tsa siezed all the forks and butter knives as weapons.....would not let her put them in her checked luggage and would not let her fill out a claim form or whatever to have them send them too her.....

Forks and butter knives from a vintage silverware set?! TSA must have believed she was going to arm the entire plane or something. STOOPID!

So they took them and would not give them back? That's just a little illegal... They have to give you the option to keep your property one way or another.

they do? from what Cofi describes, these were seized as weapons, not an improper bottle of shampoo. I hate the TSA as much as anyone but if you tried to take a glock through the detector i'd bet you're not getting it back

On the one hand, I don't understand why your wife thought she was going to be able to transport them by hand and didn't just use FEDEX to send them home when even first class still gets plastic cutlery (on those few flights that still serve hot meals). On the other hand, TSA should have given her the option to get them back and NOT go through the security line. It would have been worth the cost of changing her ticket so she had the time to ship them home. I'd have asked to talk to a manager and get names and employee numbers so she could file a report with the TSA IG on what essentially was theft of antique heirlooms.
