But reading it, it says because of the rape comments made by democrats.

The article confirms the kill, but if you think democrats comments kill the bill, so be it. The only reason why any of these bills will be defeated/rescinded is because of numbers of votes. :)

The one regarding felons, domestic violence etc to turn in their weapons.

ChunkyMonkey

For those of us at work who can't stream -- What bill is up right now?

I think it will be in this order...

- Senate Bill 197: Prevents people who have committed domestic violence from possessing firearms <-- NOW
- Senate Bill 195: Requires certain applicants for concealed handgun permits to complete training classes with certified instructors
- House Bill 1229: Requires criminal background checks in the transfer of firearms
- House Bill 1228: Required gun purchasers to pay a fee, likely $10, to cover the cost of a required background check on gun purchases
- House Bill 1224: Prohibits large-capacity magazines
- Senate Bill 196: Implements the “Assault Weapons Responsibility Act (http://coloradosenate.org/home/press/assault-weapon-responsibility-act-passes-first-test-in-senate-committee)”

Are they voting today or just reading?

"Voice vote" where the senate leader basically gauges who's loudest. I expect everything to pass today even if the "NO!" is louder. (Never understood this practice.) Though some are saying it could be a counted vote. (I believe any senator can request a count.)

Then official count on Monday.

They withdrew it because they know they had 4 votes against. Better to withdraw than to get voted down publically.

To vote requires readings/debates/time wasters. I'm glad they realized it wasn't going to pass and took it down. If they did it for each and every one of these bills before the Senate you would hear no complaints from me.

aryntha

Nothing failed. Everyting will "pass" today, since it's the voice vote - unless a republican demands a count; which I don't know why that isn't happening. I suppose there's a reason for it, but I know they can demand a count.

In any case, today is just a lot of theater and grandstanding and i suppose reinforcement. Monday is when the door finally closes.

lowbeyond

To the guy in the gallery: Do me a favor, next time some idiot in favor of these bills presents a 'story' about how a woman was threatened on a daily basis by a husband/BF with a gun shout as loud as you can 'LEAVE THE SITUATION YOU FUCKING IDIOT!' No reason sane humans should have to forfeit their Constitutionally protected rights because one coward can't pick up her skirt, grab her balls (and likely her innocent children) and get the FUCK OUT OF THE SITUATION!

For anyone who thinks that was harsh and I don't have compassion... I was the only child raised by a single mother who sub-consciously sought out abusive relationships of varying degrees during my ENTIRE childhood. I speak from first-hand experience. You don't want to go down that path with me.

I think a better way to explain this for people who don't understand is that 1226 (ban on college campuses) will likely be killed. The others at this juncture still appear to be alive for an actual counted vote which won't happen until Monday. Saying that everything is passed can make it sound like it's a done deal. While it likely is the actual deed won't be done until Monday when the vote is cast and counted.

So if all these pass, I see this in my future: My boss tells me to go to Asia for my quarterly business trip. As I have (say) 10 guns in my safe, and my wife will need access to those guns to protect our family, we will need to transfer them. Since I'm fully expecting to retain ownership of those guns, I can't bona fide gift those to her. We have to go to an FFL, with all my guns, and transfer them, at 10 x ($10+new fee), say a total of $30 initially, leaving them with the FFL until the BGC is approved. Now, I'm not going to return in three days, so she will breaking the law by not returning my guns to me in 72 hours and loses her right to possess firearms. And if any of those guns use magazines with greater than 15 capacity, I can't transfer those to her, so she is less safe than she would be if she had full access to a working AR. Let's say she gets a currently non-existent extension, upon my return we do the same thing all over again, paying another $30 to the FFL for the pure purpose of retaining my Constitutionally protected rights.
