Built another shelf and tied some storage cabinets to the wall. One of these days I am actually going to pull the handle a little.

I cast some .44 boolits, then took on the task of opening up the cavities on my stupid new Lee mold. They were dropping from the mold at .450" - .4515". After turning some oversized boolits with some bore bright, I boiled the block, cleaned it with rubbing alcohol, and it still took about 100 drops to get pretty boolits again.
Damn you, Lee!!!!

Put in a new door. Had to do some reframing of the doorway. Load bearing wall was 3" off plumb
Banged out 200 rounds of 223 and stuffed them in Pmags. Need to buy some more 50rd MTM boxes to finish up the rest of the brass for storage.

Three guesses what I did. Yes, deprimed. I'm starting to think I'm like Bobby and will never get through with the prep. Actually realized that depriming LPP with the Harvey deprimer is much faster than SPP. Flying through 45 ACP and 454 Casull until I hit one of those SPP 45 ACP brass.

Loaded up another 100 9mm's. 50 Berry plated HBFP 124's over 3.8gr Universal and 50 115gr plated round nose over 4.0gr Universal. I think the flat point 124's might be a nice soft shooting load for 3-gun, hope to try them later this week when the weather returns to normal-ish.

Finally pulled the handle a little today. Loaded up 32 rds of 44 mag. Why only 32 you ask? That is all the brass I have till my order comes in. Who knows when that will be.
I sent four hours teaching three newbs how to set up and run their brand new Dillon 650. I hope they were paying attention. Today confirmed for me that beginners should not try to learn on a progressive.
I called Sportsman's Warehouse - still no powder.
Finally got my backordered Forster Ultra micrometer die set in from Midway. Beautiful stuff. FullLength sized one piece of 300 Blackout brass just for kicks. Nice, tight shoulder and perfect size. Will start load development this Saturday.

Take a turn at some 158 swc's tomorrow before a range trip. Might finish off the 200 primed 357's i acquired as part of a reloading package from 5 years ago. . I figured those loads will have cost around $9. The only thing missing was the primers;)

Ran about 500 rounds of 223 on the Dillon. God I love that press.
And those $90/1000 Armscore 55 Gr bullets seemed to be just fine, all seated well and canalure landed in the same spot on all of them. Now I just kinda wish I'd have bought more of them.

While I was away I discovered the need for a case trimmer, primer pocket reamer for my .223 brass. I thought that maybe I could reload my brass once without trimming. I was wrong.

Just got back from the range, shot my first reloaded rounds of .40 S&W. Not a single malfunction, no signs of high pressure (looking at primer or for case bulges), found a load that is VERY accurate in my Glock 23. I think I'll load up another 100-150 or so for a longer range session this weekend with my Fiancee while she shoots the G23 with 40-9 conversion barrel.
Did a little price calculations too, and I am already realizing the benefits of reloading. The 70rds that I shot today only cost me a total of $14.4271 (prices of powder/primers/bullets including tax). That comes to $10.305 for a 50rd box. Walmart price for 50rds of .40S&W is around $16-$18 last I bought it, so I'm very happy with my savings and the improved accuracy!
Best of all, the cheaper price of ammo means I can go practice more! :D

Yea, its definitely an awesome feeling the first time you shoot your own ammo!
I found that 3.6gr of WST behind a 165gr FMJ (heavy plated Frontier) with 1.125" OAL produces the most accurate groupings. At ~7yds, I got 6 out of 10 shots within a 1" circle, all touching and they tore a big hole through the target. The other 4 rounds were within 1/2" of that hole. It might actually be the best grouping I've ever gotten with my pistol too! The load that was second was the 4.2gr WST. That one was about a 2.5" grouping, all rounds were equally spaced in a circle though. I'll play around with both loads more.
I also tried 3.3gr WST, 4.2gr WST and 4.7gr N340. I'll definitely play around with N340 more later, but for the time being I'll stick to the much cheaper WST and really nail down that load.

Thanks for the tip. I only got through maybe 75 cases before I starting realizing the firing pin indent in the primer had a ridge on the edge of some and was throwing the measurement off. Then I just lost all motivation since I don't have any components.
I haven't reloaded for rifle yet but perhaps I need to re-read the section in my manuals about rifle case prep while I try to track down the stuff I need/want/can-afford.

