Eagerly awaiting a Mr. Bullet feeder for the dillon's I see a bunch of crap sitting on my couch that looks nothing like something that would feed a bullet. Trying to figure out a way to part it out. some for the plumbing and 50 cents in scrap as the pawn shop said $5 for it. [LOL][Flower] I have no clue since some fast talking guy that knows my Daughter dropped it off saying I would know what to do with it.
Did not fit any of the "team lee" stuff so trash guy come on wed. [Sarcasm2]

Tested some 45 gap and 45 auto loads at Pawnee, picked up my brass plus +/- 1200 other pieces of brass. Tumbled all of said brass. Sized, trimmed, de-bured another 100 pieces of 40, another few hundred to go. Getting ready to order a swagger, more dies and bullets.
trading some 20 gauge shells for an ultra sonic cleaner tomorrow, can't wait to try it.

Traded 3 boxes of Walmart value pack 20 gauge shells for a frankford ez sonic cleaner from a guy at work and he threw in a bottle of hornady cleaner. He has a better faster way of cleaning which I will try next, I have only used tumblers so I was pretty impressed with the sonic cleaner!

Loaded 9mm until I ran out of powder. Ended up with about 700 rounds. Shot 150 at the range today, so I'm plus 550 rounds on the day. Really need some pistol primer or I'm going to be forced to start buying Winchester whitebox soon!
I've also been running my stainless tumbler almost non-stop for the past 4-5 days. It's really cool to dump in some pretty awful-looking brass and have it come out looking like new.
Good times.

Fortunately I have a bit less than half a keg of Solo 1000 and an extra full keg. I should be good for the next 20k rounds of 9mm.
Only 200-250 necks left to turn. Should get that project wrapped up this weekend.

Reloaded 300 rounds of 9mm. Processed/tumbled another 1500 pieces. Found out the hard way that you do NOT want to wet tumble (in stainless media) brass that is covered in Dillon case lube! What a gooey mess.
For anyone who's wondering what a newbie could expect in terms of production rate... I've now done a total of about 1700 rounds of handgun ammo. For grins I started the stopwatch on the latest 300. I completed them in right at 22 minutes. I felt like I was moving at a snails pace... definitely not attempting some sort of max speed run. About the only thing I did that might be considered a speed enhancement was to pre-load 3 tubes of primers so I could just drop them in (300 total primers). If you do the math, it shows that I'm doing right at 800 rounds an hour.
i think I could easily double that rate with a bullet feeder. My left hand (the bullet placement hand) is a little jacked up as a result of some nerve damage and neck/spine surgery from several years ago. I don't have good feeling in my thumb and pointer finger and my hand tends to cramp easily. I think this situation probably slows me by at least 2-300 rounds per hour.

Loaded about 250 rounds of 260 rem. Then cranked out 200 300BLK subs.
Also figured out that I need to find some cheap brass to make up my ammo for the SH-cup this year as it sounds like I'll lose a good bit of it. Not throwing away good Lapua brass. I had about 20 pieces of Win 243 brass that I necked up and uniformed to test. Hoping it works out well since I can actually find some.

So you decap on your dillon then before you dump in the wet tumbler? Trying to decide if I want to mess with wet tumbling. I do get tired of all the dust.

So you decap on your dillon then before you dump in the wet tumbler? Trying to decide if I want to mess with wet tumbling. I do get tired of all the dust.
Yes. I decap on the Dillon, then **dry tumble* for about 30 minutes to remove the lube, then wet tumble for 2 hours. The brass looks brand new after the wet (stainless) tumble.
I also tumble (wet or dry, doesn't really matter) before the decapping run on the Dillon. I don't know how well or even if the brass would run through the machine without at least a little cleaning after having been fired.
Heck, I even dry tumble my finished ammo for 15-30 minutes. Of course the prepped cases get lubed before the actual reloading and I want to remove the lube before running the ammo through my guns.
It's absolutely not necessary to go to this much trouble, but I generally put an equal value on form AND function.
RE: Dust... I don't seem to get much dust from my walnut media. I was using corn, but no matter how often I changed the dryer sheets, it seemed pretty dusty. I pop a new dryer sheet cut in 1/4's into the media after each ~10 hours of runtime. I also dump in a bit of Nu Finish car polish in at the same time. My ammo is very shiny when I'm done with it!

