Nothing too crazy, but didn't even know this was a thing. Some great views and is probably a pretty easy ride considering train tracks aren't that steep.

^^ That's neat. I recognized those trestles as soon as I started the video. Very near our house. They're riding above US-95 between Culdesac and Winchester. Part 2 is good, too, when they go over the Lawyer's Canyon trestle. It's almost 300 feet high.
I had no idea that kind of biking was a thing. Fantastic.

Exact same thought I had...
I think the video says it's abandoned tracks. A couple times it shows them having to pick up the bikes and walk over ruined parts of the track.

Some of those trestles were built in the early 1900s. They haven't had trains on them for years according to the historical markers along the highway.

Everyone likes to think they are a badass, but people rarely act the way they think they will. I had friends that caught a couple of thieves INSIDE their car coming back from the bar. Not only did they let them go, a girl was one of the perps, no one got even a little bit roughed up. From the sidelines it's hard to understand, but I suspect that's a pretty common result. Like the times my dog is actually successful at catching a squirrel, she has no idea what to do and it gets away unharmed.

I've see too many cops on the range to ever even consider doing something like that. I don't even like walking in front of them when their guns are holstered.

Also, I watched an Audi blast about 40mph down a residential today, then continue through a red light that turned about 50 yards before he reached the intersection. Don't worry though, because the sleepy little side street that he blasted through at about 30 mph was only Alameda. I checked my camera, but it dumped that video. I was disappointed.

He screwed up. 1st, the basket goes on the front so you can fit your alien. Then you just float up-up-and-away while federal agents in bad suits stomp their penny loafers. 2nd, you don't turn the wheel when landing a bunny-hop.
I don't understand how he ate it so hard. Wheel wasn't turned that much. Wonder if it was a combination of having his hand on the brakes and soft soil.
In the end, it was because he didn't have ET to make his escape as awesome as in his head.
I have a basket on the back of my bike. I have that same basket and was going to install that, but ultimately decided it was too large.

The Devoid plug for the SB Tactical CZPDW Stabilizer brace. Use the Devoid to support the shape of the brace and keep it clean when it is not in use around your arm. The Devoid also adds internal support to the brace and allows you to use the brace with your arm through the strap on the side of the brace instead of only through the middle, this allows SB tactical braces to be used in a similar manner to how the SBP Blade stabilizer functions. This is much more comfortable while still offering good support and stability. Our Devoid plugs are 3d printed from TPU, a nearly indestructible rubberlike plastic.

Rookie cop fabricates story about being shot at by a sniper.
A rookie Los Angeles cop has been fired after he 'completely fabricated' a story about being shot by a sniper.
Angel Reinosa, 21, has been 'relieved of his duties' after it was discovered he lied about the incident in Lancaster, California, at around 2.45pm on Wednesday.
He claimed to have been struck by a bullet while walking to his car in the police parking lot, and said a sniper in a four-story apartment complex nearby had shot him.
This led to a SWAT team searching every room in the building and the surrounding area, which concluded at around 5.30am Thursday.
At a press conference on Saturday, Homicide Bureau Captain Kent Wegener said the deputy had cut holes in his T-shirt with a knife to make it look like a wound.

At the time, Reinosa told investigators that his bulletproof vest had deflected the shot into his shoulder, which had left a bruise.
Wegner said: 'Things didn’t add up. There was no sniper, no shots fired and no gunshot injuries sustained to his shoulder. Completely fabricated.'
No ballistic evidence was found at the scene and no nearby witnesses heard any gunshots either, he added.
Reinosa, who was a rookie with the department for a year, has not revealed why he made-up the incident and has since been fired.
An investigation has been launched into Reinosa's report and he will face criminal charges, KTLA report.
The nearby apartment complex where the deputy claimed the shots were fired from overlooked the police parking lot.
The dwellings are government subsidized for the homeless and mentally ill, where police often break-up fights, Los Angeles Daily News reported.
In a 911 recording Reinosa told law enforcement: 'Have taken shots from the north of Lancaster helipad.
'Heard two shots go off. I'm hit in the right shoulder. It might have gone through.'
S.W.A.T teams arrived in helicopters and armored vehicles to search the apartment block over numerous hours.
Before the recent revelations, Lancaster Mayor Rex Parris said: 'Think about what happened today, a sniper took out one of our deputies.
'The only reason that deputy is alive is because he had his vest on.'
Parris added that it was 'insanity' for the apartment block of 'that population in that location.'
'Thank God we don't have a funeral,' he added.
Assistant Sheriff Robin Limon confirmed Reinosa had been fired and said the department was 'incredibly disappointed' by the incident.
Activist Najee Ali, an outspoken critic of law enforcement, called for the officer to be immediately arrested, according to the Daily News.
Ali said: 'There were several people who were detained by the deputies while they were investigating a fabricated shooting.
'He endangered the lives of everyone in that building. The waste of taxpayers dollars and manpower hours are inexcusable.'