Don't give up. No matter what else is going on, there is always brass to be prepped.
My system for .223:
Deprime
Tumble
Swage
Lube and size
Tumble
Case gage to sort out the cases that need to be trimmed from the cases that are ready to load.
Trim the long ones
Hand prime all of the cases
The primed cases are ready to load when you have powder and bullets.
It's not fast, but the rounds come out consistent.
Friday: Loaded 200 .223's up. Saturday, I loaded 170 45 ACP and 200 9mm. Tomorrow will clean up the bench and decap/resize/bell and prime about 500 pcs of 9mm brass for use at a future date.

The Long Colt is just a touch shorter than the 38 Special.
Once I get my trim die dialed in, I am going to trim all of this stuff to 38 Super length.
Loaded 2K rounds of 147 9mm. Loaded 500 rounds of .40S&W. Loaded 50 rounds of .45ACp for the Chrono. Put a Volquartsen trigger in the 22/45 Lite. Put FO sights on the Kids 10/22. Sorted a 5 gallon bucket of brass. Cleaned the bench. Put together a new bolt and carrier for the .450 BM.

Finished loading the last of my 40 bullets and am now officially out of 40 bullets. LGS doesn't have much and I was considering buying 1k from powerbondbullets.com yesterday but opted not to. Then, today they raised their price on them by $13/500. Kicking myself that I didn't order some yesterday. So, instead I ordered 1k of 9mm bullets from xtremebullets.com.

Sized .40 s&w? Are you doing it for fun or do you actually have cases that need to be resized? Or do you just do it to all of them to keep them a uniform length?
eta: Because I thought pistol brass rarely, if ever, needs to be trimmed.
2nd eta: I've measured the 1.5k pistol brass that I have and none of it was closer than 0.010" to the max length. They've all been fired 3 times now and that was after resizing. Hmm, might have to check again though

I size everything. I don't check case length or trim pistol brass. Where I am sort of anal is decapping and priming off the press.

Wow, I totally misread your post. I imagined that you were TRIMMING the 40s&w brass, not sizing it.
What's your reasoning for decapping/priming off the press? Don't want your press getting dirty or do you have a progressive/turret/whateverhtehellthey'recalled press where all stages are done on one press?
I've got a single stage and do everything on the press and simply vacuum up particles of carbon and crushed walnut when it gets obviously dirty. I have a feeling I'll eventually need to apply some lube of some sort to the ram, but living in the desert with next to zero percent humidity, the chance of rust on the ram is quite low.

Bagged n tagged a shit load of brass for a garage sale i'm doing in the am.
I try to find ways to be productive away from a press. I have a single stage and a Lee Pro 1000. I use a Harvey Deprimer and an RCBS universal hand primer. When I actually sit down at the press, I just want to churn out finished rounds, which is pretty easy when you are feeding clean, sized, primed, cases.

I have never used a 1050, but have been thinking about asking Dillon if there is a way to set up a swager on a 550 or 650. I use the Super Swage now, but it is still time consuming. I currently have the 550 set up with two tool heads for the 223. The first is small base size and decap with the power trimmer. If they made a swager that replaced the primer bar and stayed stationary, it would save a lot of time. Then just switch back to the primer bar for loading. Once my carbide dies come in, I will be switching the 223 to the 650.
Thank you.

eta: Just asking because I just started loading 223 and don't want to get a stuck case ever. I'm using Dillon case lube, but when this runs out, I might make my own using the 1:4 ratio of liquid lanolin ($8 on amazon) to 16oz 91%-99% isopropyl alcohol. Supposed to be the exact same stuff and works just as well, at a fraction of the price (about 1/4 to be exact lol).