My problem is probably the suppressors. I have a hard time distinguishing my brass from the rusty old steel case left on the ground sometimes when I'm policing it all up, because it's so darn dirty. At one point I was even debating having a "dirty" tumbler and a clean tumbler set up. I've even swapped dryer sheets mid tumble, and I still often end up with a light coating of dust on the cases sometimes when I'm done. I saw somewhere one guy would go outside on a windy day and pour his walnut from bucket to bucket to get some of the dust to blow away, but I haven't tried that yet. Or I suppose I could not buy my walnut media at the pet store.
So what you're tellling me is if I want to bother to decap on the dillon first, I'm probably going to need to dry tumble to knock at least some of the crud off, then spray down with lube, decap on the press, then dry tumble again before I can wet tumble?

If you're really concerned about the amount of dust you get when tumbling / using media separator. Outside of a dust collector, when you tumble put a capfull or 2 of mineral spirits in the media. You don't have as long a life span as without. But there's a noticable difference, dust wise. I use 70% rubbing alcohol, as it's not as potent when you open the tumbler.
I and i'm sure almost everyone tumbles prior to decapping. That minute crap , has the potential top scratch up the dies AND by tumbling you reduce the chances of rocks in the cases.
I have one of these for tumbling / using media separator, there's always one listed on CL.

My 9mm process is similar...tumble range brass. Lube and load. Tumble again to remove lube. I just dry tumble.
My 223 process is going to be even worse...tumble range brass. Lube, decap and size. Trim. Tumble to remove lube and burrs. Load (I have a decap die on this tool head to push out any media stick in flash holes). Probably shouldn't have to tumble the loaded ammo again though.
Just tossed some 9mm brass into the tumbler. Heading out of town for work so though I would bring it with me and process it one piece at a time on my hand held press. I should be able to get through a large ziplock bag full in a week or two.
Processed some Radway 223 brass for a forum member. Trimmed it all nice then tumbled it in stainless because regular corncob was not getting it pretty enough. Everyone knows chicks dig pretty brass.
p.s. Radway 223 brass will **NOT** work for 300 Whisper/Blackout. The brass is too thick where the new 300 Whisper neck is formed. Cant get there from here without reaming the inside of the necks or turning the outside of the necks. Not worth it in any way shape or form.

Your shiny stuff is now the "bling" in my reloading room. I got it all re-sized today! Then I realized I only have less than 300 small rifle primers left...also have some heavier HPBT-match but only a few 52gr. I'm not shooting the heavier stuff anymore, anyone need 156ea 69gr HPBT Match and 59ea 80gr HPBT Match in trade for some 52gr?

No, but do you have any spare pistol primers? I do have a lot of cases of wolf small rifle primers I'm never going to be able to use I could trade you for... :) I have nothing set up for pistol yet.

Are you developing a "Mobile Reloading" Company?!
Instead of having a truck pull up in your driveway and wash your dog, perform maintenance on your vehicle etc, you'll pull up in people's driveways and reload or even just process their brass for them?
If not, you totally should. That could be popular.

You're not the first person to suggest that idea. The insurance is rather high for the potential return. $1500 for the ins to cover a reloading place, + the FFL + vehicle ins on trailer , and contents. That's a lot of brass.

Wow nice table. Did you bolt directly to/through that granite?
It's actually a laminate that just looks like granite. I glued the laminate on over 2 thicknesses of 3/4" particle board. It's pretty sturdy. I'm using off-the-rack kitchen cabinets from Home Depot as the base. The white shelving is 3 sections of bookcase from Ikea. One of these days I'll post a pic or two of my bench with all the details.
The bench is located in a second bedroom in my basement so I wanted it to look reasonably presentable in the event I ever have to use the bedroom for guests. The granite-looking laminate is an exact match for the actual granite countertop in my mini-kitchen area located in a different part of the basement. I just couldn't stomach the cost of real granite for my reloading bench!

Loaded up my first 65 rounds of 308 Win for my 700 5R, using IMR 4064 ranging from 38.0 to 42.8 -0.00/+0.02 grains under 168gr MatchKings. They are in groups of 5 rounds, incrementing in 0.40gr per group.
Took a little under 2 hours, but a good 20 minutes of that was spent getting my powder dropper to drop a 36-37.5gr charge so I could trickle each load.
The plan is to shoot the first two in each group over the chronograph. If the velocity difference is more than 15fps, I'll move to the next load. That corresponds to a standard deviation of about 10.5. That way, I can save bullets and powder for when there is obviously too large of a StdDev.
I started packing my stuff for the move to my new house.

