Why dont we just make the people with children pay for their children's education. Then maybe they will take it seriously and actually pay attention and learn something. because an educated society is a stronger society. without societal investment in the education of the community's youth we would be afganisthan living in the stone ages.

You had the benifits of a better education because society ponied up for the bill. if they arent educated they will be stealing your car. there will always be a certain percentage of the population that will flunnk out of school . the majority that do not are worth paying for.

Considering how much money this country spends on education we are way down the list as far as educated countries are concerned. School is seen by the majority of freeloaders as free child care and they dont care whether their brats learn anything or not. Make them pay something for it and maybe they would care a little more.

I never went to public school, me and my sister both attended private school. And if my single mother who never made more than 12 dollars an hour can work her ass off to help us go to school then the lazy ass parents out there can do the same. I worked full time through high school and college to help pay for my schooling, and am still paying off college. It should be part of the decision when you have kids, can I afford to educate them. Its not like there is a shortage of people on this planet, maybe just wanted children is not enough reason to have them.

If the results of Public School education were better than they are now i would support it. However when the PS system has become nothing more than a place to promote an Agenda of Diversity and PC'ness. IF it fits the Teachers Union's train of thought then no. Suspending a child (elementary school age) because they say BANG, or have a pop tart that "Looks Like a gun" brings the school to a standstill, with mass e-mails sent explaining the offense, offering counseling for those affected, we have gone way off the path of education.

Rockhound- I don't see us getting our money's worth right now from the public school system. They don't spend the money wisely at all, the system is screwed up and we're churning out lower preforming students every year. Not every school, but I have little faith in the PS system and when/if I have kids, they will go private for sure.

i would have never found my love of military history . its pretty safe to say i might not be working on opening a museum but instead digging a ditch or serving time behind bars . it was free church and school that got me through childhood and made me the man i am today . some parents just need a hand from the village to raise their child . that does not make them bad or lazy people, just human

Sorry, but spending billions to get a 1 in 1000 odds is never ok. Thats kind of like their if it saves one child argument. There are other things the money could be used for other than crappy schools or forein aid.

Every parent should have to have some skin in the game. Even ifit is only 50 a month. If the parent cant afford it then the cost will be based on grades. At least then if i am forced to pay for the freeloaders they will at least be learning something. That and get rid of tenure and the crappy burned out teachers who could care less about students.

Are they getting an education or are they just passing through the system? We didn't have computers or the Internet when I was in grade school and the country wasn't throwing the kind of money at it that they have been. We actually had to crack a book and read. So many kids coming out of public schools can't seem to manage to teach themselves in their future years. Want to learn how to do something that wasn't covered in school? RTFM.

if you leave the general population illiterate what happens if there is a draft ? you gonna start printing tank manuals in picture form only ? would it then be the burden of the military to teach people simple math a writing/reading skills ?

I really don't have a problem with the idea of public schools, it's one of the few things I think the government should provide, and I'm ok with paying taxes for them. What I do not like is how every year schools keep asking for more money and turning out graduates who are progressively worse as a group each year. Some of it is the schools, and some of it is the parents. But we are not heading in a good direction with public schools right now in education quality, let alone how they have become indoctrination centers for political party dogma.

i do think the basic education should be free and if you dont want the gov teaching your children the you can pay for it . again if you dont have a public education system how do you propose a successful military ? or do you expect only those that can afford education serve ?

Our education system is Colorado has focused on teaching kids to be prepared to take a yearly test called CSAP. Each school and district is scored on the results of these test for funding and resources. By having this approach students aren't getting a true education they're only being taught what they'll be tested for. The end result of this teaching approach ends up turning out graduates that have a pretty crappy education.
Back when I was a kid there was no mainstreaming like now, we sent kids that had mental issue's to state schools, we had special Ed kids that were taught the basics to function as adults and then everyone else. Now the protocol is to put all kids in the same general Ed classes, by doing so it takes away from the students that can be educated and that have a future. My wife is a High School teacher and the crap she tells me just disgust me, it’s ridiculous what is wasted on kids that don’t have the capacity to learn beyond what a third grader is taught. From the socialist regime at the School District level to the parents of the kids that should be in state schools or special ED the system is broke.
People that are educated and fiscally responsible reproduce within their means and take responsibility for their offspring. The burden on our education system and society stems from the undereducated which general includes the fiscally irresponsible population. To go pretty far to the right there should be a aptitude/IQ test that is given to all before they reach sexual maturity, if you fail you get clipped and the gene pool ends there.
I have 2 kids in High School both are in advanced classes call STEM and will go on to college for Engineering. I’m not counting on scholarships (I’m in the wrong demographic) and fully prepared to pay tuition.

It's not a private school, it's a homeschool set up. What it is, is basically public school, at your home for only your kids. The lessons are all planned, they send you a computer, and all the books that the teachers have. You teach your child at your child's pace. After the first couple years of doing it with our oldest, we sent her to public school so the wife and I could both work. She was well beyond what they were doing. Connections academy has the basic same curriculum as public school, but more advanced. However the way it comes across to the children, they learn it better, and get ahead as we saw. We ended up taking our daughter out of the school system since they taught less, and the wife went back to being her teacher. Best move we made as far as their learning goes. I have two other daughters that are with their mother most of the time that are still in public school.... The difference is ridiculous, absolutely horrible. We won't do anything other than Connections Academy.