Did you finish the bench?
I've designed a bench that I'll build when I've got the money, figure it'll take about $75-100 in wood, but still would love some ideas to see how other people are doing theirs.
Today, I drove home from work to spend the afternoon with my Fiancee because this longer work shift seems like its taking forever. I also unboxed my newly purchased Lee Carbide .38spl and .45acp dies that I got for $20. Still amazed I got them at such a steal of a price! They're a little dirty, looked like there was some sort of grease inside of all of the dies, but that will clean up after they take a bath. Having these dies will give me more brass to prep and the .45acp die will give me an excuse to pickup a .45 pistol at some point [LOL]
TheBelly

Did you finish the bench?
Yes. Seeing as the army is a fairly transient lifestyle (having to move every couple years) this bench has legs that will fold up into the top. It's like a folding table (like the ones you're used to seeing) only made of good wood.
Im going to get the metal stand that rcbs makes for this press so that I can mount the press in away from the edge a bit. The press is going to be mounted on the end, so I can put more leverage if needed without upending the whole table.

The bench is 72" long and almost 2 feet in depth. The height of the press means that I can sit on a chair/stool and be staring right at the case when it contacts the dies.

Nice looking bench, and well thought out with making it foldable.
What size plywood is that on top?
I was planning one with 4x4 legs, 4x4 rectangular top, and a slab door for the top. Then doing a shelf on bottom with 2x4s. I'm definitely over engineering it though, I'm using Solidworks to draft it up lol
In fact, I have to buy some wood to support the underside of our roof under our new evaporative cooler, so I might buy a little extra wood and get started building the reloading bench. Which means I've got to spend some time tonight finalizing the design (definitely need to simplify things, I'm no carpenter).

3/4 inch on top. I don't think I'll be torquing so much that I pull through the wood. The key thing though is that I'm trying to spread the load over a larger area by using the stand and washers.

Yea, I'm considering getting a stand too, but I honestly think I need to find a nice stool to plan the entire workbench around lol. My bench will be around 61" wide and 30" deep, which is much deeper than it needs to be, it'll offer me lots of bench top storage. I might even build a "hutch" style top to add some shelves too. Need to figure out where I'll be mounting my digital scale though, I know it needs to be mounted on a different surface than the work bench so its more stable, but I don't want it too close to the wall that its hard to see the display. I've currently got it sitting on the countertop in my laundry room, but its a few inches from the wall and kind of a pain to work with.

Yea, I thought of the storing too much crap on top aspect, but since I really don't have any other place that I can easily have a clear workspace to work on guns etc, I end up cleaning my rifles on the kitchen table and my Fiancee hates that (even though I put down towels).
I've also heard that you shouldn't put fluorescent lights above the workbench, because they emit too much electrical noise/interference that can screw with the accuracy of digital scales. Not sure how much truth there is to that, but it'd be pretty easy to test with a set of calibration weights.

I went with a MyWeigh GemPro250. It has 0.02 grain accuracy. Do I need that kind of accuracy? Not really, but they have an amazing no questions asked warranty and I figure if I ever get into long range shooting, the load to load consistency will be nice.

I bought mine on amazon for $140 something shipped. Its a great scale, hasn't moved off zero in the couple of months that I've had it. Before I go to reload again and use it, I throw the 20g calibration weight on it, and it shows exactly 20g every time.
eta: I only use mine with the AC adapter and keep it turned on 24/7. There is apparently some adjustability in the accuracy of it if you use it within 24hrs of turning it on, though its usually like 0.04gr off or something. Which isn't something to scoff at.

I started working on my reloading bench today, though I didn't think I'd be able to work in the 98deg heat. But after cutting all of the wood in the shade, I decided it wasn't too bad, and continued with assembling it. Got it to where it sits now in only 2.5 hours, but I still have to put two center cross braces (perpendicular to the length of the table) to be able to attach the laminate to. Then I have to cut 1ft off the end of the laminate so it can fit in the nook where my current bench is.
The new bench is 37" tall, which is the perfect height for me while standing (cleaning rifles) or sitting (reloading). That was intentional. Also, I made the gap between the bottom shelf and the top shelf the perfect height so that while sitting, I can put my feet up on the bottom shelf and my knee clears the top shelf. Furthermore, the bottom shelf is 5" off the ground, with is the perfect height for toes/feet to fit underneath the shelf so you can get closer to the bench. And yes, I measured how big my feet were in boots to find this measurement and then added a little extra.
In total, I think the bench cost ~$120, and half of that was the laminate top. All in all, I'm very impressed and extremely happy with how it turned out. I will eventually be putting plywood on the bottom 2x4s to create a shelf.
Now, onto the pictures. Click them for larger sizes. The last picture is my old workbench. My press was mounted between the left two bubble tubes on the red level.