Raised my 1050 about 3"s. Helped my back tremendously. Then decided to run a thin brace from the wall behind to the case feeder support. Wish I'd done both years ago. You may think there's no flex in your setup, but I'm betting if you brace yours, you'll be pleasantly surprised.

Loaded up some 45 acp with lower powder charge and changed the seating depth since the kaboom with my buddies glock. Will take to the range tomorrow and see how my Kimber cycles and shoots.
Dropped powder down to 5 grains Hod TG and set seating at 1.26.
Investigated what the heck happened yesterday when my LNL AP broke. Discovered that a powder spill (that's another story) had deposited some powder beneath the priming ram, causing it to sit just enough proud to lock up the primer slide, crunch. Got online to see what parts I need to order. Then repaired what I could. Since I had the press off the bench, I moved the mounting holes to the left a few inches so I'm not crammed against the wall when loading. Finished up by loading some previously primed cases until I ran out of 52gr SMKs. That involved skipping the usual sizing/decapping station, and had to laugh when muscle memory took over and I ended up de-priming one case. DOH!
THEN...I got online to see what a Dillon 650 outfit would set me back. I got a smokin' bonus at work, so there's some cash to spare!
Been tumbling/sorting bulk range 9mm brass all weekend.
Would definitely rather be loading.

Wet tumbled about 1600 pieces of .40 S&W brass. De-primed about 800 9mm. I'm trying to get every piece of brass I own ready for reloading. It's kinda like getting all my laundry and ironing done at the same time. Almost never happens, but it's nice when it does.
Still really like the stainless tumbler, but there's definitely still a place and a need for my dry tumbler as well.

My wife and I just had another conversation tonight about whether or not it would be a good idea to finish the basement. My dad has supposedly had an old Mosler bank vault door stashed in the basement of his office he said I could have. I wonder how much it would cost to haul that sucker up the rickety old stairs and drive it back from Nebraska for a nice sized vault/reloading room. It's an old sucker, grandpa had it way back when he was a small town banker. Aaaah, dreams. Sigh. Have been spending an awful lot lately on stuff for myself, including all that Dillon stuff that's on the way. I should probably focus for a few months on selling some guns instead of buying them.

Over the past week I finished loading all 9mm cases I had...stockpiling 2 30cal cans full. Then I started setting up my 223 case prep tool head with the RT1200B.
Somehow managed to break my 650's primer feed...it stopped indexing correctly. It would half rotate to the next slot, then go back to the previous slot. Noticed the cam arm was bent, so I pulled it out and straightened it but was still having problems. Called Dillon and they're sending me several new parts, which I hope resolved the issue.
Brian - what powder are you looking for?
Willing to take recommendations, but from my reading, it sounds like my best bet initially would be universal clays or w231/hp38.
I think my brother in law has a bunch of fireworks left over from 4th of July a few years ago though. I may just cut those open and use the powder there. [LOL]
My buddy bought me two pounds of longshot when he visited the western slope. Can you say #4 buck this weekend.
Maybe I'll have some luck when I roll through GJ in a few weeks on the way to Moab...
I made the final adjustments to newly received parts for the LNL AP. It's back in business! So I celebrated by loading up a bunch of .223 53gr V-Max.
Then, I had to go to work, and the good times were definitely OVER. Hours of slogging from Ft. Collins, to Greeley, to south Lakewood, back to Ft. Collins...what a crappy day to be driving the Front Range!
As an aside, the pilots on this forum (you know who you are!) will appreciate this, over 20 years ago when I knew I'd be moving to the Front Range, I bought a sectional of this area, and Front Range airport was actually spelled "Front Ranch" airport. Unbelievable.

There's some tough crimped primer pockets. For this RG mil crimp , i have to use my dillon decapper instead of the lee. The dillon punches them out, where as the lee just rises up in the die.

Jenny takes exception to that!!!
As to the decapping pins, are you sure the case was centered in the shellplate/holder? I've gotten crud in the way before which held out the case slightly off center.