Kind of like a drunk guy that is toying around with his "unloaded" gun at a party. Probably nothing going to happen. It's probably unloaded like he says.
But man, it makes you uncomfortable, because you have no way to know if it is, and you don't trust his ass, and you sure as hell don't want it pointed at you in case he pulls the trigger like a stupid.
Backhoe is probably safe 99/100 times... but you're really trusting the people who maintain it, and the guy who parked it, and you don't play Russian Roulette even if the revolver has a 100 round cylinder. There's more things that can happen that just equipment failure. (ground instability, earthquake, etc.)
I'm more uncomfortable about how the picture doesn't scare me than anything.
This weekend while at a poker party this guy had a nerf gun and he held it with his finger on the trigger, even while sitting on the table, and had it pointed right at my face. You should've pulled out your CCW, pointed it at his head, sainyg "I'm in fear for my life", and then later claim you didn't see the orange tip when the swat team came and pinned you down.
[Sarcasm2]
It's just a nerf gun. Jeez people [Beer]
PS if you want to have fun with people, get a long length of 1/2" pvc. PERFECT DIAMETER for both nerf darts and double AA batteries. Use as a blow dart gun - makes nerf hurt like paintball and leave marks if long enough. It used to be a running thing at my old shop.... after the "war" it was a long running game to sneak in hits. E.g. I was typing away once when suddenly 1/2" pvc slid between the crack under my monitor out of nowhere. I hit the deck, f the client.
Caution: AA batteries out of like 10' will break shit and probably make people bleed.

Anything that flies is a surveillance drone.

No questions asked. One bullet. What a sick f**k with a influential position.
Judge Cooper also acknowledged mitigating factors, such as Moon's lack of prior crimes, his military service, and work as a deputy marshal.
How in the world are any of those things mitigating factors?

Obvious you're rhetorical, but it's just excuses to justify the plea-deal factory which would happen regardless.
It often takes the system quite awhile to realize that convicted serial sex offenders are "serial" because of this, much less how hard it is to catch them in the first place. Even rapes get pled down to assault, DV, etc. When looking at background in convictions, it's not telling.
Most telling is the guy threw out his P.C. - no doubt child crap on there and esp targeting that young, of a serious pedo nature. It's a travesty that he's not required to register as a sex offender. More than anything, that's what I would have pushed for.

True story from childhood: Out camping, mom accidentally grabbed the icy hot instead of the toothpaste (same bin) and brushed her teeth with the stuff. Took a little bit for the realization and panic to set in, surprisingly. Kind of makes me wonder if it doesn't taste like mint. But with her... it could taste like motor oil and it still might take awhile.
But yeah, remember that story come april fools.
We put Icy Hot on our dad's toothbrush once. Thanks for reminding me of that.
Edit: No it was Anbesol, and I put it on my mom's toothbrush.

BARSTOW, Calif. ? A California man who said he wanted to fly to the edge of outer space to see if the world is round has died after his home-built rocket blasted off into the desert sky and plunged back to earth.
?Mad? Mike Hughes was killed on Saturday afternoon after his rocket crashed on private property near Barstow, California.
Waldo Stakes, a colleague who was at the rocket launch, said Hughes, 64, was killed.
The Science Channel said on Twitter it had been chronicling Hughes? journey and that ?thoughts & prayers go out to his family & friends during this difficult time.?
?It was always his dream to do this launch,? the Twitter message said.
Hughes also was a limousine driver, who held the Guinness world record for ?longest limousine ramp jump,? for jumping 103 feet in a Lincoln Town Car stretch limousine, at a speedway in 2002.
A video on TMZ.com showed the rocket taking off, with what appears to be a parachute tearing off during the launch. The steam-powered rocket streaks upward, then takes around 10 seconds to fall straight back to earth. Shrieks can be heard as the rocket plows into the desert.

I'm actually confused by tossing the P.C. Tossing it seems like the stupidest course of action if there's evidence on it. If a hard drive could send someone to the bad prison, the logical course of action is to completely destroy the magnetic platter. A secure electronic wipe (DBAN) followed by physical destruction of the platter.
I didn't find anything to suggest there was a search warrant or anything. I guess sniffing little girls panties isn't probable cause.

