start our own Jeep Club. I know some of you guys have gone out together already but alls we have to do is get together once in a while for some eat and drink and we can plan out some wheelin and or shootin. Even in the dead of winter when it's harder to get a run together we can still go shoot or just have some eat and drink. I'm sure some of you also have little ones so we can just let the wives do the cookin and littlens play.

We went and hit the trails behind the shooting range up in Boulder, there were some fun steep runs and drop offs on the way down. Thinking of hitting Slaughterhouse tomorrow if anyone wants to ride/ run let me know.......
Edit: forgot to add that I ran into a couple rigs, guys were from "Mile High Jeep Club" they were organizing a run in three weeks to Chinaman (http://patrol2.com/?q=node/124) 2/9/2013.
said I didn't need to be a member to run with them and I could invite others. So who is in?

Let's get on it!!
Can't, I don't drive a Jeep. I'm only allowed to wheel at the mall.

I have a Jeep and I'm a Mall Crawler.
Only while you're waiting on a drive shaft.
Seriously though, I'd have to go on a more mild trail.I don't have the locked and lifted Toyota anymore.

Why not, Carnage is the funnest trail in that area [Awesom]
I've driven hundreds of feet into carnage before I had to turn around. I had a blast watching the serious buggies on 40" tires run through there.
This car doesn't flex much, so I spend a lot of time on 2-3 wheels.

So going up stuff like this, I really have to choose my line wisely or else I just end up doing the rock and spin. However, messing around the other day, I was able to go up this in only 2wd. For as many times as I've failed trying to do this in 4wd with bad lines, it was actually kind of frustrating to find I could go up in 2wd with the right line.

Took mine out last weekend. Ran 379 westbound, it was a good time, some sections were sketchier than normal due to snow and ice on the trail.
This is the only picture I was able to take, near Frosty Park.

I've got a 1966 CJ5a in the garage that my grandpa bought brand new, almost have it ready to go as a retro wheeler, but on the 9th we'll still be in Johnson Valley probably beat to hell and resting, the race is on the 8th.
I've pretty much retired from competing for the last few years, the only reason I'm doing KOH this year is because it's the #1 item on a good friends bucket list who is fighting renal cell carcinoma.