These pins did just that too, they slid up in the collets but for some reason, they slid up AFTER they were already damaged. And I wasn't even having to apply an abnormal amount of force to the press, it was very normal. [Dunno]

I loaded 50 rounds of .308 yesterday. I was trying two things out:
1. Seeing if my new awesome crimp die will work for .308 also. I only crimped 25, so I've got a little pool to get a decent average with. The crimp is also really light compared to what I've seen on factory ammo.
2. Seeing if the 175 SMK 2nds I got are worth a darn. I picked them up for 22ยข per, so 1k was easy. Even if they are nothing but training rounds for the next month, that'll be worth it.
i crimped 30 rds of my .260 match ammo to see if that will help calm down some of the SD and ES I was seeing.
Was offered this reception desk, if I want to bother dismantling it and somehow getting it into my basement. I'd also probably have to add something stronger to bolt the press to, since I'm pretty sure this wouldn't hold up alone.

While I still use a ss for most things, a .1 grain of powder in either direction doesn't make much difference on a progressive, especially when you load bigger cases. Equates to about a quarter of a percent change in powder charge in a .308, for example. Variations in your brass will have more effect.
That, and the Dillon dies seat pretty darn straight.

Remind me, are you using the Thumler, or did you build one? How much can you do at once? I was under the impression it was only around 200 cases at a time... so 1900 pieces would take a while... :)

Was thinking about getting one, the low capacity was the main thing holding me back.
I've got an "Extreme Tumblers Rebel 17". It holds 4 pounds of brass per load. I've measured and 100 pieces of deprimed .223 weighs approximately 21.4 ounces... So I'm doing right at 300 pieces per load. I did 2 loads yesterday and another 4-1/2 loads today. It's sort of a pain in the rump, but seeing how shiny the brass comes out makes it worth it for me. I sat in front of the TV this evening and trimmed about 500 pieces. I wish I could stand to watch more TV because I'd probably get the trimming done quicker.
I still use my vibratory dry tumbler for removing the case lube after depriming and after final assembly of the loaded ammunition. I also sometimes use my dry tumbler on the fired brass just to get it cleaned up enough to run through the press to deprime.
I'm going to be stuck at my home office desk playing lawyer all day tomorrow so I'll probably try to tumble about 2000 pieces of .40 S&W throughout the day. I may be running simultaneous operations between the wet and dry systems because all I'm doing with the .40 is getting it clean enough to deprime. I've got the little Dillon (750?) dry tumbler and it doesn't seem to hold quite as much brass as the wet tumbler. I guess I really should look up the actual capacity in pounds now that I have an accurate scale.
FWIW... Good night all!

I got all set up with my new 650 and just finished getting the powder drop all dialed in last night. Got annoyed at the pan on my digi scale, so I bought this gadget while I was meeting up for a trade this morning at Cabelas.
Side note - does an approx .02gr variance sound about right for the dillon PM (titegroup/flake)? I let it "settle in" after my final adjustment and ran a few through just dumping out the powder, but in the end, that was approx the +/- I was seeing.

yep, using the gempro 250, aiming for 3.2gr and getting 3.18 - 3.22 with an occasional spike or two. The PM seems to be doing ok now, but I did notice the powder check bar is picking up a couple flakes, so I'll need to clean that or polish it or something. Hundredths of a grain is a level of anal that would make me quit reloading. It makes me twinge as it is.
Good to know, busted out the first 10 rounds of 9mm this afternoon, will probably test those before I commit to making a bunch. Need to decide now what gun I'm going to feel comfortable blowing up (just in case). Probably take the Beretta, since it's big and steel, and if I feel brave I can screw on the suppressor and try that out. I don't have a Chrony but I can probably borrow one. What testing do you guys go through before you feel comfortable starting mass production? Part of me is itching to start cranking that sucker so I can fill up those bins.
I did get to experience Dillon support the other day. Could not believe how hard it was to screw the dies into the toolhead, and with a couple of the powder dies, - I couldn't even get more than half way in. Thankfully I remembered the caliber conversion box and swapped out for a different toolhead and everything was smooth. Had to wait on the phone 20 mins but it only took them 3 mins to get a new one in the mail to me. Very nice. I'm betting it's not one of the new pretty colored ones though... :)

I'll do 10-15 of a few different weights. Shoot them to see which gives better performance, accuracy, operation of firearm. What works in the beretta may not be workable for say a S&W.
I have better overall performance using 4-4.1 grs of TG under 115 & 124 9mm. @ 1.14 OAL. Now that same 4.0 TG in a XD does not fully cycle 100%, 4.3 and it's GTG

100 pc boxes only but they're in stock.
No, 100 allows a backorder, the other volumes don't even allow that. I looked there and elsewhere. :(
The only thing I see in stock are 100rnd boxes of 140gn AMAX, berger 130s and the lapua 136s.
I see a new loadup in my near future.
As for what I'm doing today, re-filling 50 of cases with the last few bullets.