Moving back to Colorado. Laid off in early Feb due to an acquisition. Got an offer in CO, but OK hasn’t been what we thought or hoped, so this is giving us an out. Looking at this as a reset and we will see what happens in a few years.

Have you been to Oklahoma in the summer? Pretty sure you would jump at the opportunity to get out of there too.
It’s not the heat so much as things like the chiggers, general trashiness outside of Tulsa, etc. Growing up in Florida, I was in the woods more days than not. I never got into chiggers unless it was in Spanish moss. But out here I got eaten alive my first time walking the property once we bought it. Not really into the idea of not accessing 50% of the land 8-9 months out of the year. The other times, it was raining when we came out and I didn’t have issues when I was walking it. A lot of intangible reasons too. My wife was in the ICU with epiglottitis a few weeks ago and the lack of family/friends support was a burden unlike any others we have had, especially with 3 kids 5 and under.
At any rate, we are eating crow and coming back to CO. May be there a year. Maybe til we are old. Who knows. But it’s a known. The area is a known, the work place is a known. It’s a sensible reset.
Have you been to Oklahoma in the summer? Pretty sure you would jump at the opportunity to get out of there too.
Yes. My first wife's family is in Tulsa. I can remember driving to visit and not noticing anything until I got out of the car. Humidity hits you in the face and you see the condensation that was on the outside while you had the AC running.
Still not as bad as around Houston, Tx. [Coffee]
general trashiness outside of Tulsa, etc.
Having traveled around to a lot of the Eastern part of this state, I've found that in a lot of places with that "small town vibe" where people have more freedom to be themselves and do what they want, are also usually trashy shitholes, which is unfortunate.

Having lived all over (pops was airforce) Coloradans are generally spoiled by the concept of "small town vibe" as the small towns here (particularly mountain towns) are clean, quaint, trendy, and fun. That is NOT typical elsewhere.

That was an epic mullet!
Did this to myself tonight, only I think closer. I knew what I was messing with from the start, so it was all that much the worse. I unscrewed both bolts to the refrigerant canister, standing away expecting it to blow. But it didn't. So I leaned over it to see what was going on. Then it about blew my face off. 134a is the bright green color of anti-freeze and my eyebrows were that color. Who knows where the bolt it blew out went, glad it wasn't through my brain.

I shouldn't have laughed but I did. You all right enough now?
Yeah. I went and washed my face and feel okay. Eyelids felt a little burned up and all the sensitive parts of my face feel very dry still. Also, I'm a bit cold.
When you put your face over something it raises the odds that it will blast off by 100%.
Glad you're OK.
You should look at your face with a UV light to see if you missed a spot. That green stuff is UV dye.
You swapping the trans on the van?
Nah, trying to sell the van, but as per the reputation, people keep flaking on me from Craigslist. The guy I bought this latest Trooper from said it jumped out of gear and rolled into a concrete parking post, in the front. Which is funny, because the guy I bought the first Trooper from said it jumped out of gear and rolled into a tree, in the back. Anyway, I realized that the front radiator support is tack welded and probably riveted into the front clip, so the bent part isn't an easy swap from the pick n pull. So I was doing a little surgery.

The first picture was where I was standing when my foot slipped out from under me. I landed on my back and quickly started sliding feet first over the edge. I was trying to lay flat and use my body to slow me down. I was pressing my palms down for purchase, trying to find a sheet metal screw head, but was having no luck. I reached the conclusion that I was going to go over the edge and reserved myself. I made a last ditch effort to try and stop by putting both palms on the edge of the gutter, but didn't have high hopes. The gutter quickly ripped off and dumped me over the edge. That white flower pot was plastic and full of dirt, with the blue one right next to it on the sidewalk. I smash landed onto those flower pots like a cartoon and rolled into the yard. It continued to rain for the rest of the day, and probably for the rest of this week. That was just my first appointment.