Seems like lots of folks are building reloading benches right now! Mine is primarily for working on my guns, but has plenty of space for reloading equipment when I can afford to make that investment.
Top surface is 8ft long, 2ft deep, and 34 inches off the floor. It is 2 pieces of 3/4 inch plywood glued and screwed together, and also glued and screwed to the frame of the bench. It has 3 2x4s running the length of it for added (and probably unnecessary) strength and rigidity. In the first picture it looks a little out of square, but it's just the perspective.. It's definitely square.
http://i.imgur.com/2hpxrFvl.jpg
Gluing the two sheets of plywood together for the top surface:
http://i.imgur.com/xrWJbJRl.jpg
After applying the glue, I set the bench upside down on top of the top surface and ran 1 1/4" screws in from the bottom. There are no screws on the work surface, which is a nice touch I think.
It has a 4inch overhang on the front for mounting tools, vices, and reloading equipment.
http://i.imgur.com/VtEVAYLl.jpg
I had an extra sheet of plywood left over, so I glued and screwed it to the bottom for added strength and a little extra height. The piece of plywood on the floor behind the bench needs a little trimming tomorrow so it can be glued and screwed to the top of the bottom horizontal 2x4s for a shelf. Eventually this bench will be up against a wall and that wall will have shelves and pegboard on it for organizing and hanging tools, guns, or whatever.
http://i.imgur.com/RvVjEkvl.jpg
As it stands now, it probably weighs close to 200 lbs. I plan on loading up the bottom shelf with ammo and other heavy stuff so that the bench doesn't move when applying torque to the mounted tools, vices, and presses. I might add cross bracing later if it needs it, but this thing is really solid as is. After I add that last piece of plywood as a shelf, I'm going to take a belt sander to all the edges and round them off just a hair so that I don't get splinters or have hard edges.
Total cost was $110 with 80% of that being the 2 sheets of 3/4" plywood.
Time 4 bed.. 4am comes to damn earley!

Nice job HoneyBadger! Looks like a very nice bench! You obviously have the space to put that large of a bench, I wish mine could be longer, but then again, my new bench is larger than my current one and I don't use all of that.

Nice! But add some 2x4's in that bottom frame before you put the plywood shelf on, or it'll sag.

Agreed, especially if you plan to glue the plywood down, it'll be harder to replace when it sags.

Yeah, I realized that as I was typing the post. I'll have to go find some 2x4 scraps out in the garage. Thanks!

Thanks! I have an unfinished basement that is about 900sq ft, and Mrs HoneyBadger basically gave me the basement to do as I want with as long as she gets the rest of the house and I keep the garage tidy. The blue tape on the floor in the pics are potential future walls for my gun room.

Loaded some .224 50 grain vmax bullets for testing. Xterminator 23 gn - 24.7 gn in .2 gn increments. Hopefully shoot one night this week.
Finished 2 .300BO builds, set up to load and then loaded 15 rounds of the same.
When I hit the range, everything ran like a top. Pretty cool little cartridge.
Tumbled some 308 brass and loaded up more 45 Colt.
Going to be sizing some .308 and .223 brass this evening in the hotel room in Beatrice, Nebraska.
Actually thought to throw some tools and brass into a back pack and take it with me.
At least I can get something productive done while I'm away from home for work.

Tested 8 various loads (2 bullets, same powder) at the range, found one that is extremely accurate! Got 1" groupings at 10yds, was very excited (probably the best grouping I've ever had). Good thing I've got 1k of those bullets and plenty of that powder too.
Ran home and loaded up 250 of those. Going to reload the other batch and go with a larger charges too and test again.
Last night I ran 100 .204 brass through a type S bushing die a couple of times. Now I got 100 .17/.204 brass trimmed, primed, and ready to load once I know what I need for COAL.

Wiped out the last of my 9mm bullets I had on hand, about 400 total. Well, make that 398. 2 of the brass pieces ended up being .380 and didn't notice until after priming them, so I changed out the dies and did a run of 380. Today is going to be as much 38 and 45 as my arm will handle.