It takes a bit for those not familiar with dillon presses, especially the to get the motion / flow down.
For Dillon products, smooth motion and never the handle go.

The presses have mileage. But if you want to lend a hand setting up the bullet feeder, stop by.
Went looking for lighting solutions. Saw the very nice $44 solution here:

Then saw the $1.25 solution here:

Figured it was worth a couple bucks to try a DIY solution first, so I ordered the light. Now I just have to wait a month for a shipment from Hong Kong. [facepalm]

Most of us have a tendency towards using WAY too much force with these tools. They weren't designed for "smack that bastard as hard as you can". Plus, if the cap start to back itself off it is more likely to separate.
I know I'm guilty of abusing mine.

I loaded up 6 different 44 loads, my first time reloading for a revolver. It went good once I figured out how to guess on bullet seating. Before today I had never roll crimped or loaded lead, now I can cross them off my bucket list [Beer]. Now I need to get to Pawnee tomorrow and make sure everything is good on my size/crimp and that my hot 258gr loads don't cause a nuclear implosion in Thailand or something.
i also spent some time picking out casting equipment but I haven't ordered it yet. I need to find some cast iron ingot molds so I can at least melt down what lead I have so far on the propane setup. Still trying to figure out the best way to mix the different stuff for a more consistent product.
Shot my first .308 reloads yesterday. Crappy M80 pulls, mixed bag with a buncha different lots. They all shot better than the PCI blaster ammo I paid good money for and that stuff ain't cycling with my can attached.
does it work good?
The first two were a learning curve, but after that it was super easy w almost no noticeable pull marks. Probably took 10 minutes to pull those fifty. My buddy picked up those weights by the way. I have a plan, you make me buckshot, I supply lead.

I churned out 800 rounds of .223 today bringing my weekly total up to an even 1000. Used Hoser-prepped brass with CCI-400 small rifle primers, Sierra Matchking 69gr HPBT projectiles, and Winchester 748 powder. Good times.
Trimmed, chamfered, primed, hand weighed, and loaded 40 100 grain soft points at 8 different weights of imr4350 for the 243. Get to go shoot em today and see what the gun likes. :)

wet tumbled a couple hundred pieces of .308 brass. I need to get that back to square one, so I'm shooting it all, then processing it as one big chunk. I have a bunch already loaded, so I'll shoot those. I really like the feeling of knowing that every piece of brass was processed the exact same way. I'm about to pull the trigger on some LC cases that I've had my eye on for about a month now.
I also took the time to hand prep 50 .308 cases. I broke out the manual equipment for the trimming, chamfering, and deburring. Brass prep, while tedious, is good for me. It helps to take my mind off of the day-to-day nonsense.

Wow. Seems a little premature for breakage aye?
Tried drilling holes and installing base pads on my Colt 1911 mags.
The bitch is the things are stainless steel and a cobalt bit would barely cut the hole, as it was I snapped a titanium bit and a tool steel 4-40 tap...just another day in paradise, now I know why I only do these occasionally, what a PITA stainless steel is...
Got 3 of 4 holes drilled, but need a new 4-40 tap before I can tap the other holes. The "self-tapping" screws that come with the base pads sure as hell don't cut into stainless, all it did when I tried was crush the threads and make a nice smooth screw with no threads...Will have to finish it tomorrow now...then I will have 8 mags done this way.

For pulled, jacketed bullets, that have been loaded at a bad angle, and some of the copper jacketing removed, should I just trash them, or save them for someone to melt down? Same question for smashed up plated bullets.

Did the OCD prep work on 250 pieces of LC 556 brass for match ammo.
Size, clean, trim, debur, uniform pockets and flash holes, then separate by weight.
then loaded 50 rounds of test loads using 77gr SMK's.
Didn't exactly happen in the reloading room, but I test-fired a bunch of my 53gr Hornady reloads alongside some factory Federal .223 and the reloads POI is withing 1/2" of the Feds at 100yds and 200yds!
I took a guess at a mid-range load for the 53gr, and it actually worked out. It's true what they say about blind squirrels.
Cleaned and vacuumed up more stuff. Just to get it off the floor. Now I need to build some shelves to hold even more tools.