Any landing you can walk away from...
Could you do your outdoor roof survey work with a drone? You may not pay the full price for these types of injuries now, but your body will likely be paying interest on these injuries when you get past 50 and 60 years in age.
Be safe.
Drones are used in the industry, but they sure cost a lot and add a lot of hassle for their limitations.
Broken bones and paralysis would seem to be much more hassle with greater limitations. You know your limits. I will pray for your safety.
Did the homeowners demand you pay for their broken planter or were they sympathetic over your use of their roof for your luge training?
The damages in this town are basically a tornado. That gutter for example, was already partially ripped off the house already, so it was getting paid for, and what I landed on was the pile of broken yard decorations. While I had cash on hand to pay for anything, anything in question was already getting bought. Right after this, I crawled around in the dirt crawl space counting how many floor joists and support beams were cracked from the wind trying to push the house off the foundation. All that to say that under normal circumstances, that would have been an issue, but in this case, they are probably happy that their house is still standing.
No one came outside to see what was going on. At some point it was mentioned that they thought they heard a sound and hoped it wasn't me falling off the roof. If the window were open, they would have seen me fall past them onto the ground like some comedy movie.

Maybe you could use your fall protection equipment.[handbags]
I can also testify to
but your body will likely be paying interest on these injuries when you get past 50 and 60 years in age.
My stuff doesn't really work on low slope roofs. The real issue is that you shouldn't be on a metal (or woodshake) roof in any kind of moisture. It's one of those things where you get complacent when things aren't scary 100% of the time. Just one of those playing with fire and getting burned events. I'm glad I'm okay to. Thanks.

Glad you’re ok.
Holy cow! That's awful. I'm glad you're okay, but as soon as you can, you should definitely invest in a drone, like everyone else is saying. Really. Next time you may not be as lucky.
That's like investing in a CDL.

That's like investing in a CDL.
Well my CDL increased my income potential. Unless you are using that abbreviation to mean something else.
I hope you at least cleaned the brown streak off the roof where you slid off.
All the adrenaline and embarrassment kept me from noticing any bumps and bruises for a good hour after that.
So, inquiring minds want to know.... after you dusted yourself off did you go right back onto the roof?
Yeah, that's why I have the first picture, so I could show where I was standing. And for the record, it's okay to laugh, that's why I posted it here. It was a total bonehead move and looked every bit as dumb as it sounds.
First I texted my buddy who is about an hour away (also a member here), then I got back up to finish what I was doing, but with more swearing. Then I went on four more roofs at my other inspections. One was an 8/12 which is beyond the comfort of most people that don't work on roofs even under the best circumstances. Then, just to prove how dumb I am, I got onto another metal roof, this one with a 16' eave. While I was on that one, it started raining in earnest, instead of the sprinkling it has been doing all day. Fortunately that roof was even less steep, and the panels were all like 30 years old so they weren't as shiney and slippery as usual.
The whole issue is that it was raining, and I was trying to keep my little clipboard that I write measurements on dry. So I was instead writing the measurements on the roof and then taking a picture for later. I had already measured that porch eave and bent down to write the measurement and broke the #1 rule of walking on roofs. Always keep your feet directly below your center of gravity (like skate boarding) and my foot slipped and dropped me right on my back.

Glad you're OK Irving. This just reinforces my lack of desire for my big, fall prone ass to ever be on a roof.

Damn, dude...your guardian angel was working overtime today. Thank goodness for that.
What?s the insurance payout on the broken gutter and pots?
For a plastic flower pot, maybe $20, and aluminum gutters bill out at something like $6-$7 a linear foot. The measurement is 10' by the way. That's what I was trying to write when I found myself in the spawn area instead.
Very glad you're OK Irving. Lots of people have become paraplegic from that stuff. Don't discount the employment risk for the long haul, you're worth keeping around awhile.
My minor experience with that was scary enough. I've never fallen off one but did fall through one. Reroofing 4000sf w/ 2/3 of it redecked, I slightly spaced that one smaller OSB hadn't actually been nailed in place yet as I was walking backwards up the roof. It was like a cartoon with a trap door where you're there, and suddenly your not. Flat backed into the attic space but only about a 4' drop. That was enough of a wake up call to be much more careful.
Don't walk backwards is the #2 rule of walking on roofs. I do it all the time as well.
Glad you're OK Irving.
Thanks for the chuckles at the expense of your dignity.

Stu, I'm glad you're okay (you'll definitely hurt in the morning).
I hate myself for laughing at your misfortune, but picturing it in my mind.....bloody funny!
Thanks. All the soreness is already starting. Be interesting to see where all hurts tomorrow.

I know you're in Missouri, but if you need anything, please let us know and we'll do our best to help!
I told you those MO good ole boys were dangerous. Who in MO uses metal roofs? Keep your eye on 'em - next thing they'll pull is copperhead snakes in the crawlspaces. [sarcasm; mostly]
Stay safe brother

The copperheads and water moccasins are no joke out there!
Glad you are okay.
I think your martial art falling technique (nakbup) definitely helped a little.

Great that you survived!
Can you verbally record notes on your phone and write them down when you are back on the ground?
I've seen some guys do that, but man, what a nightmare to review. I've had an inspection that lasted a full eight hours with something like 28 structures before. No way it'd be reasonable to listen to that over and over to get the info I need. Voice to text picture captioning would be amazing though. As well as the ability to draw on screen on real time. Drawing on screen is one thing I miss about using a tablet, but probably the ONLY thing. An actual digital camera takes much better, and faster pictures than any cell phone/tablet.

Not sure how I missed this event. Damn, Irv. Glad you're OK.
50 or 60? I noticed the past abuse of my bod after 40. Just don't heal like you used to.
It's just not worth it, bud.
My back hurt a lot the next day. At the end of the day I took 440mg of Aleve and the pain went away within minutes and never came back. Very strange for me. I never bother taking pain killers because they never seen to do anything. I'm always amazed when they actually work.
Aleve/naproxen sodium had been my preferred NSAID for osteoarthritis and joint pain. Doc put me on celebrex/celecoxib instead. Ibuprofen doesn't do much for me at all even at high doses, but it is good for nerve pain, including dental work. Dentists like it since it's a Cox 2 inhibitor and can actually shrink irritated nerves in teeth.
I wish I didn't know this shhhhtuff. I have learned that having a high pain threshold can be a bad thing. You don't take it easy and slow down when that's what the pain is trying to get you to do, and you pay the price later. Having some issues later in life has revealed that I had fractures that were never addressed. Going to the doctor was just something my family didn't do (couldn't afford to do?) unless it was absolutely necessary.
Cut yourself some slack and try to think about the long game.
Yeah, things we think we walked away from when we were young often end up becoming bone spurs and points of arthritis when we're older.
The body's a patient, vindictive bitch. We don't walk away from anything.

Be glad Irving, be very thankful.
This is from when I fell off a roof...
I am glad believe me. There isn't a time that I'm chalking up a gutter on a two story directly over a fence that I don't think about The Hand That Rocks The Cradle.

Does anyone else have a bit of anxiety when opening this thread? I'm always a tad bit worried that there will be a picture or link to an article about something I did.

Thankfully there was no Internet or cell phones when I was a kid doing stupid stuff. Youth today just don't seem to grasp the concept of "plausible deniability".

I'd have had my butt spanked and been grounded so much, I wouldn't have much time to get in trouble.
I wasn't afraid of the police. They have limits. I was afraid of my parents.

I grew up out in the boonies with 6 brothers and sisters, Dad owned an excavating business and along with all the heavy equipment came the workshop and tools to repair them. Older brother and I would get balloons, fill halfway with acetylene and top it off with oxygen from his cutting torches. Put the balloon in a paper grocery bag, twist the neck of the bag up tight, set fire to it and run like hell. Home-made Daisy Cutter. We would clear out spots to pitch our pup-tent for camping expeditions down by the river. Also used to take M-80s (back when you could buy real M-80s), smear them with contact cement and roll them in BBs. I am still amazed that nobody walked away with a bloody stump.
I read your 'frag grenade' description and it reminded me that I'm surprised I still have both of my eyes. Can't read worth a damn without glasses at my age, but they still mostly work.

Cruelest thing the police ever said/did to me: "I've called your mother. She's on the way down here. She didn't sound happy."

I made sticks of explosive out of the hard cardboard tube that used to come on hangers for pants...about 12 or 14 inches long. Plug one end with wax. Fill it and tamp it really good with homemade gunpowder (thank you Encyclopedia Britannica). Top it with a model rocket engine fuse and seal that end with wax.
Pretty impressive explosion and a metric shit ton of smoke. Many a tree were laid waste thanks to the IEDs of my youth.
I'd have had my butt spanked and been grounded so much, I wouldn't have much time to get in trouble.

Definition of fear (Entry 2 of 2)

Turned too close to ditch and dropped right side drivers into ditch. Only tool box and rear step bumper keeping it from rolling over into ditch. Heard later it took 3 hours to get it out without tipping and spilling load.
Think they will pay for the wrecked culvert?

Oddly enough they seem to have a serious following. especially hog hunters, who slap a brace and some brand of NV, or thermal. The 300 blk is a real hit, short, bolt action (amazing suppressed) Ability to add a brace and side folding mechanism. Oh Yeahhhhhhhh
